F-14 versus Everything (with soundtrack)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Same as the other "F-14 versus Everything" video I uploaded a few months back, but with music. First half is 80s hair band (during the F-14's heyday) and then some newer music for the second half. Also added footage of a shorter range Phoenix missile shoot and some other footage. Here's the original video's description:
"F-14 takes on, in order of appearance, the F-16, MiG-21, MiG-29, F/A-18, Mirage-2000, F-15, MiG-23, vulture and moose. All gun camera footage is from F-14 aircraft HUD and TCS.
This is what happens when I have nothing to do on my day off. I was too lazy to put it to music, so it's basically a silent film with exception to a couple parts.
All gun camera footage is from F-14A/B/D HUDs or TCSs during DACT and has been released to the public through squadrons' cruise videos.
I stuck a bunch of random clips of the F-14 and "opposing" aircraft in between the gun camera footage to make it more fun and exciting. Pretty much all the footage came from KZread. The vulture and moose was likely not DACT."

At 3:11 you see the F-14 running the F-18 out of energy and coming down inverted from a vertical climb where the F-18 ran out of steam and had to point the nose down. Exactly the same way F-14D wins dog fight against the F5E in "Speed and Angels" movie. Phenomenal stuff!

I had the pleasure of seeing Snort fly several airshow demos back in the mid 90's, simply amazing! Including seeing him do the very tight formation flight w/aerobatics, him in the F-14 and in formation with an F7F Tigercat, 1996 Daytona Beach airshow. I have photos of it. Would have loved to seen it again when I was older and new how exactly how special that was.

No. My squadron's aircrews (VF-21) with the F-4S around 1981, handed the tomcat boys their butts at nellis and fallon. Simply because the A birds were under restricted flight envelope. At that time compressor stall incidents were seeing tomcats dropping out of the sky about once a month. The S was the last version of the phantom, with slats on the leading edges that allowed turn rates similart to the tomcat. Unfortunately it also meant high trap speeds making it unsuitable for the two midway class carriers still deploying with phantoms. We scratched one airframe and damaged another (mainmount through the wing) during carquals, and had to give them to the reserves at Miramar. We got 12 N birds from mothballs for the last cruise before 21 transitioned to tomcats. All things equal of course tomcat was the superior airframe, but our aircrews wore the phantom like an old shoe, with confidence, and the phantom has a drag chute to recover from a flat spin. The TF-30 was just scary. (I was a fire control tech on J, S and N phantoms and plane captain on the S.) FTN forever...

They were retired because: High maintenance cost. Unrepairable stress cracks in the ti backbone assembly of over half the remaining airframes. Those birds were under restricted flight envelope and even so subjected to regular magnaflux NDI. Even back in 1983 when my squadron VF-21 shared hangar 1 at miramar (the very floor where "classroom" scenes were filmed for Topgun movie) with VF-1, we had to fight them for hangar space as they constantly inspected those airframes for cracks around the wing folding mechanism and landing gear. Each time took several days, with the AMS and AMH shops working round the clock. The public has this high regard for the phantom as do its aircrews. For those involved with maintenance, or the congressional budgeting of same, they were a nightmare. Since the A birds had that horrible engine and as they aged they couldnt be fully utilized, for perhaps ten years at best the Tomcat was what people think it was. About 1986 on.

Anyone can cherry-pick HUD footage after an exercise to make their bird look great, which is the norm. Notice how they don't show any HUD footage of the F-16. A big challenge for the MiG-29 was understanding what was going on in front of him with limited pilot-radar interface, and the poor nature of the IRST. A Tomcat flight would simply wreck MiG-29s, provided the Tomcat drivers and RIOs were experienced enough to gel together and manage the Long Range Joust converting to near-visual range. As long as more experienced crews were in the seat in the WVR against MiG-29, they would do well, but then had to face the Helmet-cued Archer R-73, which was one of the only things that actually worked well in the weapons suite for the Fulcrum.

Seems strange that they would do that, since they have specific checklists and flags to pull from the weapons. AIM-54s were stored in sealed and padded containers, very expensive. The gunsight looks so much more stable and predictable than heatblurs version in dcs F14B. Gunsight in dcs F14 is all over the place. Overall for bfm dcs f14b in its current build flight characteristics to me seem pretty all over the place. It's like if manic depresssive bipolar mania was a flight model. Completely different, little to no consistency highly volatile will kill me or get me killed with wrong control input, except situationally/regime-wise there seems to never be correct control input will never give me what I need from it when it really counts, which is funny bc it didn't seem to be that way to me when dcs F14B was my main pvp bfm squeeze during covid lockdown. Thing feels completely different now, dcs f14 is so wretched compared to F15,16,18, su27, m2k performance-wise in pvp bfm, if I wanna fly it and have good chance of winning, I'm confined to single player bfm vs AI

Equal drivers? You sure about that? Apparently you'r not aware that in the old days, F14A *WITH* equal drivers *HAD* floored both F15 & F16 in their A model. Where do you think the slogan of 'Anytime Baby' came from? Remember the story when the '16's pilot commenting that his airplane suddenly "stop turning" in a radius fight against some random tomcat's pilot? (Only found out during debrief, that his '16 stop turning, because it lose energy faster than the '14, allowing the '14 to 'just a walk in park' to get into his six) or when the '15 pilots repeatedly made the same mistakes for different reason w/ the former? And, no, they'r just regular '14 pilots, not the legend like Snort, Hoser, etc. Even after they devised a "proper" new tactic, it still fruitless, until they both obtained the C model, that "equal pilot" able to enjoy superiority of their new machine by utilizing the tactic, over the '14 while it still in its old A model.
