I had this same problem -gas mileage was down to 13.1 average and complete loss of power and erratic idle -I found this video and bought the part and bam! just on my first test drive went up to close to 19 mpg with combination of city and highway driving -incredible that that part won't even throw a code disconnecting the entire part , Long story short is the problem is fixed -thank you !!!

Well best of luck. I had a similar problem on my chev . After I remote started it it would not come out of remote run but i could drive it as the key was on. Of all things it was the brake light relay dirty contacts. I know yours isn't this but you have to keep an open mind Good luck Steve.

Still hunting for a fix for my intermittent rough idle/stalling when stopping on my old 93 F150. 285k miles I'm sure doesn't help. I started with the EGR position sensor and gasket, then the valve itself, tested the TPS, and then replaced the IAC valve...still gives me issues. They added a lot more electronics and sensors in 7 years so all I can offer is a hand shake and wish you good luck! Off to part 2 to see if your fix and maybe spark some ideas.

Chaos Garage if your rough idle and stalling when coming to a stop is here and there but when you step on the gas it goes away its your vct solenoids. Changed mine and problem went away.

Did a quick search, looks like you are not alonFrom what little reading I did, sounds like it may have something to do with the throttle body and/or MAF or there is a purge valve of some type that sticks open or closed.

Is the throttle body dirty or egr or tubes plugged . Some fords have throttle body issues . vvt solenoid or are the cam phasers making noise . First things that come to my mind , Be interesting to see what it is

This is clean as can be checked it all . Unless you have a history of the fault you may never find it. Time for the parts cannon :)

First thing I checked :)

My 04 Chevy Silverado would want to stall only when stopping and it turned out to be the TPS. (Throttle position Sensor) Never threw any codes or anything it would just fall on its face when stopping and then regain the idle rpm and if not it would die. IT would start and run fine at all speeds thought. I replaced the TPS and it was fixed and never did it again. But yet again the TPS went out a year later and I'm having to replace it again. hey Steve my 2000 f150 with a 5.4 won't do anything just put a new battery in it when I put the key in and turn the switch the lights come on but it does nothing it don't even click.......now I can hear the fuel pump kick on . the windows headlights radio horn all work but like the starter don't make any sound

That could be so many items wiley ? Looks like your going to be using a test light and or millimeter to verify your ignition switch is sending voltage to your starter relay to turn it on or you may have a bad starter . Not starting verify its getting voltage and connections are good .

Steve I’m a little late but this happened on my 05 f150 and after I had a tune put on it this problem stopped. It had something going on with the ECM

Good question , yes when the engine stalls the oil light turns on. Yes the purge valve fixed it , not one stall since.

Similar problem solved...had 2007 f150 doing same thing. Same symptoms exactly. No codes. While replacing AC compressor, I realized wire harness to crank sensor passed by AC high side lines and over time developed a small short. In short...unplug wire harness from across compressor and crank sensor (same harness/ 2 leads) then pull slack up to inspect. If this happened to yours the damage should be easy to spot. Spliced my short. No more problems.

This is an odd one but I bet someone has had this experience with millions being built.

I have the same issue. I changed the throttle body positioner sensor it helped some then I thinking it the iac idler control sensor sometimes it gets carbon up sometimes u can clean it with carberster cleaner an cue tip or just buy another one for 40.00 at advance auto parts I bought a new one. Fixed it

It's best you match your vehicle specs to the RA site to get the right part.

Stalling at stops & no check engine light I would guess a sticking IAC, though I would suspect that it would happen a lot more frequently. Was your fuel level about the same every time this happened?

Nope not on a diesel.

Never encountered this problem Steve but I have some tips for you. Hook up your scope and look at crank and cam sensors, then monitor charging voltage at alternator and at battery. If you can't find anything there monitor a 5 Volt reference circuit and see if you loose the 5 volt reference, if you do that can indicate a power or ground problem to the way. Also you could look up a topology schematic of the network and look for a common splice for all the modules and see if the network is acting up. Also you could monitor the throttle body controls while this happens also. This is how I would attack the problem. Sorry I can't give any pattern failures on these.

