This bin works great, it was created as a smaller mobile version of my plywood bin. I use it mostly for my large larva so they can crawl out easily. The other great thing about this one is that it can be cleaned out and sterilized. Sometime with the outside bins they will get mites that will irritate the larvae and then the flies will stop laying eggs in that area. This bin can be cleaned out and started over without any problems from the last colony.

In response to how do the flies come in to lay eggs, at the 1 minute mark I am tipping the bin forward and in that view you can see a two divots in the bin next to the handles, that is where the flies can enter back into the bin to lay eggs.

When will you have this charcoal bin for sale again? I see the green one but i wasn't sure if that would have enough capacity to feed 8 chickens from. Plz do a video on the green bin too.

I’m going to be ordering one when I’m back from vacation. I’ve seen others use cardboard to help the flies lay their eggs. How does it work with this setup?

@@NWRedworms thanks for the reply. I’m going to order one in about a week (traveling right now) and wanted to order some larvae to kick start it. What should I order to start the bin off while the bin attracts local bsf?

I just started using this bin and "farming" BSF. I'm having difficulties with too much humidity inside the bin when it's closed up completely. Do you have any suggestions on how to manage this with this bin? I live in Denver, Colorado- very dry area.

With all due respect to your design I can't see how that system would not smell bad unless you are using some king of bedding to absorb the odour created from the leachate the Soldier Flies produce. Can you enlighten me on what you use to decrease the odour? What bedding do you use? and how often do you need to refresh the bedding? And thus how many of these would you need for household waste disposal? And are you feeding your Soldier Flies with a specific type of food or any household waste be it either food waste or human waste? Thanks, V

You can hang some bundled corrugated cardboard from the inside edges. I am finding it mostly depends on the weather to keep them laying outside.

@@christianschmidt3954 It may help the larvae work better, especially if there is not enough larvae to generate their own heat.

It was really hard to track down your black soldier fly bins. I’ve spent the last two days looking. I originally found an old homesteading video from 10 years ago that had a link to a page on Amazon that says this product is no longer available on their platform. So, like I said, I’ve been scouring the internet to find your product since then. I wanted you to know, there are listings for these bins on a few scammy looking websites, btw. 😬 I don’t know how you could increase your online exposure, but, I’m just letting you know this shopper’s experience to help you guys out.

@@NWRedworms Good morning, I found this product on an old KZread video by another channel. That video had a link to an Amazon page that is defunct. After two days of searching online and KZread, I was finally able to find this video. From there I was able to find your website. Thanks! We have a few purchases to make to winterize our house and garden, so we’ve budgeted to buy one of your products in the spring. 🙂

I have to say that I am amazed by your rearing system and wanted to ask if it is somehow possible to contact you and talk to you. I have some questions and I think I can learn a lot from your experience. Cheers, Yasmin
