I think that's great company for Ren to be among and I take it as a good indicator of how successful he already is as an artist, and how that might continue.

several reactors have gotten a copyright strike from Universal Music or something to that effect... I know personally several have reached out to Ren to let him know others are doing this... It is an old tactic, he has them scared they strike in hopes it won't really be viewed as much...

It's not usually the artist doing the strike. The places where you'd post bits of copyrighted work have algorithms to suss out copyright infringement. There doesn't seem to be a lot of judgment about whether its fair use, or whether the user has permission.

It's no small achievement for a young, contemporary, indy rap artist to bring so many middle aged cynical blokes to tears and hit us in the feels.

That's because us middle aged blokes generally don't have the language to express this but so many of us probably struggle with mental health to some degree. Too many years of being told to man-up taking its toll.

So fucking happy Ren is finally getting his flowers. Been listening to him for years and he’s one of the most creative, talented, and most importantly, strong willed artists I’ve ever seen. If I could wish success and happiness for one artist, it’s our Ren.

We all need to protect Ren. He is a lyrical genius. I am super proud of him flying the flag for us all here in North Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I've also been ill with Lyme Disease for half my life. Its not talked about nearly enough for how severe it is. Thank you Ren 💚

Seriously you feel this is good advise , that people with this disease haven’t researched every thing themself. 7 years and you come up with apple cider vinegar and bicarbonate. How condescending. No I won’t say ahh he tried. No you are that unhelpful person who tells someone just to pull themselves together. ALL autoimmune diseases are severe and life threatening, and are not cured, nor helped by apple cider vinegar and bicarbonate. Most people with auto immune diseases live extremely healthy lifestyles , it’s their own body that is destroying themselves. You are treated someone who has just told you how ill they have been for 7 years and you recommend apple cider and bicarbonate of soda. You are NOT being helpful you are being condescending rude and need serious lessons in listening.

9 months ago, this video introduced me to Ren and today I am celebrating his album Sick Boi hitting #1 in the UK charts while waiting for my vinyl copies of the album to arrive. I wonder what the next 9 month will bring. Thank you for getting me started on the wonderful musical and emotional journey that is Ren!

Haven't been blown away by an artist in years. But I don't think I've actually ever been grabbed so quickly by anyone before. All of his stories, songs, one take videos are just amazing. I was sad to read about his current struggles, while looking to see if he is touring. Hope he gets well speedily as he will be in demand. Excited to see him explode into everyone's life. Something special here and I think he will be legend from now far into the future. Love seeing us older lot being excited too. It's so rare. He is not like anyone else. Truly unique.

This was exactly the reaction I had when I first heard it. Absolute awe. It’s just inspiring, disturbing and truly enlightening. I love how unapologetically raw it is, but yet so well thought out and performed with so much style and believability. A monumentally important piece of work.

Those of us who have been privileged to watch Ren over the years in Brighton already know he is brilliant but it’s so lovely to watch everyone else coming on board.

It's like a filter, and the size of the sieve is determined by the skill of the owner. (I'm not a poet, perhaps you can tell...)

The thing with Ren is that because he doesn't write for commercial success but does it purely from the heart on topics and themes that are deeply personal or reflect subjects that are already difficult to confront like in Jenny's Tale, it becomes impossible to categorise and critique. Contemporary, poetic and hard hitting. I'm so glad he's finally getting the recognition he so deserves.

A massive thanks again Justin for widening our musical minds and introducing Ren. I am a musician and I watched this and was so moved and stunned, I then watched every other video he has on YT, OMG you challenge him to top this, but this is his standard, this is normal for him, watch the rest they're completely amazing. This is not normally my kind of thing, but you can't turn them off they are so captivating.

At first I was like “WTF, man I dunno…." Then I got about a minute in and fell in love with this song. New music doesn’t often give me chills (I’m old) but by the end , this did it.

For anyone who was not around the first time the Beatles or Bowie hit the scene - this is what it felt like. Ren, like the other genius before him ( and I do not use that word lightly ) will, I pray, always stay grounded and not allow anyone to squander or take advantage of his huge gift. His health must come first and his growing fans hopfully will honor and realize this so that he can share himself with us at his own pace. Like Vincent Van Gogh, Oscar Wilde, Egon Shiele, Amy Winehouse, the list goes on and on .... the audience - which is US, must learn to take care of our artists. They are a gift to humanity, our humanity. May Ren live an long, full, productive and prosperous life, sharing his talent when it suits him and in the way in which it suits him. His coming on the world stage after Covid is part of our global healing - letting us all know how tender life can be.

