    A typical Alain-Prost-Show. The Ferrari was almost a second off the pace that year, which didn't stop Alain from finishing this race on the podium. Having qualified fifth behind the superior McLaren and Williams, he made a cautious start, thus lion-hearted teammate Alesi squeezed by. Alain took his fifth place back during the second lap and then waited for Patrese and Berger to run into trouble. a clean third place. Alain Prost is my all-time favourite driver.

    Senna was an animal , he bullied his way into the top , also used dirty tricks. Prost was more gentle as a person and Senna used that against him , I still think Prost was a WAY smarter in dealing against Senna and making strategies in and outside the track . Even M. Shumacher complained about Sennas dirty driving, maybe that's why he didn't gave a ffuck about using TC ... It really was a jungle there at the time .

    Senna is arguably the best F1 qualifier of all time, despite his pole record falling to both Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton. But IMO Alain Prost is the best F1 race driver of all time. Eddie Cheever once said that you never had to worry about Prost during qualifying, unless he was actually on the pole or the front row. The time to get worried was after the race morning warm up when Prost's name was at or near the top with a time much closer to his qualifying time than anyone else. It was then you knew he had qualified with a good race set up.

He was hated for telling the truth and was always misunderstood, especially by drivers and the media. Clean, money-saving driving style, analytical work strategy. Back then, Formula 1 was what the name stood for. Challenging tracks that were integrated into nature rather than mathematically calculated, powerful engines, diverse designs in the cars, and real driver personalities. From last to first. Nothing of that has remained. GOAT! Over and out!

    Gaucho. What is it with ignorant Senna fanboys like you. Prost worked very hard to help the teams with their cars Ferrari gave him the truck no wonder he complained about it, they did not really fire him, they paid him not to drive for any other team in 1992. Maclaren did not fire Prost, he left the team because Senna was getting all the support from the team and Honda. Prost had the best team mates and he beat them all. Senna wanted the best car and without Prost he may never have got the drive at McLaren.

  • @barrierodliffe4155

    @barrierodliffe4155

    Gaucho. You call me ignorant yet the Ferrari in 1991 was not at all good, 1990 they had a good car and Prost may have won at Suzuka if Senna had not driven into him. Prost won 5 races and Mansell 1 with Suzuka it would quite likely be Prost 6 wins and the title. 1991 Prost could not win a single race, obviously the car was not a patch on 1990. You are truly very ignorant. Prost was known for his ability to set up cars, Senna copied Prost's set ups in 1998. Prost wanted the best car, who didn't but prost made second rate cars look good. Prost stayed with Renault for three years trying to help improve the car, then he got offered the seat at McLaren and Lauda only won by 1/2 a point, Prost won 2 more races. The next year Prost won easily and Lauda said that Prost was too fast for him. Senna did not beat Prost in 1988, Honda tried very hard to let Senna win and only the bad points system gave Senna the title being 11 points behind Prost, 1989 it was 21 points and Honda and the bad points system failed to help Senna again. 1990 at Ferrari when Prost was working for the team setting up the cars Mansell was of playing. Mansell was upset at how much faster Prost was. Why not ask Jean Alesi about 1991, I have never heard him say anything bad about Prost, I notice you leave out Rosberg in 1986 Maybe you could lie about what he said too. Then again what about Damon Hill in 1993, you do not mention him either. Maybe you are just an ignorant fool who knows nothing about F1 or any of the drivers. Go back to the Senna movie and some pathetic KZread videos you get all that rubbish from.

