Coming from a biased F80, I appreciate your honesty. I tell some of my friends the same thing, if you want to make a little bit of power with a good drivetrain for the street/straightline get the M340, but if F8x generation cars are your dream, nothing better than that F80/F82/F87 sauce!

To each there own. I personally drive my 700 whp single turbo M340i daily to work. I live in Chicago where it snows all winter and I still get to drive my car. Nothing against the F80 but it’s not a car I could use everyday

Had a F82 for 7 years and had to let it go. It's not a street car for Chicago. LSD potholes were brutal but funny. Feel bad for the person who bought it lol.

Bro I fucking love the wing i can’t wait till i get a m3 and do the same style wing. Most people hate it but i’ve always been a fan ever since i saw the movie cars lol so fuck what other people say and keep rocking the wing brother!

I love the look of the F8X platform, starting to get a bit dated but will always look good. The interior and exterior styling is totally awesome. I love my F83, only thing that could be better is handling is not as good as expected. The back roads of NC are amazing. Enjoy your ride and keep up the content.

I came from a M135 to F30 340i then had a choice of a M340 or F80, I test drove them both mutiple times and ended up with the F80, the M340 as good as it was, just didnt have the heart and soul of the F80, hands down the M340 is a better daily, but it just doesnt have that wow factor of the true M car ... I am also biased as it was also my Dream car though. Just like you

I think the problem is all of us are trying to compare 2 totally different cars because they happen to be comparable in 2 of the only ways car people care about when comparing cars. Price and Horse Power. We’re all finding out they’re really different in a lot of ways too.

Why do you think the M340 is a better daily? Because the ZF is more tame at lower speeds and the power distribution is more linear? The F8x is a better car overall..its a true M..you can belt it.. it destroys corners..therefore the M car is the better daily. I daily the F8x..its meant to be a daily. I've driven both the M340i and the F80 M3, they are not the same experience. The F80 M3 I drove was a manual, M340i's are not available with a manual transmission. The M340i was a sporty driving experience, but was less emotional, less involved (because of the lack of a manual transmission), less exciting (no burbles and pops from the exhaust, etc.) and less aggressive looking (no hood bulge, wide fenders, etc.). The M340i did have a better idrive display, maps, etc., but the idrive units in the F80's can be upgraded and modified. If you test drove both vehicles and money was not an issue, I think that most would pick the F80 M3.

Coming from a biased m340i, I have always been envious of how much more aggressive f80s look. Definitely if my circumstances were different and I had another car to daily I would of definitely chose the m3 over my m340i. M3 has always been my dream car as a kid so I feel you on that one lol, buying the lite version did crush my soul a bit, but nonetheless I enjoy the updated technology, and comparable power from this lite version, and the reliability it comes with.

I spent a week around my friend hunter and his m340i and I have to say it’s a wonderful car. You got a good car regardless!

I was in the same boat, but went the g20 route. You make very valid and correct points. If i was working from home, I’d have bought the f80 in a heartbeat. The commute forced me to make the choice. G20 is still a great chassis, and as for driving feel it is significantly closer to what an M car is as an M lite vs its predecessors. But still pales in comparison. Chasis rigidity of g20 is almost there 37,000 nm/deg but not quite, as f80 is at 40,000 nm/deg. Still significantly better than 27,000nm/deg of the f30. You can really feel the difference across all three (after upgrading suspension on the m lites too). Anyone who says an f30 340i is better, they’re simply uninformed straight line warriors. I’d say if you don’t have to daily the car, f8x all the way. However the creature comforts and daily drivability of the G20 makes it a great option for those that need to drive it daily, while still feeling pretty solid in corners. An f30 is simply not a part of that equation, these tiktok 340i fan girls need to grow

The f30 340i ppl can get annoying. It’s a great car still idk why they feel the need to be so freaking hateful about M cars 😂 I’ve got friends with f30 340i’s that are amazing people so I try not to hate on them if I can help it 😂

I have the M340 , but I also want by its side a F82M4 . Il be set for life on those Platforms

I test drove an F80. It was very comfortable and you could easily daily it no problem. I'll be buying one soon, it'll be my last ICE car before we're forced to go electric.