Well done Justin. I'm 63 and have been an avid listener of the awesome Ren and his bandmates in the Big Push for a few years. This guy's work is incredible. He's an extraordinarily inventive and accomplished musician and should be knocking the door down in the higher echelons of the music industry. Ive watched several reaction videos as well as the original video so many times.... but I never fail to get a shiver go down my spine and tears in my eyes when Ren goes into full singing voice in the final part of the song. This song has no boundaries, it cannot be shoehorned into a genre... it is poetry, music and theater all in one tortured and beautiful package.

Ren popped up on my KZread two weeks ago, I was gobsmacked when I listened to it, never heard anything like it in my life, listen to him everyday since,and his other songs and collaborations. I’m glad you gave him airtime and seal of approval Justin, as well as the other reviewers, all seem to have the same reaction as you, me and all the others who’ve heard him.

I have never been so moved by a performance. That whole video is amazing. And that he does it live is just insane. Such an intense and inspiring thing to watch.

So happy you covered this. I was one of the many that requested you looked at Ren and 'Hi Ren' in particular. It's a stunning piece of art, by someone who is unafraid to try his hand at all genres. Easily takes the place of my favourite artist in 2022.

I love how you are about the only reactor, that actually puts on about "bonus", you are not only of my top five vocalists, just a wonderful down to earth chap.

I heard a shorter version of this on the recommendation of a friend before Christmas and only heard the full version today. Its astonishing. Brings tears to my eyes.

Thanks Justin, and thanks Ren. So many of our mid 20 to 30 yr olds with chronic illness are treated as *ficticious* until one doctor puts the pieces together and gives a diagnosis that means understanding and acceptance of the symptoms and struggles and maybe, if lucky treatment as there is little hope for a cure for what ails them. The years of mismanagment leaves deep invisible scars that hide in dark corners and whisper damaging words. Sometimes Art is the only solace or outlet. So keep supporting the brave bards and if they are damaged dont ask them to be perfect or be healed, Listen and Learn and accept as you just did . Thank you

When Justin can’t even speak, you know that you’ve made something special. Ren, you are truly amazing and as a disabled person myself, your music speaks to me on a deeper level.

Ren is just pure genius. Have been following him since stumbling across him and Sam Tompkins singing "Blind eyed" few years ago. Seen him live with his band The Big Push in March 2020, awesome . He is a singer, rapper, musician, beat boxer, poet, storyteller, philosopher, all whilst battling an autoimmune disorder. Glad the music industry haven't got their claws into him so he can continue being his authentic self

I was thinking exactly the same thing. There is Nothing else like these 2 songs in the world of Music. It only took 48 years for the Next Biggest Musical/Lyrical and this time Spiritual/Philosophical FKN WOW to turn up. My eyes get wet EVERY time i watch this. Id have to Add Wuthering Heights into this as well. If an Alien wanted the top 3 songs under 10 min of the last 100 years - this is what id give them. Songs fifteen min and over are another list .

I’ve been watching this since it arrived and catching up on REN’s amazing body of work. This is obliterating art. The last time I was this moved by any music or musician was the first time I heard Jeff Buckley sing Hallelujah. Every once in a very long while you experience the fortified nectar of acute pain and extant pleasure alchemising to create art that moves us from deep inside of ourselves. Your expression has moved me beyond belief Ren. To be a student to this level of psychotic exercise who stands up and finds his balance and transcends it to such a expression is testament to the amazing life force you have in you. You are having a potent experience. Thank you for sharing it. I literally cannot wait to see where you take your amazing talent. I’ve recently come out the back end of a very challenging period following a cataclysmic event in my experience. Your spoken words at the end of this go off like an atom bomb for me. Could not be prouder of you.

Hi Ren is a masterpiece of performance art. It’s a fusion of singing, acting and musical arrangements with some beautiful cinematography and film directing thrown in. The subject is completely 🔥 and as we all now know, completely from REN’s heart and his own painful struggles in life. Completely gobsmacking. I love Ren and what he does!

Ren was in an amazing brighton street cover band called The Big Push. Definitely worth watching their stuff on here too. A talented bunch of guys.