  • @barrierodliffe4155

    6 жыл бұрын

    Gaucho. You claim to not be a Senna fanboy, then you are just a hater of the best driver you never saw race, the driver Senna had to try so hard to beat. The fact that the Ferrari in 1991 was not half the car it had been in 1990 is very obvious to all except fools and Senna fanboys, take your pick. Your next sentence is unintelligable. Lauda won in 1984 by just 1/2 a point, I never said it was unfair, but Prost was faster and 1985 Prost won by 23 points. 1988 when Senna won by earning 11 points less than Prost was fair only in the eyes of Senna fanboys or fools, take your pick. Hill was a new driver but he was good and in what way a 2nd driver, Williams had no 1st or 2nd driver. Eddie Cheever has said that Prost was the best driver. Rene Arnoux was not even close to Prost and he did not ever help Prost even when Prost was in with a chance of the title and Arnoux was well out of it. Rosberg said after 1986 "Prost is the best driver I ever raced against and he is bloody quick. mansell was upset at how much quicker Prost was. Prost was the best ever at setting up cars and getting the most out of them. Maybe ask Frank Williams or Ron Dennis. If you ever grow up it would be a surprise.

    @@stam1ska On street cars most V6s sound like a wet shart because they’re driven by people finding the loudest exhaust system possible with no thought put into the note itself and how to achieve it (eg: where/if the exhaust merges from the two banks, resonators, etc.) like how, say, R35s manage to produce their distinctive note. Not so sure about F1 v6s but I’d hazard a guess and say they’d be making a nicer note if they were an inline configuration, though they don’t sound bad compared to 2014-16. That being said, I don’t think it’s possible to get a V6 to sound anything like the F1 V12s of yesteryear, without doubling the required engine RPM at least.

    Prost certainly deserved a better car, just look what he did in 1990, even having Mansell as team mate and Mansell beng treated as the number 1 driver, Prost at Mexico was 13th on the grid, 1.3 seconds slower than Mansell who was 4th on the grid, Prost won the race over 25 seconds ahead of Mansell. Prost won 5 races to Mansell just 1. If anyone thinks Prost was given number 1 status maybe they should look at Monaco where prost's car was damaged at the start through no fault of his and he had to take the sapre for the restart, the spare was car set up for Mansell.

    Paul. Maybe you do not know that Mansell was notorious for being harder on cars and why was the spare car set up for Mansell? mansell won just one race, beaten soundly by Prost . Just look at Mexico when Mansell qualified 4th and Prost 13th over 1.2 seconds behind, Prost came through the field to win and Mansell came 2nd 25 seconds behind. How do you get Mansell faster than Prost is a mystery. All year prost was fighting Senna, Mansell was not in it. Maybe you missed out on how Prost helped the team with all the development in 1990 and Mansell when not at the race was away playing. 1991 when the Ferrari was not at all good and the team instead of listening to Prost who was trying to help improve it, tried to put blame onto Prost, aybe he should not have called it a truck but he was right as the results showed, Jean Alesi could do little with that car either and he was not a slow driver. Ferrai paid Prost to not drive for any other team the next year. Just as Williams paid Prost for 1994 and Senna desperate for a drive offered to race for nothing.

    Prost was lucky he got the good care i don't what your point is yes he beat Mansell but he given treatment when he fired Ferrari actually said they wished they back Mansell over Prost in 1990 that said it all. Mansell not on hard on cars and when his car was good he was unstoppable look at him in the Williams in 1991 he blew Prost away and 1992 his record in the Williams was better than what Prost did in 1993 he more wins and poles. You say Mansell was scared of Prost that is why he ran to indy car actually not true Willams try to reduce to cut his salary just so Prost or Senna could join in 1993 only reason he left. Why should he take a pay cut when he did all the hard work risking his life making Williams great again for a driver that had been sitting on his ass all year and who wasn't doing anything. Mansell said he had no problem driving with Prost again but knew Williams was going treat him like Ferrari did giving Prost better treatment he wasn't stupid.

