Great comparison! I did like the #4, especially as a solid budget option. I would be very interested in a comparison between the Rodelink Lav vs the Rode Lavalier Go (because it comes in white, as well & is a touch cheaper), especially now that Rode has released the Wireless Go II.

This was so much fun. I was trying to find information comparing the Zoom F2 lav with the Tascam DR-10l lav. Comparing these two with the higher end lavs really helped. I'm a beginner. I had heard about Countryman and Sennheiser, but seeing them all compared helped me put these mics in perspective. Then, to find out that the Rode Wireless Lav compared favorably with the higher priced lavs....well. Your "Videographer's Guide To The Zoom F2" was so interesting. I liked your banter. It brought me here.

This was the video I was looking for. Thank you for doing this review. I was thinking in the end you'd more than likely pick the DPA 4061. I was testing the Zoom F2-BT vs the F3 (with the RODE VXLR Pro XLR to 3.5mm voltage adapter), and even though the F3 came in louder, it picked up more background noise than I was desiring. Although I like the RODELink Lav, for some reason compared to the ZOOM LMF-2, I liked how my recordings were coming through with the LMF-2 better. But it still sounds a bit off. So I was thinking that getting a better Lav mic would solve the issue. Of course I was looking at the DPA 4061 and now realize after watching your vid, that's what I'm going to purchase. Even with my more baritone sounding voice that I have, I still think the DPA 4061 would be the better choice. I'm hoping for a richer sounding Lav mic and hope this will work for my needs. Again, thank you for doing this video! By the way where is that link for the Free Master Bus Compression preset. I tried to click the link and it's not available anymore. Would like to try it. Let me know if you can send that to me, again, thanks. 🙂

Best Lav video I've seen. You nailed this. I use the Sanken and I've always thought it was lacking in the low ends and this confirms it from someone who knows what their talking about. I've actually just eyeing that 4061.... just don't know if brides will notice the $425 difference lol.

Thanks, Nate! Yeah that 4061 is a beast, but I hear you, I’m not thinking the couple will notice the difference. I do believe that it would help pop any vocal out of the mix naturally tho 🙌🏽

The DPA 4061 was my favorite. Looks like you get what you pay for. Number 2 through number 7 were not good at all, except number 4. Glad to see that number 4 is reasonably priced at 99 bucks too. Great video and comparison!

  • @wangmediaweddings

Great video, confirms my experience. I use a mix of DPA4060, Sanken Cos11 and Countryman B6. The B6 is used the most for the bride since it is so tiny and I have it in beige. I use the Sanken on the officiant and the groom because I think it cuts through clothes very well. The DPA sounds the best but more neutral and is bigger than the Cos11. Use this on the singer if there is a performance during ceremony. I have the old cable for the DPAs so that is also why I prefer the Cos11 since the have cables that are easier to handle. If you take sound serious you should invest in quality lavaliers, reduces the time spent on EQ in post. And still a fraction of the cost of a new lens. Even if the couple don't know the difference they can experience that the sound is really good.

Do you have any video showing what your typical mic setup and signal chain is as in what audio gear you use? . Ive recently sold my H5 looking for something else.. I have a couple Rodelink Wireless lavs but I now need another recorder. I've been wondering if I could get by with two f2's or maybe one f3. I'm partial to more channels on a recorder but my pocket may not bee so willing. Great content so far. Thanks

I think F2 mic got smashed here because for some reason it is so much louder by comparison and ears hurts when you go from other mics. Normalize option is not the best way get them the same percieved volume. For me F2 mic was better than many just not set right. Btw I don't have any of these mic but I would like to see what post processing could do to them, espescially the F2 kit mic.

Great like always! I just got a Zoom F2 bt and tested it with a Sennheiser MKE2 and and a Sennheiser ME2 . The issue I have is that the sensitivity on these mics seems to be so low that I can not see any levels using the control app. In addition I don‘t get any usable output on the line out so I can not use it together with a Rode wireless go for sendung a signal to my camera. In FCPX I have to use 3 gain layers to get the signal to a normal level. Is that normal or do I have a faulty unit? Thank you for your reply and geatings from Austria!

In the Zoom F2 recorder, the voltage that is applied to the microphone is 2.5 volts. In your test, some microphones have 7.5 volts and even +48 volts. Please tell me, did you connect only directly, directly to the recorder?

Hello. Thank you for the video. very clear. I use zoom f2 and enjoy working with it. but I want to buy a more expensive microphone. but the problem is that the power supply of the zoom f2 microphone is 2.5V. many microphones from reviews are 5V, sanken cos 11d from 3 to 10V. I had another question, when using the DPA 4061 what type of end connector do you have for the 4061 and what type of 3.5mm adapter did you use? I'm asking because I just purchased the DPA 4061 for $225 on eBay and it already comes with a LEMO 3 Pin connector. I can get a LEMO 3 Pin to 3.5mm male adapter, so I can plug it into the F2-BT unit. But I just spoke to a rep at DPA who told me that you need to have 48V enabled using these high end mics. Is that true? If it is, was there another type of 48V adapter box that used? If not let me know that too. Thank you.

Maybe he said phantom power, but meant “lavaliere phantom power” (which is around 5V ?), not 12-48V. Better/expensive wireless transmitters has a more professional 5V. Many Zooms don’t, maybe 2-3V. (OR you use XLR 48V to 3,5mm 5V adapter!) Another post said 2,5V for the Zoom F2.