Hey Steve I’m having issues with my 09 F150 it runs perfectly fine for 15min and then shuts off and shows no codes nothing. It will crank but won’t start, then after 20min or so it will turn back on for a while then soon turn off again. Do you think the solution may be the part 2 Video you made?

I would say not in your case. You definatey need to look at the live data from a scan tool to see what the fault is . A good mechanic should be able to find it .

Both my explorer does it and my f150. Only when turning left. Fuel tanks full it does the same thing.

I'd suspect a wiring harness being moved only on LH turns . Time for a close look at what rubbing where .

I’ve had that problem and it’s been in the fuse block on the passenger footwell. Sometimes water damage other times has been connection issues from the factory. Hard to say without seeing it, but I’ve done lots of those fuse blocks. Good luck Steve!

Interesting and it would stick once in a while and not set a CEL - now that would be hard to diagnose

I have a 2005 when you start it, careful you don't accidentally turn the key back after starting. It only takes like a 1/16 or 1/8 inch back to stop the engine. Road vibration 😎

I seen a lot of problems with the IACS getting stuck on fords and when you restart it reinitializes comes unstuck and it runs fine a gain for a while. I never done one on anything that new though. Normally a removal and some good cleaning with some brake clean and some nylon brushes to get rid of the carbon will fix the issue, but if it has done it since it was a few days old I can't imagine it had carbon built up then. Maybe a bad IAC. Hard to confirm though.

Tom this is a drive by wire and I'm thinking no IAC . The truck has about 55,000 miles on it. It will be the parts cannon real soon. I'm giving this truck to my daughter and getting a new one soon and I don't want this to happen to her while driving it.

I have intermittent issue on my 2014 dart. Except mine kills the controls and the engine is still running. Dealer will not throw parts at if no code. In my case they can't swap part unless engineer at manufactuer oks it . This is what we get for letting electronic run our life. A slight voltage drop and well we now have computer issue. I hope u get it figured out. Thanks

Ive got it happening right now on my 2010 f150 5.4. I already went through cam phasers and a factory rebuilt Ford 5.4. The current engine is still under warranty as I have about 20k on it and it was a 36,000 warranty.

Ben the dealer couldn't find anything when it was under warranty . No codes or faults or common complaints so I was told . After I replaced the purge valve it's never stalled since. There's lots of possibilities but for the low cost of something I could fix myself, it turned out to be the right fix for me.

If it just stalls without any codes present and starts right up easily thats exactly what mine did. I changed out the purge valve and its been over a year now without one stall. Russ its a $50 part so its worth a try and so easy to replace yourself. Make sure your throttle body is clean as well as that could cause that as well as many other things but you have to start somewhere and try something.

What about TCC solenoid. Stalling in drive but run fine in park and N

I have seen a few issues with trucks like yours but since the problem has been there since new it rules out most of them. What i have seen the most of is electronic throttle body problems. They can't react fast enough to engine speed. There could be a reflash for the problem but i believe you just had that done. Problem is if you change a part it could take months to know if the part corrected the problem.

My 2015 Ford F150- 5 litre is also stalling at stop lights. It started this beginning of August and is slowly getting worse. The dealership doesn’t know; there was no yellow engine light on( back in the end of September) but they said a code was showing that the thermostate was faulty; it was changed but problem still there. Just last week( Saturday October 14/23), the engine light came on; stayed on for 2 days then went off. Now it is Weekend of October 21,22, and no engine light on, but still stalling or trying to stall at intersections.

This might be the VCT/VVT. I replaced the drivers side but didn’t do the passenger. Stopped for a few years but I think it’s time to do passenger since it’s starting again - 2016 F150 5.0

Have a 92 F-150 with the 302 V8, mine stalls shifting into and out of gears as well as at most stops. Recommend the purge valve for this?

