    Hi Chris, 1.) did the shape of the straps change as well? From some angles it looks like they had more of an s-shape than the "old" model (which would be a good idea). 2.) I wish you'd have brought back the Molle-straps on the side of the backpack (first Gen.) for e.g first aid kits. I miss them a lot.

    Really good review of a first class backpack. I own the original version and I love it. I will say that one thing you may have overlooked (or just not included in the video) about the original Tilopa is there is in fact a laptop sleeve, but you access it via the top section, which if you ask me is a more protective location than a sleeve in the back flap which is literally opened and closed all the time and potentially knocking the laptop each time. My main gripe with the original Tilopa is the built-in side straps (replaced by removable gatekeepers in v2) because the tension controls in the straps are useless whereas the removable gatekeepers have the clamps that prevent slippage. I use those side straps to carry a tripod attached to the bag, and the strap slippage is a PITA. Maybe one day I'll upgrade to v2 but it's hard to justify when v1 is actually so good.

    FANTASTIC review... I must have purchased one of the last of the original Tilopa bags as I was putting together my support gear while I waited for my back ordered R6 and trinity of RF lenses. I haven't even had an opportunity to use the Tilopa yet, and here I am sincerely thinking about getting this version II edition... as it addresses all of my 'wishes' for the original plus some I didn't even know about until I saw this video!!! I hope the ICU's I ordered will fit this new version... I think they should???? Great review amigo. Rev. Thom, Mission Pawsible

    Wonderfully informative! Helped me decide to get the older version...I love the bigger side pockets, love plastic over metal on a camera bag (would you rather drop a filter/lens on metal or plastic?), love not having to put a laptop on the opening flap. But I do hate the useless molle attachments on the old flap! Your assessment and detailed comparisons were very helpful, thank you for the effort you put into this!

    Hey bud, I was thinking the same thing when I first saw this, however happy to say, not the case! This bag really feels planted and comfortable. To be honest, prior to this new Tilopa bag, the most comfortable camera bag that I have tested has been the Nomatic Peter McKinnon backpack. The straps on that bag are bad ass, and comfort wise pushed the original Tilopa to second place for me. Well... their new Tilopa bag, has taken the number one spot back for comfort, and that takes into account entire comfort of using this bag.

    Hey bud, who am I to knock your opinion. This video is all about my opinion. And based on that...4.2lbs for a bag that is 50L is nothing. Dang... come to think of it... my other favorite bag is the Nomatic 37L/42L Peter McKinnon pack, and that thing weighs in at 5.75lbs. So this bag is noticeable lighter and has ~13L more space. I agree buts it’s the same weight as Shimoda X50 and I don’t see anything lighter with the storage. Neither comes with an insert factored into the weight so we are talking 6lbs actually in practice. I wish the Alex Strohl ultralight bag had more camera room.

  • @nic7615

    @nic7615

    @@photographytalk 4.2 lb does not include the insert correct? I think the weight will be same as the McKinnon bag once suited up for use. I wish there was a lighter option. I have both Atlas packs also, the smaller one is too too small and the large one at over 8lbs is way too heavy for hiking and I don’t find a good use of space leftover for non-camera gear.

    Oh man, those backpacks have nothing on this, specially if you're a traveling filmmaker. I've had the old Tilopa for years and I recently just got back from traveling across Latin America with just the Tilopa and a smaller daily backpack. It's survived many weathers and conditions from torrential rain, desert heat, tropical humidity, salty conditions, and so on.
