This was the day when the actors and actresses showed class, and everything was all age appropriate. Not like today's nonsense.

ABC occasionally featured some of its "sitcom stars" as special attractions on the "PALACE" {Elizabeth Montgomery was a guest hostess in October 1966}, the better to promote their series. This segment was from November 27, 1965, when Janet Leigh was "headlining" the show that night...

Union means the North in the Civil War, whereas Lee was the head of the Confederate forces. Remember, the series took place shortly after the end of the CIvil War.

After that episode, Asher wanted Paul on an "occasional" basis, and brought him back as "Uncle Arthur" in the fall of '65 {"The Joker Is A Card'}. After "BEWITCHED" ended, Asher sold ABC an updated version of the 1962 "HOWIE" pilot, as "THE PAUL LYNDE SHOW" (1972-'73).

Well, in the opening production number, 'Dave', Liz dances with a group of "chorus boys" to the "BEWITCHED" theme, punctuated with "magicial" gestures (and her nose twitch), but she's never identified as "Samantha" [that was as close as she came to "being in character" that night]. The rest of the hour was devoted to showing just how charming, talented and funny she really was. It's also posted here...

I believe most of these bits were from the Las Vegas appearances these guys made at about the same time, in character. Sitcoms didn't pay as handsomely as they now do and they supplemented their incomes by playing Vegas.

I don't really have a way of confirming it, but I think I once read that there were plans for an F Troop stage musical-comedy following the series' final season. Supposedly, Forrest Tucker, Larry Storch, Ken Berry and James Hampton got together one weekend, wrote some songs and worked out some dance routines...but, sad to say, the plans fell through. Whether it's true or not, though, I thought it was a great story.😊

Thansk again. William Asher just died. (Obviously you know this). Thanks for posting this rare episode. Always fun to see rare programming with O/C.

I didn't post this one, 'Dave', but thanks, anyway. The "HOWIE" pilot is also posted...Asher had a long and glorious career.

This Hollywood Palace must have been on sometime in the mid 60s. Janet Leigh is looking mighty good after that 1960 incident at the Bates Motel in Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho". 🔪🔪

Lynde wasn't a regular any more than Marian Lorne and Maurice Evans were...but they appeared often enough, viewers believed they appeared more often...(?). Lynde's first appearance {"Driving Is the Only Way To Fly"} was through the courtesy of William Asher, frequent director {and Liz's husband}, who worked with him on an unsold 1962 pilot ["HOWIE"], an episode of "THE PATTY DUKE SHOW", another unsold 1964 pilot, and one of the "Beach Party" movies he directed.....

Dick Sargent replaced York in the fall of '69. That was Liz's hour, and she wanted Paul Lynde to join her on camera for that edition...

Oh I see..thanks--although Paul lynde was a TV icon according to the Bewitched episode guide--he only acutally appeared in 8 episodes as Uncle Arthur but appeared in a first season episode as a driving instructor..so only 9 episodes?