Brian my stalling was very specific and a pattern part failure. In your case its as soon as you let off the throttle and consistent. Id be looking at the throttle body , make sure its clean would be my first to do. Its fixable but a good tech would save you more on a diagnosis than throwing parts at it. Cheers

@@brianmarkley8976 Yes it's either on or off electrically letting fuel vapors flow or not but like so many faulty ones that got stuck and got stuck occasionally it's tough to test definitely as good or bad.

Mine is a purge valve issue plus makes noise when dies like a hum

After a bit of googling I was surprised to find that this is a fairly common problem. Drivers usually mentioned that this happened when they were slowing down to make a left hand turn. A number of people suggested that changing the purge valve seemed to fix the problem. Others seemed to have a problem in the fuse block located in the passenger footwell although those seemed to be less related to the slowing down/left turn issue. It's probably worth trying to manipulate the fuse block to see if you could cause the issue to show up. At least one person seemed to think the problem was fixed by changing a valve in the gas line. I'm very interested to hear what they thought was the problem. Have you tried any diagnostics tests yet?

Interesting you mention that and I googled the same but I do have 3 friends that work at Ford and they have suggested I try something and in the next vid I will . You can run out of money guessing but a logical guess seems reasonable. I like to test and prove a fault than just guessing or throwing the parts cannon at it. Lets see real soon I have to do something so lets start with a small parts cannon first :)

Evaporative Purge Valve on the drivers side of the engine . Takes about 10 minutes but buy the part at your dealer it's much better than aftermarket. Hope it works . 👍

At some point I had to do something and the purge valve was an easy swap and $75 so I started with that and it fixed it .

My 09 King Ranch with the 5.4 3v did this exact same thing earlier this evening. Just as I was easing into a parking space it began sputtering as if it were going to stall. Upon starting the truck an hour later the sputtering return within seconds of letting the engine idle. It smoothened out some once I gently pressed the accelerator. The check engine light was on however I was able to make it back home without incident.

To further add to this now that I think about it, A few days ago I took my truck in to transmission shop to check fluids and to schedule me a service since i’m approaching 150k. Tech informed me that everything transmission wise was fine however stated that cylinder 1 and 6 each had a misfire. He further added that had the scan tool not indicated such he wouldn’t of known otherwise. Prior to this I had the fuse 27 relocation kit installed as the fuse appeared to be slight burnt (fuel pump). It wasn’t totally melted however it was enough for me not to chance it. I’ve been chasing a P0442 small evap leak code for the past 8 months but the ford techs said it’s probably just fuel inlet and it to keep clean using the funnel. As of a week ago for the first time I received “check fuel inlet” message on the dash while driving on the interstate. Apologies for the long winded comments and questions. I’m open to suggestions…thank you for sharing these videos, Ill scan the truck and see what codes I get other than p0442… Love my truck as it is paid for however seems like it’s one thing after then next. VCT’s, faulty O2 sensor pcm updates, water entry from several places, Rust in the rockers, bulkhead connector, multiple ac issues, abs module, hub assembly…lol Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 🛻

This happening to my 2007 f150. Coming to a stop the whole truck kinda vibrates/ shakes and stalls right out. If I feel the vibration in time and hit the gas it comes right outta it. Also comes outta it when I switch from D = drive to park or neutral. It dosent happen everytime but it's happing more frequently than I like. No dash lights or codes. Has plenty of oil. What is this?

Hi Rebecca Your symptoms are totally different from mine . I would try a simple fix and clean the throttle body. A dirty throttle body can cause exactly what you're experiencing , worth a try and low cost , you can easily do this yourself.

I had to have a brand new 5.4 dropped in my 06 F150 about 2 years ago (Came with 5 year warranty) Today I ran several errands and after I cranked it up for the 10th time I thought the startup felt weird, felt weak. Not like a dead battery cause I'd been driving all day, like high compression, weak starter? gauges all good. I went to my cousins house and just like you said I slowed down to turn left into his driveway and truck just died, all dash lights came on. Steering gone, braking super hard, stopped about 2 feet from a telephone pole. Cranked right back up and when Ieft his place I was super nervous, what happens when I'm taking a curve at 50mph, or doing 70 on the interstate? I'm fixing to watch your part 2, trying to work this out. This truck has been a super pain in the @$$ the whole 5 years I've had it!!! With a new engine even!

