F1 Drivers of the 2000s: Where are they now?

Спорт

Formula 1 is very much a game of survival of the fittest; if you don’t perform, you won’t last long. There are few drivers afforded the privilege of retiring on their own terms, and many of them will leave against their will and take their skills elsewhere, either continuing to race in other series or moving on to something else entirely. 71 drivers raced in Formula 1 in the 2000s. As of 2023, just two of them are still on the grid, but let’s see what the remaining 69 are up to these days.

    - Alex Wurz is still a Toyota team advisor and travels to all WEC races with them. - Jacques Villeneuve was not a test driver for Mercedes in 2010 and 2011 - I don't know where that information comes from but it's not true. - Marc Gené signed to race Nissan's ill-fated LMP1 in 2015, but stepped back to an advisory role prior to Le Mans. Mark Shulzhitskiy, an eSports graduate, replaced him. - Ralph Firman's engineering company (Pure Precision Engineering) was dissolved 3 months ago. - Jos Verstappen manages the career of GT3 driver Thierry Vermeulen, who's making his DTM debut this season. Thierry's father Raymond, in turn, manages a certain Max Verstappen. - Justin Wilson was survived by his brother Stefan, who remains active and will attempt to qualify for this year's Indy 500 this week. - Mika Salo also has a racing son: Max Salo, who did SMP F4 and Japanese F4 (with shocking results) and currently competes in Super Taikyu.

About Massa, I believe that he should NOT recieve the F1 championship via appeal, because while Crashgate had definitely manipulated the outcome of the race, Piquet technically crashed on his own account because he wanted to leave Renault. On top of that, Massa didn't have a good result that same race. Sure it wasn't completely of his wrongdoing, but shìt happens; that's racing. Love Massa, but that's an L for him.

37:40 - Disqualified for WEED? It's a depressant, it LOWERS reaction times. Somebody needs to explain how it "gave him an advantage". 40:45 - The greatest pay driver ever. He went from the bu++ of jokes at the start to being respected by everyone when he retired. A decent career, and a great post-F1 life.

When you consider how much 'Parental funding & assistance' has enabled family members & their talents to enter the sport regardless of ability (but, being heavily assisted by parental funding/& contacts!) . . . you've gotta wonder how many undiscovered talents are still 'Out-There', who are very fast, but simply don't have parents to help them into "the industry" Its all VERY insular and 'Auto-incestuous' [ ! ]