G20 interior > F80 G20 xdrive > F80 G20 daily > F80 G20 power capabilities Easy choice

F80 interior materials are a tier above, especially the merino leather and carbon trim

Before I bought my F80 M3 I had a 335is, it had more torque than the E90 M3 and would smoke it all day everyday but deep down I really really really wanted an M so I can definitely empathize and relate with the M340 guys and their deep seeded badge envy 😢

The F8X chassis will be timeless. Not sure what the obsession is with straight line dig times. If u want that, get an ass looking Tesla. I have a new x3m also and it would smoke the f80 in a dig. Also have a x3m40i with a b58 and it’s cute…for my wife. F80 all day. Don’t even get me started on the g80. But I get it.

i bought a m340 around October last year. for me in my price range it came down to my 21 m340 and the new m2 (both were around the same price) I went for the used one at 8k miles because i really didn't like the newest interior with the chicken nugget gear selector. But being in Colorado and even though i have a Tacoma the BMW has been in the snow several times and ive taken it up to the mountains to snowboard a few times as well. I also have a dog that comes with me in the car frequently so a two door makes that much harder shes a 70lb lab. So ultimately the m340 ticked a lot of boxes for me but hopefuly one day i can upgrade to one of the newer m3's with the xdrive once i get some cash burning a hole in my pocket again! 🤣 but the m340 is great i also have done some autocrossing in my 13 wrx and i have a few tracks relatively close to me and some great canyon drives as well, so i will get to enjoy having something with some more power than the wrx

the g20 doesnt have the hips of an M3. if it had the wider rear quarter panels like on an m3 I would prefer it over an f80 but it doesnt

The M340i: better interior, xDrive, cheap to modify, newer, comfortable, reliable. The F80: a real M car, better exterior, carbon-ceramic brakes, better resale value, track-oriented, weighs less, handles better.

Both cars are great to each its own

After being around one the past 4 days I have to say the m340i doesn’t disappoint at all.

You need a wider wing to fill the width of the car. Its looks kinda dinky on that car tbh.

I had $60k to spend and my options were a 10k mile M340i Xdrive and a 20k mile F80 M3. I got the M3, no brainer lol. Why would I have Outback steak when I can have fillet mignon 😂. Also 5yrs from now the M340 will be worth nothing, yes it has a M but realistically it’s a pedestrian 3 series with Marketing 😂

Seems like marking (badge recognition) is the only reason to buy an old M3. If you are after performance, then you get the best car available, period. In a daily scenario (non track) that would be the M340.

@@AlexKazakovaxkazakov m340 does not have better performance. its 0-60 faster from xdrive but thats all. its heavier and has less HP. an f80 can go nearly 180mph and a 340i can go like 155 without limiter. the m340i is cheap to build up to 5-600 but after that you are better off with an s55.

I love both cars, I have to say though online all I see is b58 owners spewing absolute nonsense I don't think any of them realize mod for mod on stock turbos the s55 is much faster even though straight line speed is also not my main reason for buying it.

Brother, before you even commented on the wing that was the very first thing I saw and the words that came out of my mouth were “oh my god” and my mind decided that I could not take what you say seriously, that’s your car, enjoy, but those wings belong in a gt3 RS, not an M3.

I have an M340i currently on lease that's due to go back in July. I'm planning to get an F82 M4 to replace it. I'm hoping and expecting it to feel quicker and raw! They're totally different cars! My goal is to be an owner of a true M car!

stock for stock no it doenst lmao. 380hp vs 450hp (M cars are underrated) and the f80 is 200lb+ lighter than the m340i xdrive mild hybrid. the top speed of m340i without limiter is 155 and the f80 is 174. the f80 is faster period. the m340i is quicker and barely at that

I never said they are I’m saying M cars are miles ahead of non m cars FOR WHAT THEY ARE INTENDED TO DO if the B58 was so much better it would’ve been in an M car. Plus saying the s55 is unreliable is crazy, less reliable than a b58 maybe idk. The b58 oil pump goes out more than a crankhub on the s55 and it cost more to fix than a crankhub. Saying a non M car is better than an M car is blasphemy. Do yourself a favor and compare the 2 while they’re on a lift one is a race car and the other is a commuter it’s simple, hardly anyone is out here clapping out an s55 just to get a fast straight line car. It’s a waste of money to buy an M car and make it straight like fast.