Your going to need a good tech to see if their are any ford specific stored codes . I'm thinking something electrical is either loose of rubbing on something wigging out the electrical . All fixable bud.

1975 is pre computers or fuel injection so it sounds like hard braking is drawing a lot of engine vacuum. I'd be checking everything on your carb that is vaccum operated or hose leaks . Just a spray bottle with water on a vaccum leak will show by a rpm drop. Just a guess from a long ways away. Cheers.

you have a bad brake booster. it runs on vacuum when you hard brake the diaphram in the booster has a small crack hard brake instant vacuum leak stalls the engine. also it could be master cylinder leaking into the booster has same effect. the way to tell is when you unbolt the cylinder the back of it where the piston is will be wet. usually it also shows wet on the outside of the booster just around the cylinder mount.

The dealer can only read codes if any and try common fixes they have tried. Every fault is fixable but it can get frustrating and expensive. I good shop with experience with your engine can fix it . I just bought a new 2021 Silverado Z71 RST . Awesome truck so far.

Tammy their are many reasons for a stall but I would definitely check for any codes first , mine showed no codes so I had to try some things that could cause a stall. The possibilities are lack of fuel or lack of air or lack of ignition. I'd try the air next and make sure the throttle body is clean as a real dirty throttle body can restrict minimum air .

@SteveRobReviews well, I've found the problem on mine. The main wiring plug that goes to fuel pump and the tail lights was the problem. Even though it looked clean and fit tight, it wasn't. Cleaned it up and put some wire dope in the plug and solved the problem.

One other thing that I thought of was an idle control valve that might be sticking. I remember you saying your idle was flaring up in a previous video on your F-150 when you changed the battery. Personally, I don't see how changing the battery would cause an issue. I believe it was the MAF all along and it was just coincident that it happened three days after you changed the battery. Hopefully Steve, the part(s) won't be too expensive in trying it out. And I guess it's going to take months to know for sure if the issue is fixed :)

i have a 2000 with a 5.4 that just started doing it with the previous owner bout 3 weeks ago he thought it was the timing chain so he was just gonna crush it I walked up an bought it I have not heard it run yet because he had the pulleys "etc. already taken off because he planned to fix it but didn't have the money so he told me it stalls when stopped it don't have any check engine light on an it don't shake or ping or knock ........im stumped

First thing I'd check is fuel pressure at the engine. Egr flow at idle will stall it too. Dirty throttle body , theres a start.

Lock up torque converter holding too long, stalling the engine.

That just might be right. Worked at Jeep oh 24 years ago . Had a few Jeeps that would stall when the customer slowed down to a stop. Maybe that explains it.

That seems logical but to me I am not feeling any forward push - I have never experienced that before so i don't know if I would feel anything . That's interesting and your the first to mention it.

I have a ford F150 1989 run good but it stop when you hit the brakes. the probably start three years ago had people look at it they not fixing the problem not going put out know more money so it being sitting . When it stop some time it want start back until it sit for a little while, some day it don't want to start but when it do run good but can't drive it keep stop when you hit the brakes.

The dealer techs told me the purge valve could never make it so rich that it would stall but they were wrong and it's been over two years without one stall since I changed it out . Good luck .

It's called a evap purge valve . So far it's been 8 months and not one stall . In part two I believe I show the part and number .

my sons 201 f150 doing somewhat the same but doesnt kill if you tap the accelerator rpm goes up then it comes down and wants to go below 500 rpms catches itself then goes back to regular idle he said sometimes when hes at a stop he puts his foot on accelerator and nothing like it would be off then it catches and engine rpms go up. changed out pcv valve throttle body gasket cant find any vacuum leaks and no codes come up on my reader

To maintain minimum idle your ecm controls it thru your throttle body . Is the throttle body clean at the throttle plate would be my first place to look.

