Nothing beats the sound of a radial engine, music to my ears
Oh my gosh the Pratt and Whitney has such a beautiful growl to it, which for me makes this plane one of the most powerful planes back then, hey let's go Whistling Deaths
No matter what view you have of each aircraft from WW2, each one played a significant role in the war and helped secure our freedoms we all enjoy today. The Corsair was a engineering millstone during the war for sure and will be remembered for generations to come.
Ferocious! That initial blast from the Pratt and Whitney R 2800 Double Wasp engine...raw whirling radial sound never to be duplicated...what a flying machine! Wow!
The f4u is the best looking fighter the USA ever made

Nice clean start! Sounds good. Now, for all those that thought that "lumpy idle" sounded familiar, it is. Harley Davidson v-twin engines are built around the same tech as this 18 cylinder rotary engine...with 16 less cylinders.

Pure beauty and sweet music!
The Merlins do have that elegant snarl, however, these big radials simply exude power in a way they inline engines cannot match.

@Dustin Montgomery the drag is made up with the corsair being made to be more aerodynamic at higher speeds and makes less drag then for example a hellcat

I always thought that planes moved with the throttle from their own props when on land. I didn't know that the wheels actually have traction
@Cult1022

sorry, can't follow... they have differential braking, thats all they got on the wheels. they move under thrust, and never backwards.
why red bull on the plane ???
Why do you guys vid these in high-speed? It doesn't look right (spinning propeller).

I went to the airport to rent a plane and fly, and I did not know that this Corsair was to be arrive with a B-25 Mitchell at Szeged. It was a surprise to me. I was walking on the airfield toward this Corsair, beacause I had never seen a Corsair before. As I arrived, I was told to stand aside, because it was going to start up the engine immediately. I just took my cellphone out of my pocket and started recording this video. I did not think about the settings, did not have the time for that, and I did not have any other device. Sorry. :-) I did not plan to upload this to youtube, but I'm happy that I did it, and 123 thousand people have seen it and more than 900 liked it despite this imperfectness. :-)
Apparently these are really hard to start with out flooding or setting on fire Because the engine is upsidedown or something.

Poor thing let her fly,
War Thunder brought me here.
1) is that an inertia starter? 2) did it take that long to start an engine during the war, or is that old age? 3) did Marines ever fold the wings of their land based planes?
Truth be told. I always felt like that engine was on the verge of breaking...the startup and idle sound atrocious. Always about to throw a rod or piston.

Beautiful airplane, but get that f***** red bull logo off of it. Dont care if its theirs.
They MUST DO THE RED BULL PAINT FOR THE ADVERTISEMENT TAX WRITE OFF. BUSINESS! 101. These planes are investments or money holders at 2 to 4 million they cost roughly 1200hr to fly just for fuel they only make money by appreciating in value or tax write off.
