Keep in mind that all the characters from Starfox exist in the F-Zero universe except that they're humans instead of anthropomorphic animals. James would be the father of Fox, in both universes--Starfox and F-Zero. Since we know that Wolf O'Donnell isn't dead in the Starfox universe but that this O'Donnell perished in the war, it implies that they are not reference to the same character unlike both James'. I have a fan theory that this O'Donnell, James McCloud's partner and best friend, was perhaps the father of Wolf O'Donnell that would clash with James's son, Fox.

Honestly, the way this was written, it seems like the writers just saw "mercenary" as James' occupation and ignored everything else. In the main series, Galaxy Dog is predominantly a military security company, focused mostly on providing defense when an actual military force can't spare the manpower. After James had a son, he retired from active duty but still manages the company, and converted his fighter into the F-Zero machine we all know as the Little Wyvern, so that he could spend more time with his son while still putting his piloting skills to use. He plans to use the prize money to get his son a racing machine of his own. Here, though, he's an entirely different character outside of the Star Fox references, and hardly lives up to the McCloud name. If anything, his last name here should be Dengar (if you know that name and the amount of horse shit it wallows in, you'll know why). Admittedly, they do do a good job of writing this far less heroic version of the character, but it doesn't feel right for the character. I feel like they should have made a new character for this storyline, maybe have him be one of James' partners rather than using James himself.

@@djcat64 Aw, thanks, anywho, at their time of desperation, I'm guessing O'Donnell wanted to make a last stand and throw a grenade at the enemy. But then, the enemy had struck him down before he could throw it. To many, they probably saw this as a suicide attempt or him saying F it, but to me, this is a last act of bravery for O'Donnell. More proof of my theory from about 20 years ago that F-Zero, Metroid and Starfox are all connected. Although the time that F-Zero takes place compared to Starfox is Tricky (the triceratops!)

It seems a little out of character, however we don't really get much back story on James to be honest so maybe it is accurate. I came up with various theories back on the day about how the F-Zero McCloud was actually still also the Starfox McCloud but knowing that this is set about 200 years in the future and Starfox 64 is set around about the 1950's (earth time) then that wouldn't make sense. Although you could always fanwank on some time travel shenanigans or basically.... daylight savings being applied across galaxies... I should make a podcast about this kind of over the top in depth deep dive into games that are over 20 years old so liked minded weirdoes like myself can enjoy.....

Guys, you should stay until the end of each episode and listen to what Bart has to say ;) There's some quite interesting trivia

This was such a deep episode. The reference was obvious to me even in the late 90s but trying to actually join the dots and work out if he somehow COULD be the same James McCloud as in Starfox... This would take many hours of discussion...maybe I need to start a podcast to do that!

Ryu usually do references of people related to Falcon/the same Falcon using the chara of Mighty Gazelle: first, the "Gazelle Kick! Gazelle Punch!", and now, the Mighty Gazelle Mk-II. Who has a BBB? Other than making a custom machine in GX, but they did a brilliant job of balancing that by making sure if you gave it all AAA it would have horrendous acceleration and handling due to being overweight.

最後の説明に出て来たのも仲間達も完全にスターフォックスのメンバーだし、ピグマとペッピーって(笑) あと、大親友の名前がオドネルって…それ、完全にウルフじゃん(笑) ウルフのフルネームは「ウルフ・オドネル」だし。 出身惑星もライラット系第３惑星コーネリアで妻と息子がいると来たらもうねぇ…(笑) ちなみに、スターフォックスコマンドではエンディングの１つに「G-ZERO」って言うのと敵キャラにオクトマンがいるので、完全にF-ZEROから逆輸入された可能性あり。

ファルコン伝説の中でもこの話は特に好き

+Solqueen86 That's just Command. F-Zero's Mcloud debuted back in F-Zero X. In other words F-Zero referenced Star Fox first, not the other way around.

I'm surprised that no one addresses the fact that James McClouds voice actor also voiced Takumi Fujiwara from Initial D and James from the Pokemon anime.

Nice hint, the producers really mixed up both universes to create one good anime after all. I don't know if they'll mention Bianca City, if they haven't done it previously.

I love how this series makes references to other series as well. :) First, Mr. EAD, who looks like MARIO and has dressed up as PEACH in one episode. Then, Dr. Clash, who looks VERY SIMILAR to Dr. Eggman from Sonic the Hedgehog. Also, Clank, who looks like a young Vegeta when using that Pink lens on his head. Finally, James McCloud, who shares the same last name as FOX McCloud and even has the same outfit/hair as Fox too! Love these kind of references! :D

Infinity Master also his partner O'donnell is a reference to Fox's rival, Wolf O'donnell, and in the last segment, they reference James McCloud's original Star Fox team, with Peppy Hare and Pigma. Pigma betrayed them, though and joined Star Wolf. Man they really do their homework!