@@SteveRobReviews I looked at it and the flap that opens and closes has what looks like a set gap its not full closed I dont see anything like build up around the edge of the flap, now the square par the TB housing does have some build up on it but its very little and its on the outter side of the gasket

I'd look on your scan tool for the idle pid and see what the desired idle is compared to the actual idle when its acting up. I do know a lot of throttle bodies were changed because of this but you need to get it verified as the resolve because it's not cheap. Myself I'd try an idle relearn first .

2007 just started doing it right after hitting 285,000 miles. I'm gonna say mas air flow sensor..... since that's what I've been seeing on the forums so far. Now off to part 2 of this video to find out what he changed. 🤣

My guess without knowing anything else is, something is causing a low oil pressure sensor to shut it off.

Could be its all computer controlled but i'm thinking Ford wouldn't design a vehicle to stall out on low eng. oil or perceived low oil. A strange one forsure.

Hope it fixes it. I hate intermittent problems!

I may have a resolve - I will try it next vid. Going to be a year of testing to see if it resolves it but hey ya have to do something.

I need to know more...Keep in the back of your mind Steve that often an issue that doesn't trigger a code may be mechanically at fault and not electrically...What's low engine light mean.?..Low oil level warning.?..Faulty...Aaa..I'll wait 'cos I've never worked on one..Sounds like it just likes to remind you of it's birthday.

It only stalls on a decel at low speeds and so nice you don't even notice it. The only thing I notice is the tack is at zero and a blue oil can light appears on the dash lit up then i get a chime thru the speakers and that's it. NO codes or history codes. I put it in neutral and it starts right up and goes great for almost another year or less.

The problem must have something to do with the Ford emblem on the grill. lol

Steve my 2008 f 150 lariat is kind of doing the same thing. I took it in for an oil change, they left the air intake covers and I did my errands and drove home. It stalled 3 times with a shudder before stalling out first. I called them and took it back to tire depot where I got mt oil changed. The guy when reversing out of the parking spot looked at me and said it just thru a code. They checked my truck out the code was a cam sensor they cleaned it off and reversed it and said if it comes back on change the sensors. They didn't know what the shuddering was on my truck. Went home. Code came back on. Changed sensors. TRUCK STILL DOING THE SHUDDERING when coming to a stop or then coming to a slow speed at about 5 miles an hour. HELP PLEASE. I NEED MY TRUCK. THANKS SHERRIELYNN

If your getting and camshaft correlation code it most likely needs to be reset with a factory scan tool . Your best option is to bring the truck to a good shop to get diagnosed.

when it happened to me when I would come to a stop or try to back up the truck would shudder and stop it would restart right away but I had to feather the gas to keep it running but only after it warmed up for about 20 to 30 minutes I unplugged the solenoids and took out the variable timing and it ran just fine till I could get the cash together to do the phasers and guides and tensioners just gas millage went down and a bit less power but I had my truck to use

When a VW shuts off (with no codes in the ECM)... I'd suspect an issue with the power supply to the ECM (Power Control Module). An ECM that is turned off can't detect a fault... newer VW's will keep an eye on the power supply to the ECM and set a power supply code if the ECM were to shut off when it shouldn't. So my guess is power supply issue to PCM. If not that, then the disgronifier!

Seems logical but i do still have cluster power and no other electrical I can notice is shut down. Its like the fuel is shut off so smooth you would never notice the truck shut off until you hear a chime thru the speaker - bong- bong -bong

One would think then, that fuel trim history would point to a lean condition as the engine is running out of fuel. Guess this is one of those specific fuel systems that require x-amount of pressure... so it's a quick shut-off when it gets below that pressure. Most systems will allow the engine to run with under 20psi and it's a gradual power loss & stall. Looking forward to part 2.

