Guys who started in F1 at late 60's and raced at least up to 1973 faced the greatest development in F1 of all times with tremendous improvement in car handle and speed

A very underrated and a very unlucky driver in F1 . To me, he was one of the greats in the early 70s in F1, and its was very nice to see him have a lot more success in sport car racing

I was in the same team as Jacky. He was not unlucky. We talk together and Paul Frerre. Ferrari always gave to Jacky the slower car. He always got the second car with Ferrari. The Italian had the faster one.You cannot beat Jacky under the rain. He won 6 times Le Mans and was world champion in prototype.

Guy Bodart, comment vous êtes heureux d'avoir été sur la même équipe que Jacky Ickx. Vous devez être un grand pilote vous-même pour avoir été sur cette équipe. Je vous remercie d'avoir répondu à mon commentaire.

One of the best driver of the 65 ->80's, the time he was in F1, the cars were so scaring they couldn't even know exactly what the car could do when they'll go flat-out on the throttle. *Also, he is the most complete driver in history of racing.*

Interesting watching Ickx turn into bends you can see he’s drifting/sliding through the apex only other driver I can remember doing this was Shumi. Thanks for the video.

I had the rare opportunity to meet this F1 champion when he visited Madras (Chennai as it is known now) to open a Good Year tyre dealership. Very pleasant person. This was about 45 years ago. Unfortunately he did not make it big for reasons not known. Great driver.

Ickx and Stirling Moss are the greatest drivers who did not win the World Championship crown, but in truth Ickx should have been crowned the 1970 World Champion as Ridnt's Lotus 72 was running a completly illegal wing in the British Grand Prix in 1970, which in the second post race scrutiniring exercise post race, the Lotus passed, after the Lotus Mechanics had used all their weight to force the Wing of the Lotus 72 down to legal height, as it passed through a tunnel out to scruitiniring post.

Ickx was a far superior driver to Ridnt and before it retired at Clermont and Brands Ickx was leaving Ridnt for dead. The idea of the likes of FRank Williams that Ridnt was the fastest driver ever is nonsense. Ridnt was phenomenal in light F2 cars. In F1 Ridnt was a hard charger, but no driver destroyed the gearbox and tyres faster and his success in 1970 was attributable to the vastly superior speed and design of the Lotus 72 which meant that for once Ridnt didnt have to drive hard at all, and as he was only cruising, the 72 was reliable. Neverthess at Clermont and Brands Ickx was streets faster than Ridnt until the Ferrri 312 broke. Rodriquez, Surtees, Amon, Stewart and ickx were all clearly quicker than Ridnt even in 1970 and there was never any evidence than Ridnt was faster than Jack Brabham in his 40s.

+Frederick Miles You could say the same for Fittipaldi in 72, imo. Drivers like Ickx, Stewart, Revson and Hulme were definitely faster than him. I think the drivers that did well in the Lotus were Surtees, Clark, Arundell, Peterson, Andretti, De Angelis and Senna.

I qiute agree! Rindt was fast, but in a somehow "chrash-way", like the ones of Regazzoni, Peterson and SIffert. Full Trottle, but no elegance! Ickx had the elegance and the tactic-mind like Stewart, Clark and perhaps also Prost. He didn't make stupid mistakes, and didn't brake down the car in order to win. But he won a lot, in all categories, and was on his best days, on the most difficult tracks,- faster than anyone! To beat Stewart twice at the Nurburgring, speks for itself! Had he only stayed with Ferrari for 1974, he wouldt truely had become world-champion.

Maybe I did not understand the concept of racing. I thought to be the fastest is the goal, and not the elegant second, as Ickx in Hockenheim 1970 behind the "crash-way" driver. Maybe real elegance would be to ride in a tuxedo? I am confused. Probably, I don't understand F1 race experts like you. @@kriatianmikaelfrederiksen2015

Interesting that they never race in the wet in the USA; it could be the weighting of the cars - I think they always raced anti-clockwise - or maybe it was fear? I always considered Stewart, Ickx and Peterson the best wet-weather drivers I had seen, which marks them out as really special. Real shame that the Lotus 76 was such a disaster for the last two at the peak of their careers. Guess Ickx made the best choice given the unpredictability of Formula One. Conceivably those two would have made an unbeatable pairing in sports car racing - and Peterson ( like Ickx ) would still be with us today! Regret never seen Steve Thompson that I recall.

Jacky Ickx was with Jackie Stewart the best in his era but Ickx was very very unlucky with the cars he drove in his F1 time, would have been easily multiple times Worldchampion in the right car at the right time just as Stirling Moss , but bad luck was what Ickx always had in his F1 days........................
