Love the sharing. ❤️ Agree with the experience in Malaysia vs overseas. You will definitely find yourself maturing sooo much in such a short space of time. I also find the accent very hard to get used to when I first went to UK. I spent 1 year not understanding what my lecturers are saying 🤣🤣🤣🤣 now it's the other way round where I do not understand the extreme Malaysia English accent after being overseas for nearly 16 years now. 🤣 Definitely no spoon feeding in overseas, pretty much left to fend for yourself! I agree with the difficulty in finding your voice in group tutorials as I also had that difficulty for years in med school. But the hopeful thing is that confidence continues to grow during clinical n working years esp when u have to present for Ward rounds etc. I guess that's all the maturing process we all go though to eventually becoming a Dr. Tough, long journey but worth the while ❤️ once U have specialised and finished that journey, life is good and all the hard work is definitely worth it. 👍 Oh U might actually find your Chinese language skills very handy if you decide to work in Aussie. I found that working in Melbourne, there are many Chinese patients who speaks mandarin as their main language so knowing Chinese was definitely a real bonus for me! Aussie pays Drs well so do think twice if you really wanna go back to Malaysia to work. I guess the only true reason to go back to Malaysia would be for family. Or else I would definitely stay back overseas to work 🤭🤭

Thanks for the long replies omg! It definitely makes me feel better knowing that it's normal to feel certain way! Yes I really do find it hard when it come to home sick right now otherwise the other life aspect in Australia is definitely better! I really hope you're doing fine in Melbourne and maybe we could have coffee in the future! Are you working as a specialist already btw? ☺️

@@katherinelim6060 yeahhh passed my MRCGP in UK then converted to FRACGP here in Aussie so am working as a GP in Melbourne at the moment 🤭🤭🤭 so that is a full specialist now. moved from Malaysia to UK in 2005 then moved to Aussie in 2017. Haha... Hope will be my last ever move. I love Aussie more for sure. 🤭🤭 I guess I moved so many countries and being from Malaysia, I can surely relate with how you are feeling! But thank God I have passed those stages you are going through right now and it sure does make you a tougher person at the end of it! I was gonna suggest coffee or something but thought I better wait for your reply first just in case U were not keen. Hopefully once this covid thing is under control and the state borders reopened. When you pop down to Melbourne one day, welcome to stay over at mine or even day trip is ok can meet up for meal/coffee/brunch to talk about life haha 🤭 my eldest sister was from IMU too and she twinned with UK. she just passed her UK opthalmology fellowship exams recently and completed the fellowship so now a fully qualified opthalmologist liao 🤭🤭 my younger sister also a fully qualified respiratory consultant in UK now. Time sure flies!!! But I definitely have not forgotten the days when I was still a student! Always helps to have people more senior than you then you get more vision into the future. 🤭🤭

@@stht5343 I was just having my GP placement! I always thought gp were easy cause the system in msia kinda makes me think so. Although i find it draining sometimes but it’s a very rewarding specialty! The GP in Australia sure is different hahahaha

@@katherinelim6060 haha GP in Malaysia looks easier cuz I think most of the time the complex patients wud go and see specialist straightaway. Where as GP in UK and Aussie is similar where we see everything and then send the patients to relevant specialties based on their problems. I think this is better cuz at least patients are being sent to the right specialist. For example my recent patient who came in complaining of swelling of face and arm saw me and I did some tests and found he has nephrotic syndrome then quickly send him to emergency for admission to nephrology. Thank God it was caught in time before any nephrotic syndrome complications happen. So yeah GP in Aussie is exciting haha.. we do see a lot of things here but good thing is we have a great work life balance working as a GP in Aussie.

Hi. Just watched your video. Your English is great by the way. The education system in Malaysia sounds stressful! Haha. My advice for your groceries is to buy a little trolley, the kind you see old ladies using. It's embarrassing but it will save your back. I use one and I don't care what anyone thinks haha. Embrace the cart! Eating out in Australia is really expensive and half the time the food isn't even that good. Do they have Aldi in Canberra? It's much cheaper than woolworths. Woolworths "woolies" and Coles both have delivery. That's another way to save your back and time. In regards to being homesick, just remember that the grass is always greener. I've lived overseas and experienced the homesick feelings. When I finally got home I realised that not much had changed at home but I had changed. If you stay in Australia and want to be part of more culture, definitely go to Sydney or Melbourne. They are both great cities, I like Melbourne more but I'm bias haha 😄 Welcome to Australia!

Thanks for the assurance! Oh gosh I remember I was going to get the trolley, me and my friend was laughing together at the red trolley sold in BigW hahaha. Yes we have Aldi in Canberra centre, I go there sometimes! Felt homesick but definitely feel Australia is better in many aspect, people here are mostly polite, nice and open minded which kinda the place I like to be at! I'll definitely explore Melbourne and Sydney after the lock down! Thanks for commenting :)