With over 40 years of complete and total immersion in music, I'm not sure I've ever heard anything that has so completely astonished me and left me in grateful tears by the ending. Ever. Not only a musical performance but a dramatic performance pushing into what can only be called performance art in my opinion. One of the new breed of old style singers/ musicians/song writers/performers that bring it all together into a musical event rather than just 'listen mum, I wrote a song.' What a wow.

I'm so happy you've found Ren, he's an amazing young man, I've been watching him on KZread for over a year, and I'm an old woman. He's got so much talent inside him, he can sing anything, he's the only person I can listen to rapping😁

"What did I just watch?" - was my first thought. I sat back and realized I'd never seen anything quite like this before....and it was performed live. It's difficult to convey just how hard this must be to perform. Then I learned that this is normal for him. He has many one-take, single camera, "performances" - I won't say "song", because these are more than that....like you say.

I'm so glad you've given Ren a listen...Hes such a talented lad.. his music really does hit hard

Seems like the world is being split in two, those who are 'moved' by 'Hi Ren' and those who are not. All I know is that I can't stop listening to and thinking about this 'performance'. I think if I'd gone to see a play and this performance was in it, then it would have blown the roof off simply because it would have touched/affected/moved everyone in the theatre at the same time with the same emotions.

@Eva_L It's more of a performance with elements of a song in my opinion. It's an experience. I also don't feel it's random at all. It's very specifically meant to show what it's like to battle with your inner demons. The delivery is bipolar and chaotic on purpose, but the experience Ren is trying to share is coherent. I'm sorry it didn't resonate with you. I personally haven't heard something this impressive in a long time. Maybe not ever. It's so unique I don't even feel like I have the right words to describe how strongly I was impacted by this song.

I saw the video again, and I have to say that if you see/listen to it once as such a performance, as an experience, then it is more interesting. But it certainly is not what I would have on my playlist as a song to listen to.

I’ve never seen anything like this before, but glad I have now. To think he suffers a chronic illness and has this much talent is just unreal. He was clearly born to do this. Amazing!

Ren breaks those musical barriers down. His retake of Bittersweet Symphony and Right Here Right Now are fantastic takes on where society has changed

Hope is so very important to have for either a person with mental illness or someone that loves someone suffering from it.

I’m 61 and being hit by numerous songs but this is a very special one for me and my friend inside of me.

Can I just say peace to everyone touched by REN “s performance,I saw it a few weeks ago and had a little cry too

It’s painful isn’t it - I think the problem you’ve just come face to face with, is that we’re all human beings, just that some of us are a little more pedestrian humans than others.

Bloody love Ren and the much missed The Big Push. Hope that 2023 brings him the recognition he so richly deserves.

It changes you. Ren bared his soul. I cried when I saw it first, both for his pain, and for the beauty of his art.

I am a failed rock singer and know real talent when I see it. I found this band called "The Big Push" about a year ago. I thought they were awesome and all talented. Just today I found this song and am blown away! This young man is insanely talented. This song touched me, not to where I have to call the police but just connect with a lot of this song.

So glad you're covering Ren, he's awesome.

After watching Ren in the film Unrest I've been hooked on Ren. He shares the experiences of so many of us in amazing ways.

The opening guitar playing always reminds me of some witcheresk age where folks killed each other with swords, and there was the one man who played an instrument and sang about the deaths and conquests of battle. It's medieval of sorts for me (rather than flamenco), but equally, I love how everyone interrupts it differently

Thank you Justin for bringing this incredibly talented artist to light, he really deserves recognition for the hard work he's put in over the last few years whilst being unwell physically and mentally. He's been my favourite artist since watching him and Sam Tompkins busking together a few years back.

Ren is very talented, and the band he was with the Big Push are an incredibly talented group of musicians.

Wow, this although musical, is like performance art. Beautifully introspective, yet interesting commentary on psychology and the human mind. Ren leads us on a powerful thought-provoking journey. Pretty exciting to witness!

The power of music and words...why am I surprised?. Yet another level of expression that speaks to us in such a beautiful, brutal, sensuous, evocative and powerful way. Unless presented like this we would not listen. What a gift. And I thank you Justin for pointing me there or I would not have discovered this...the definition of 'talent' right there. I'm older, late 60's, and brought up on the iconic 60's but love most music, have no particular love of 'rap' as such BUT this is gripping, riveting, creation in full spectacular show..

Been a REN fan for ages……….absolute genius….after watching HI REN ….totally gobsmacked……..this piece of work is biblical
