    Tarrega was out of this world when it came to showing what he could do with a piece of music on the guitar. This man is nothing short of of a genius when it comes to playing what Tarrega could do with a piece of music on the guitar. This performance is definitely nothing short of miraculous.

    I like the way he plays the guitar. Most guitarists (also most of the elite) play the guitar as if it were a piano. They all sound the same and that`s rather boring. He doesn`t. He belongs absolutely to the best guitarists. Incredibly musical, really good sound, very virtuoso and never boring. Wonderful in each aspect. Bravo!!

    This is one of the best performances ever of the Carnival of Venice variations, which reminds me of the recorded longer version by Alexandre Lagoya (Lagoya whose M. Rossfelder has been a student). See also the performance of master Aniello Desiderio at the 2008 "virtuosos of guitar festival", Moscow. The stuff appears to be a very huge score where guitarists can go and pick variations they want to put together. The lenghth of such an opus makes it possible to register quite all the guitar techniques from harmonic sounds and tremolo to pizzicati sounds. A very big work of M Francisco Tarrega that surely can explain better who he was.

    Démonstration magistrale d'à peu près tout ce qu'on pouvait faire sur une guitare (si on y parvenait!!) fin XIXième-début XXième. AxStoryxToxBexTold He crosses the top string over the next one down, which causes the two to sort of “snare drum” against each other, when played. But much easier said than done. Particularly when playing the melody simultaneously. Probably sounds better through a mic with reverb like he has though. Still amazing technique though.

  • @nicholasrees1838

    @nicholasrees1838

    It's surprisingly easy actually and should probably be used more by guitarists and composers. Even in flamenco - which is not averse to various percussive techniques - it is not common. Tarrega also used this technique in his "Gran Jota" which this piece very much emulates. You will see that there is a slight pause while he pushes the 6th string over the 5th which is the standard way to do it. Once the strings are crossed they need to be kept in place by a finger - probably the index - the other fingers are now free but the position of the hand on the fingerboard is pretty much fixed at this stage so the opportunity for chord shapes is limited. The guitarist is using rasguado to vary the sound of the "drum" - sounding more like a snare in this instance. This piece is really a set of variations many of which call on different guitaristic techniques, tremolo, rasguado, etc. Not my sort of piece really but probably good entertainment value.