  • @barrierodliffe4155

    @barrierodliffe4155

    Paul. I guess you missed out on how many of the Ferrari engineers liked Prost because of how well he understood the cars and how he helped to improve them. Mansell in 1991 had arguably the best car, Senna also had a very good car, The Ferrari was not good or why did Alesi not achieve anything much in it? Mansel in the best car lost the title. Senna only won in 1991 because Mansell blew engines up too often. The 1992 Williams was by far the best car and Prost was not there or who knows? The 1993 Williams was said to be not as dominant as the 1992 Williams and Mansell having tried to get more money than Williams were prepared to pay ran away to Indy cars. Mansell only had a problem with Prost because he could not keep up with him even when Mansell was being treated like the number 1. Who was fastest? Brazil won 5 races and Mansell just 1. If you think Prost was given preference just tell me why the spare car was set up for Mansell and not Prost? Maybe because Ferrari knew Mansell was more likely to need it. When did Mansell work hard? he did nothing in the way of set up leaving that to others. Even when Mansell had the best car in 1986 he failed to beat Prost in the inferior McLaren, then 1987 Piquet his team mate beat him. Mansell could drive fast, sometimes almost as fats as Prost but Prost was not only usually faster but more consistant. Williams were not stupid they knew who was the best.

  • @paulmcnamara4774

    They still fired him in the end that means he wasn't well liked unlike Mansell they wanted Mansell back in 1991 and said they backed the wrong driver. Mansell was never worried about Prost when it came to speed he much faster he was look at Silverstone 1990 that qualify lap that was Mansell v Prost to me totally blew him away. If Mansell had Prost's car he would of won title that year and you know that. Prost 1993 Williams was better than 1992 but he never match Mansells record in 1992 not close.to the 9 he had won that proves if Mansell given a good car he wipe the floor with everyone. Williams broke their promise to Mansell in 1992 by cutting his salary that is why he walked away if they honoured their contract with him he would of driven with Prost. Also what about Prost running away from Senna in 1993 you say Mansell ran from him but did the same regarding Aryton who to me was the best driver of all time.

    The camera gets dirt all th time, but it had that auto-clean function. The driver in the other hand has only 3 tears-off (I think), we see no hand move by Prost to clean his visor with the back of his glove. Imagine how difficult is to drive a Formula 1 car, with all the speed and G force, also it's really hard to see... Racing drivers are true heroes!!!

    in the dry, yes, he rarely failed. in the wet he made a lot of mistakes. i remember Monaco 82, he was in the lead and when 3 laps to the end it began to rain he crashed. same in Brazil 93, in Montreal 89, Estoril 85, not to forget the huge mistake of Imola 91, when he lost the car durging formation lap parking his Ferrari for the tifosi disappointment. but overall Prost was one of the greatest of this sport: his application with technicians, his skilluful car setting, his work behind the curtains, his effective driving style which was most impressive. he made it look effortless, saving tyres without slowing down. very interesting to observe.

    @@INDIGOBLUE555 yes, visibility is a key factor in wet races. for ex. Silverstone 88. Prost was trapped in traffic after a bad start and finished lapped by Senna. he simply wasn`t in his element that day. on the other hand we have Spa 89, when he was in 2nd position and his pace was decent and he was able to keep behind Mansell. so when the condition allowed it he was able to make well.

    @@herbertfischnaller4516 Prost was capable of an outstanding self control in negotiating the risk factor : max performance with as lower risk rate as possible.That's why he wasn't as brilliant when overtaking:just waiting and going for it at the right time without taking unnecessary risk.He never lost his cool.I would also like to remark that during his F1 carreer he most of seasons had to deal with tough and quick team mates: Arnoux Lauda Senna Mansell and K.Rosberg...Tough and hell fast guys.

    agree. Prost was better overall. but Senna was the man for mission impossible. i cannot immagine Alain or Nigel win with a car which has 100 hp less than the top (Donington 93) or winning with one gear (Interlagos 91). even at Ferrari that year they doubted that was real, too bad that Senna had a onborad camera that day and he had manual gearshifting. you can clearly see how he does not leave his hand from the wheel....but ok, Prost had the ability to make look the sport effortless. in fact, in qualifying he beated all his teammates from 1980 on (and he had a lot of quick ones), with the exception of one guy....

It was an obvious mechanical failure that killed Senna, nothing to do with confidence. He has lost his composure because Rubens was in the hospital and Roland Ratzenberger was in the grave after these two accidents that happened during the race weekend. Things like that ALWAYS make you have second thoughts on everything
