She had 21 years to chew it over in her mind, which shows how much psychological courage she had to have to go ahead with it.

@@mrkeno1000 most people would give anything to be on a shuttle. Go at throttle up isn’t an order

Since this post was first made, this woman has become not just a civilian riding along, but an accomplished astronaut. She has made her mark. Well done, Barbara!

What a wonderful courageous woman. I just watched Challenger on Netflix, & didn't realise till the end that she actually went on to become an astronaut.

she operated the robotic arm to transfer a load to the space station, she. even trained others. You all need to research first to know she was not a space tourist. She was an astronaut. Flying in space is the highest achievement for any humans stop hating and pursue the same dream.

Thats what Judy did on 41D. She also operated the mast to experiment with solar energy, we see those on the ISS now. If only she lived to see it all. Barbara is incredible, but how you mentioned they all are! Not everybody gets to do this, and not everybody would even if they could. Semper Fidelis

I had lunch at Kennedy Space Center where Barbara talked about her experiences as an astronaut. She is a great ambassador for US space travel.

I was in elementary school and they gathered all of us in the cafeteria to watch the Challenger launch and I still remember the gasps and adults crying.

There are are only a few Ladys on his world right now, I really care about... 2 of them are Christa & Barbara. Barbara is an angel to me. You are free to say whatever you want always. So I say: I WILL NEVER FOREVER RESPECT AN OPINION AGAINST PEOPLE I REALLY LOVE! And again, I am not ashamed to say I love Christa & Barbara.

I get sad when thinking about Christa. Not only did she and all the astronauts died, but for so many of them, that was their first mission. So they worked so hard and never even got to go to space. As tragic as Columbia was, they at least got to go to space. Sadly Columbia exploded during its landing.

I wonder if she went ahead with this so she could officially be the first teacher in space. Watching the documentary and old footage she really wanted to be on that shuttle. In some of the footage if you didn't know better you would have thought she was the main winner and not Christa.
