F-14D Tomcat US Navy Carrier Based Fighter, from VF-31 Tomcatters Fighter Squadron, Santa Cat 2002

VF-31 now known as VFA-31 or Strike Fighter Squadron 31 is known as the Tomcatters, callsign "Felix", a United States Navy strike fighter squadron stationed at Naval Air Station Oceana currently flying the F/A-18E Super Hornet. The Tomcatters are the second oldest Navy Fighter Attack squadron operating today
In 2002 VF-31 was onboard the USS Abraham Lincoln and heading home from Operation Enduring Freedom when they were ordered back to take part in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Like many squadrons that were deployed over the Christmas season they painted an aircraft with a Santa theme so F-14D 164601 was chosen. Felix The Cat was painted on the tail wearing a small Santa hat still carrying his fused bomb.
In regard to use of factual unit symbols and/or insignia. I use these out of complete respect. If anyone finds they are misused in my videos, please let me know and I will remove immediately. I have the utmost respect and admiration to those who have served and still serve with their respective armed forces to protect freedom and world peace.
And this aircraft is the subject of this video. Produced by Century Wings in 1:72 diecast it is a fantastic representation of that aircraft. With a limited 800 pieces made makes this a must have for any Tomcat collector.
Thank you as usual for checking out our video, we appreciate it immensely. I hope you found it helpful in some way and if so please throw us a like or even subscribe if you wish to be kept up to date with our latest releases ‪@heavymetaldiecast‬
Thanks again and have a great rest of your day.
Cheers

Mate your a legend!! Thank you so much for sharing that with me. I always feel privileged when current and ex service people take the time to watch and comment on my videos. So lucky to see this bird in the metal!! I doubt I will ever see an F-14 in real life before I move on to Valhalla, haha. I'm not religious but Valhalla seems to be the coolest place to end up!! I hit 50 and that's when I decided to start the KZread channel, haha. My head feels young, but my body does not, haha and you realise how bloody quick time gets away from you. Its why I'm pumping out the videos, haha You never know when your numbers up!! I have done videos on aircraft from VAQ-133, VAQ-136, VAQ-140 and VAQ-141 and have a VAQ-132 and VAQ-142 aircraft to still review...I will be trying hard to get my hands on a Cougar bird!! Thanks again for taking the time to check out the video!!! I really appreciate it. 👍🫡

Do you prefer Century Wings over Hobbymaster for their Tomcats? I'm having a hard time deciding which one I like best...

Thats pretty hard, both builds are really great quality. CW are probably a little dearer and may have a couple of little extras, like swappable engine exhausts and maybe some minor extra detail. Also usually have a limited card too if your into the limited numbers thing 🙂HM obviously a fraction cheaper. In my opinion it would come down to the livery your after first. Once you find a nice livery then see which maker hopefully produces it. And also comes down to the dollars as well. The only thing that would make me prefer CW over HM is the numbered card for your model....haha Im a limited numbers kind of guy...makes me feel special,haha...and also helps you work out how rare the model actually is. I dont know off hand how many models HM does on each of there releases....so to me they seem less exclusive...but again its just me. If none of that factor in, just get the one that's the cheapest that your like. Both builds are fantastic, and you won't regret either in my opinion. Hope that helps, haha
