Lutyano Alves Woodpeckers only experience that force when they slam their heads into a tree- they only experience this briefly, as oppposed to a constant a 189g pressure. In addition, they have evolved to be able to withstand this force. Humans have not evolved to withstand 189g. Also, this entire section is wrong since speed /=/ g-force. Acceleration = g-force.

In the beginning, the guy said all the TAS presented here are replayed on an unmodified Gamecube, meaning that even if the encoder have trouble dealing with that speed, the Gamecube doesn't and still send a 60 fps signal. I still can't believe how well F-Zero GX is coded, maybe the reason Nintendo didn't release another F-Zero yet is because there is no way they can do a better Job (a HD remake on Switch would be nice though)

  • @StaszGonyon

At the very least, all the old F-zeroes should be remade in a modern or pseudo-modern style. However, we get abundant yet minor tweaks to the Mario formula, not necessarily "better" but despite the lack of significant changes, they keep pumping them out regardless. More and more characters added to each Smash Bros. is not really altering much in the core gameplay; how much "better" is each new game really? Why not get variations of these types for F-zero? Just because the change isn't MAJOR, as alleged by Nintendo, doesn't mean we don't deserve tweaks or variations on the existing formula. Since they never try, how do we know what can or can't be done with F-zero anymore? Finally, if they can constantly tweak the Mario Kart formula with non-kart vehicles being the only big change, then they have no excuse to hold back potential Fzero material that many fans would appreciate just as much like the plethora of inconsequential changes in these other series. I sure would!

Disc-based systems are a challenge because we can't deterministically predict how long it will take to read data off a spinning optical disc. The method using the GBA and listening for hooks from the game on when the level starts combined with the unique game engine F-Zero GX uses made true console verification possible. I'll be providing more info on my next Twitch stream at twitch.tv/dwangoAC if you're interested.

m e When playing a disc game, you can't predict when the game will start. Because of that, it's hard to do a good TAS. For instance, if you start accelerating after 5 seconds, you might be early because the game loaded in 3 ... Or too early if the game loaded in 7. In either case, the TAS won't work. The main difference here with the GBA is that the GBA is waiting for cues of the game to start driving. The TAS will be OK whatever the time it takes to load. Theres 2 implications : - 1 : you could do a TAS that works online. A bot that start driving exactly when all player are loaded in. - 2 : you can do an AI that 'see' what happens and react accordingly (think fighting games).

Forget xbox series x and ps5 with failing to achieve a higher fps value than 60 in a stoned slow game like assasins creed or something - F-ZERO my boys! And a sonic unleashed style game. FaliggetFTW What were you expecting us to do? In general we have to use content that's already been created, in part because the GDQ submissions process requires submitting a video of the run and we don't get special treatment from the committee (although I do keep in close contact with them). On rare occasions in the past we've been able to show entirety new content but I have to rest sometime so I try to take it easier for SGDQ events. This is probably the most complex SGDQ I've organized in fact.

thats why the trick with the gba was treated so seriously, that was an actual tas runnning verification in real time, and yeah so far its extremely difficult because of loadtimes being so variable, especially between individual consoles, one might have a dirty lens, one might have a borked drive...not to mention the disc might have a scratch. Too many variables to account for.

As others have noted, we showed replay files for the first few levels then demonstrated that we can with enough effort get real honest-to-goodness console verification using a GBA to provide inputs through the controller ports. It's very challenging as you saw but it's possible with enough effort.

couldnt somebody modify some controller hardware so that it would be possible to program a series of inputs purely electronically, from a computer?

It was one of my biggest concerns ahead of time. I asked them to use tighter shots so there was less crowd movement to contend with so there were more bits available for the game. The higher bitrate of this event definitely helped.

It was done using specially crafted replay saves on the memcard. I wasn't really involved with the ACE so can't give any specifics.

  • @Eiertschik

My best guess is that there is a bug in the game's code they managed to exploit using a modified replay file. Then they were able to run their own code stored on the memory card.

reprogramming the game/console using button presses is only required for consoles they can't plug a modifiable storage medium (like a memory card programmed on a PC) into, like NES or SNES.
