Absolutely incredible. I'm 29 years old. Born in '93. Been a fan of film noir for years. I love the atmosphere, yes, but it's more than that. Back then they couldnt rely on cgi or any fancy stuff to make a film interesting. So the directing and cinematography had to be good, real good. And this is perhaps one of the best examples of that I've ever seen. This film was not only incredibly well written but it was beautifully directed and shot. After seeing something like this, so original and so well-done, it really does make it so glaringly obvious how awful film production today has really gotten. Nothing is original and damn near every film has to rely on a big budget to make anything even worth seeing. The people in the 30s, 40s, and 50s had no idea how good they had it. Truly the golden age of cinema.

Edward Arnold made a very convincing blind man. He really studied the character, the moves, the attitude. And Friday was an exceptionally trained dog. There was no dull moments in the movie. Thanks CCC for this pearl!!!
Outstanding cast. Great early bit for Donna Reed. Edward Arnold is just big fun in this. It gave him a chance to act and not just be a heavy, like he usually was.
what a beautiful movie. Donna Reed brought the drama, the dog brought the action and there was sheer genius comedy randomly thrown in that truly made me laugh. Great movie.

What a great movie! The hero, a German Shepherd! Love that dog, with all his personality and spunk. Thank you for finding this and sharing it.
Dnna Reed was a real piece of work in this. Excellent acting!
Edward Arnold as I have never seen him...he is usually cast as a wealthy unscrupulous businessman....he is magnificent here.

An interesting little film. Edward Arnold is always good and plays a gumshoe with a difference. Loved the dog Friday as his sleuthing sidekick. One of Donna Reeds earliest roles and she was excellent.

A Very enjoyable crime mystery. Friday was amazing, such a smart dog. I smiled at the absolute ending.
I read the comments and noted the differences of generations. Not a comment about Allan Jenkins (Marty), Horace McNally (Gabril), - 2-character actors who mainly were typed as "bad men" and both were in dozens of movies. Also no one mentioned Rosemae De Camp (Vera), who was ubiquitous in the 1940s thru the 1950s movies and television. An uncredited actor, the young, black-haired policeman, who was thrown in the wrestling match was ??, who played the father of the daughter Dustin Hoffman wound up with in THE GRADUATE! By the 1940s, the studios had the B&W films production values perfected. The mastery of shadows was an art. I bring these observations to you from close to eight decades of life. This movie is only 2 years older than me.
