With a computer control system this would be a very feasible aircraft now a days

The F-35 has a wonderful system. The landing maneuvers are tight and precise. The evolution of the technology has been remarkable. I was unfamiliar with XV-5A. Those early day were critical to the growth into the current systems. I would ask if the program have been shelved by Ryan Aeronautical. I have been studying VTOL systems going on 2 years now. I have an idea, but I need to learn a lot more, but it is fun, looking at he math of thrust and loads, cords and mac, it is all new to me but I don't want to lose the forest for the tree. You want to hear something funny, I heard in the video, I cannot think of the covering. only the framework and engines placements. It really neat because, there is nothing new to be invented It's all a matter of mathematics and design engineering. Unlike the XV-5A, I envision a V-tail! Foremost I think of safety. In Formula One racing, the driver's sit in carbon fibre monocaques, which massively reduces injuries when there is a high speed crash, I think there should be a similar system in cockpits and cabins. The materials available for building are incredible, depending on your use, you have a choice of lightweight materials to build with. There is a critical need as aircraft landing space, it is at a premium for convention aircraft to have somewhere to land, as there are so many planes, in the sky at any one time. Excuse my verbosity, as you can imagine there are few that I can talk to about aeronautics, let alone aircraft with VTOL. Good Day!

The simulator looks like it’s based on a camera swing over a model of the terrain with the resulting picture on the screen. That’s not computer generated imagery but a model with the pilot controlling the camera. That’s why he turns so much. The edge of the simulated area look to have vertical art that looks to be terrain extending into the distance.

That's an interesting observation; I was wondering about the computer graphics myself. I'm sure you are correct. It would be fun to design and build a system like this; too bad we went digital with everything. Thanks for the insight.

Definitely a terrain map, but it was accurate, because simulators used this method until we went digital in the early 80s

It glides on it's wings or lands on it's reinforced legs. Most aircraft like this don't take off with full fuel, they refuel in air.

You go conventional flight. The harrier was the same, as well if the mid engine goes out on the F35
