R41 + TOBS + Astra SP is the best shave I've ever had

The R41 is still the only razor that nicks even after all years I've been de shaving.

I saw the weeper on the neck. I think that's the first time I've ever seen you get cut. I thought you were impervious to nicks or something!

The Muhle R41 GS quicly became my favourite razor. Since I bought it last february, I did not used my other safety razors anymore. And that even includes the Rex Ambassador.

Thanks for the video! I started with my first DE a couple of months ago, an R89, and recently bought the R41 head. I’m currently trying a Bic chrome platinum blade with it. So far so good. I have a tough beard and sensitive skin, so a more aggressive razor works for me. By the way, I think we need a better word than ‘aggressive’ as it might put people off buying them, it did for me anyway, maybe calling them ‘more efficient’ would be helpful. Cheers!

I have a brand new R41, but i've purchased an R89 top plate, which reveals significantly more blade the the original R41 top plate and delivers more efficient shaving. In fact, original R41 is very unpleasant for the first pass if i shave 2+ days beard. For across and against the grain is almost, if not, pleasant. With R89 top plate, razor is useable even for the first pass, but i use usually mich milder Boker low profile for that. Then i repeat "first" pass with R89 top plate. Accross and ATG i do with original R41.

I was at the medical lab this morning getting blood drawn for an upcoming drs appointment, there were several phlebotomist in the room drawing blood from several patients, my phlebotomist dropped one of my vials, I shouted “Man Down”, the room erupted in laughter!

Great shave Geo, some of my favorite gear, especially the zebra brush, my hands down favorite, wasn’t able to pinpoint the weeper, maybe on the right side of your chin under the lip, hope you’re having a great day!

Shaved my head with one 3 hours ago and it's effortless. Use NO pressure, let it skim over your skin else it will bite you! My face gets the time and effort of a straight razor shave, because i'm worth it! T

I will say that I just tried the Henson al13 double edged safety razor for the first time with the proraso sensitive skin lineup. I’ve been using an electric shaver for years, and I wanted to try something different and see if I could get rid of some annoying shaving bumps that I’d get from the electric shaver. I am simply just not used to shaving with a razor on my face, and needless to say, I kind of failed my first time lol. I think I missed some steps, I got a little cut on my neck, I missed a few spots, and I didn’t know how much pressure to use. I think I’m going to stick with it and see what happens, but the first time was definitely a learning experience to say the least

Hi Geo, Maybe you could do a video where you talk about the 2011 Muhle R41 and the current R41. Of course you know that the new R41 has lost most of its aggressiveness due to the modifications to the top cap and the safety bar. I broke my 2012 Muhle R41, bought a new one and I noticed the difference immediately. I miss my old R41, it was the greatest razor. Thank you. Cheers!

Did you change you name to Nick? That would have been too easy of a find, but it was bleeding through at the beginning of the second pass and you did go back to it with the alum. I call this Monday morning shave, after having taken the weekend off. Subjectively, my impression is that the R41 gives a closer shave with 2-3 days growth compared to the daily shaving. I cannot find the logic in it though, since why would a second pass be needed, or even a 3rd BBS? To get the R41 clean, I try to hold it as low in the sink as possible, so not only the speed of the water coming out of the tap, but the increase in speed as it falls. I hold the razor down, to try and blow things back out the front. Helps to get the residue closer to the drain also, and hot water works better than cold. Another great video as always.

@geofatboy can u do a review on the vivitar double edge razor it come with bland and travel case! cuse everytume I cuse it on the neck I always seem to cut my self

It depends how often you shave and how coarse your beard is? I shave every 4 days and i use R41 and Feather and 1 blade lasts 5 passes for me. On 6th pass i'm starting to fell discomfort. So yea around 2-3 shaves with one blade.

When I see the soap under the nose, it looks like a big, white moustache. And it makes you look like Hercule Poirot.

So can we say that r41 is your best one? Also what do u think that about my theory? For sensitive skins r41 could be good because u shave one pass(so less irritating the skin)instead of 2 or 3 pass? I have sensitive skin and a very heavy beard. I shave 6-7 times a week with R41, feather blade, and shaving oil only. Great shave and no irritation!

Exactly! I think part of the problem is calling razors ‘aggressive’ as it certainly put me off buying one. Whereas, in fact, the R41 was the razor I needed for my strong beard/sensitive skin, for the reasons you stated above👍

Totally agree with the comments.. I have sensitive skin but course beard.. for that reason only shave every 2-3 days but with the R41 or 37c slant and which are “aggressive” razors but are the smoothest/ best shaved I’ve ever had

is it possible to get baby smooth with every shave? i feel like if im shaving everyday i cant get the bby smoothness only if i let the beard grow for couple of days.

Try a 3 pass shave with buffing technique with a Gillette Tech (very mild), a slick soap and a rich, thick aftershave cream (body butter is excellent!)

I don't have a R41 but I do have a DS Cosmetics ZO razor. It's about the same according to Badger and Blade. With a Feather Blade I find that I have to be very careful to get a weeper free shave. Any suggestions other than using a milder blade? I do use a Perma Sharp occasionally and Personna Comfort Coat I guess my favorite is the Nacet. It's a great razor. I should go ahead and buy a Muhle R41 I suppose. Which is more aggressive? Varying opinions I've found.

I've never heard of that razor so I can't really comment on a comparison...

That's nothing, I had a Voshkod blade inside my Rockwell 6S and was ready for my evening shave - wet razor, brush and all but something urgent came up so I had to leave everything as it was. I came to it after 12+ hours and the blade inside the razor was completely rusted!!!! 😝 The Rockwell on the other hand... absolutely NOTHING!!!!

My R41 is tugging a lot. I placed a shim under the topcap on top of the razor and it’s a bit better, but still I don’t use it. My rocca is favorite by far

Have you ever tried any single edge razors using thicker Feather Artist Club blades? Those seem to plow through coarse beard growth, while DE razors (when beginning a shave) seem to tear through coarse beard growth, though an aggressive DE razor could be very useful at later stages of a shave.

@@borbetomagus oh yes, I have a shavette that shaves nice as well. It’s just the R41 that is tugging. The R89 is not effective enough for me. The Rocca is a great razor

Try a MUHLE stainless blade in your R41 … very smooth combo @@emielsmalbil6904

All and all, doesn't seem like a very comfy razor at all