Thomas every time It shuts off I just restart it so checking fuel trims I couldn't do so easy. From what I'm told and I agree its fuel related on some engines and that fuel is actually a fume not a liquid . A solenoid sticking open on a deceleration flooding out the engine . I think you know what it is now :) 👍

STEVE ROB REVIEWS If automstic vehicles shut off fuel during deceleration... vapours from the EVAP purge shouldn't be enough to flood. A flooded engine wouldn't start right away either. Definitely a weird one. Did I tell you I don't have any problems with my 27+ year old BMW's?

I'm a little late to this party but my 2016 2.7 eco boost (30k) is going in to the dealer on Wed. It is Stalling out while coming to a stop. Generally happens after long trips (300-600miles) only. Does not happens on the short (5 mile) trips to work and back. I came across your channel today and thought you'd give me some insight!? This truck is dangerous for my family to drive. I can deal with for now but unacceptable.

That's what mine did ever so inconstant that the dealer couldn't find a code but in my case in part two I changed out the evap purge valve and it hasn't stalled since but it hasn't been the regular eight months yet so I have to wait to see if it was the cure . Vehicles are complicated and sometimes pattern failures are all we can go with. I imaging the dealer has a good idea what it could be.

You need to check your connection to your computer sometimes I get loose and bounce around and it connection ain't connecting and clean your pins going into it

So this has been happening since the 2nd day of ownership and the dealership can't or won't fix the problem WITHOUT you paying for the guess of a part? Yes VERY intermittent issues are hard to detect (8-12 month intervals) I get that. But if you purchased a new vehicle and didn't even make it 48 hours without a problem then I would say it's on Ford. I'm not going on a Ford bashing rant. It's ALL makes that seem to NOT want take responsibility for their poor designs, parts or workmanship. Hope you can get this problem resolved and I'm looking forward to the follow up.

I can't blame the dealer or the staff because it does not show the condition at the dealership and runs fine and no codes or history codes. It stalls so nice you can tell with the radio on . Oh man this ford can stall better than any truck I have ever had. LOL

I'm not particularly blaming the dealership. I'm blaming FORD. The dealership staff can only do so much with the info given to them both by the truck AND Ford. Just like any other manufacturer, they don't want to fess up there's a glitch and won't admit it unless there is some sort of investigation or class action suit. IF the problem is only with a small % of vehicles they wash their hands of it and tell the dealerships it's the customer's problem and they need to cough up the cash for a POSSIBLE fix. There may very well be some sort of internal TSB on the matter. Like I said before, I hope you get this resolved.

Let me call Ivan, Eric or Keith. I know nothing. I hope you get it figured out. Those kind of intermittent problems are the worse to diagnose.

Why this happen often we can't find the problem no code! On my Ford 2011 f150 supercrew, the image in the rearview mirror is on the wrong side what is one the left is on right and vice versa. They don't know!!!!!!!!. Steve you have a new truck 2110 LOL

Well your either out of gas:) or as in my situation changing out the evaporative purge valve I show in the follow up video is the fix for me and might be the fix for you too.

Whooo hooo... well as stated below .. 25 years at the dealership and my knowledge Master Tech) has fixed the issue on my friends 2013 F-150 5.0. Intermittent stall when coming to a stop. Check engine light was on with a P-0300 random miss-fire. A while back I had a similar issue with a Ford Focus .. well my old rusty brain had a flashback and the issue is resolved. These Techs today rely on a code to repair a problem and will what I called (T&E) trial and error. After doing the “Repairs” note :2 things I did. One was the problem and the other was a “Preventative maintenance” and I re-road tested and it was gone.

Usually with a Ford you just need to take it apart and put it back together and it will be fine. :-)

more than likely its a loose nut behind the wheel!!!. seriously i have spent 30 years in the dealerships and this kind of thing is common. when i worked for hyundai we had a computer network across the country just for these problems. there might be some guy in idaho that had the same problem and he fixed it and let everyone know what the repairs are. intermittant no code problems are very frustrating to say the least

It's a drive by wire throttle body so it could be at that end but no codes.
