Just came across this video. I was there for this testing day, I remember it well. I remember sitting in The Kentagon at lunchtime next to Keke Rosberg and members of his team. I also remember Ayrton Senna sitting in his car in the pits about to go out and looking at me for a photograph. Also remember Nigel Mansell sitting in his motor home on a brick mobile phone. Great memories, my fav' track (GP) in the U.K.

Brands Hatch 1985 qualifying day one Senna runs his fastest lap of 1:08.020 and takes first place. But this wasn't enough for him,he worried about Piquet catching up with him.So In day two of qualifying, takes his beast lotus 97T out of the pits and run the hell out of it...he scores 1:07.169 the fastest run of all time back then and takes pole position.Senna says:This was my fastest run ever I'll never forget it!! Damn Good old days! I miss Ayrton we all miss Ayrton! Thanks for this awesome nostalgic video!

What fantastic footage and sound! I watched at Spa in 87 and the Honda engine made your chest vibrate as they went by. Todays cars are just not visceral enough compared to this era.85 to 87 was a golden era inside of a bigger golden era!

@@BarryPrice1959I just want to know if these turbo engines were as loud as the naturally aspirated 90s and 2000s engines? I love these turbo engines so much, I cried when I heard the 2014 engines for the first time, I was hoping they would be as loud and rugged as the 80s. I hope to God the 2026 engines will be better.

This was when F1 was turbo charged and the engines roared with anger especially when they changed gears, the engines exploded with a screaming surge of power every time they let out the clutch! I'm from Montreal and I went to the GP twelve times!I really miss the great 1980's !

Barry these videos are so good. I always loved the FW11/B as a young lad cos of Mansell but tended to prefer the normally aspirated sounds of the later cars as they were so loud. Now I’m not so sure, these sound brutal! Brilliant upload.

Brands Hatch, such an awesome circuit. I read somewhere that they've recently restricted public access to some of the GP loop. Such a shame. I was there in '85 for the European Grand Prix. The PA was completely inaudible where I was stood so I had no idea Mansell had won untii long after the race had finished.

7:30- the commentator mentions Senna's "second last weekend in Holland". The Dutch Grand Prix was on August 25th, and between the Dutch GP and the Italian GP 2 weeks later, the JPS logo on the rear wings switched from 'John Player Special' to just 'John Player'. So I'm assuming this footage is from the weekend of August 31/ September 1?

At the time they were absolutely deafening. Still, when '89 rolled round and there were suddenly V12s, V10s, and V8's and variations of each it was pretty orgasmic. I'd been too young to see the pre-Turbo era live, so I had no idea what I'd been missing.
