    Imagine being in 1990, and for the first time in Formula 1, a driver challenges (or wins) the championship every year since 1981. Alain Prost was already a legend at that time... A living legend.

    For me, the most underrated driver in the history of the sport. A more complete driver than Senna, with superior race craft and an outstanding tactical driver. His ultra-smooth style meant he was a master of tyre and fuel management. Never chose to drive on the limit in his later years, but able to drive as quickly as Senna esp under race conditions. Also had significantly fewer accidents than his rival. Made a Ferrari into a world championship contender, making Mansell look very ordinary. He should have won in '90 and was robbed by the points scoring system in '84 and '88. Should have been a seven time champion.

    Shumi, Senna, Prost...Tier 1 Drivers (consistency, qualifying, race, no mistakes) Senna was the quickest, Prost forward thinking, Shumi, daring, sloppy but consistently fast and talented. Senna was seen as a Warrior driver, combined with perfection, great technique, musical genius with the pedal. I would of been nice to see Senna and Shumi from 1994 to 1998, but it wasn't to be. You can't really mimic, Shumi or Prost, but Senna is musical. Just watch his qualifying laps, it would make it to the top 100 singles.

  • @srxt6758

    @srxt6758

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@testdrive7772 yea but those are only his quali laps. One lap doesn't mean anything as his statistic shows. 65 poles and 41 wins which means 24 of those poles have gone to waste and were failed to be converted into wins. Now look at Schumi and Prost. Both of them have positive pole/win ratio which means they didn't need to put the car on pole to win races. This statistic shows both of them have superior race craft next to Senna. Senna was quicker than both of them on pure speed and managed to find time in a lap that other drivers couldn't. But thats his only superiority compared to Alain and Schumi. Sure he was amazing to watch and was amazing to fans gathering so much crowds with his driving but ask many team bosses and they would rather have Alain and Schumi in the car then Senna.

  • @testdrive7772

    @@srxt6758 Fair enough we all have our own opinions. But I think Senna was quicker then prost in 1988, 1989 in the same car in race. But either way, Prost, Senna, Shumi were not that far away from each other. Shumi was very quick in race pace, so would of been interesting to see Senna and Shumi go at it in 1994, to 1998.

And it had the most powerful engine- the V12 in that year’s car was actually redesigned by engineers from the shut down Honda F1 program whom Ferrari had hired. But it was also the thirstiest engine on the grid- which is why Ferrari (and eventually everyone else) went the V10 route- because it offered the best compromise on power and fuel consumption.

    @@joupoes6092 a bit late, but it's the same thing as current f1, you only operate the clutch when you are inserting the gear to or from neutral, or when you need to do a complete stop. you dont need the clutch when changing gear. back then they still use pedal for the clutch, but everyone moved to paddle clutch since the early 2000s

    In terms of driving styles I found Prost and Hamilton very similar

    The most overrated driver in history won championships on the back of friendship with head of FISA. And could not drive in the wet. I am now over 60 and thought the same back in 1984 when Prost gave up in the wet against Senna in a Toleman only for FISA to call the race off. Watch the race and you decide. Senna did it again in Portugal and later at Donnington and many other times. Prost always blamed the car or engine or anything except his snowflake attitude to racing poor little cry baby. Tissues needed in his car.

    Ohhh, you poor little snowflake. I’m over 60 as well and I worked in F1 through the 80’s and 90’s. Prost was F1 royalty back then and is still F1 royalty now. Do you know senna used to always use Prost’s car setup during their 2 years together? Do you also know that senna regarded Prost as the very best driver on the grid and to be the best, he had to beat the best? Do you know when Prost retired, senna lost his motivation to drive because not even Schumacher was even close to the competition that Prost was, and only Prost. I remember when sennas engineer asked senna that Mansell was fastest in the morning warm up, and told senna that Mansell was using soft tyres. Senna replied with “I don’t give a F%#\K about Mansell and his tyres, tell me what tyres Prost is using”. Remember that like it was yesterday. Senna had huge huge respect for Prost and vice versa. They were both as awesome as each other but like their personalities, their approach to racing and driving were completely different from each other. Coming from a guy who worked in McLaren, Williams, bennetton.
