Is it possible, and safe, to treat vitreous eye floaters in people who have elevated eye pressures (IOP) and/or actual glaucoma? Usually it is. But with certain types of floaters (large dense syneresis types) combined with someone who has high elevated pressures it may not be safe. The incidence of high intraocular pressures after treatment with the YAG laser is very low, may between 2-3 patients a year and even if they need to go on eye drops for a few months, the pressure response usually resolves and everything goes back to normal baseline. Knowing advance the risk factors, the risk of this undesirable response can be reduced with good decision making based in a lot of experience.

The Floater Doctor, James H. Johnson M.D. is Medical Director of the only medical practice in the world specializing in, and exclusively treating bothersome spots, shadows, and clouds that affect your vision. Although common, especially changes such as posterior vitreous detachment (PVDs) as we age, these vitreous eye floaters are rarely offered treatment by your local and well qualified eye care providers, even at top specialty institutions. Dr. Johnson uses a specialized FDA-approved YAG laser to vaporize and destroy the proteins in the vitreous that are responsible for your spots, shadows, and moving blurred areas in your vision. He has been doing so since 2007 making him one of, if not the most experienced in this very specialty niche area in ophthalmology, a pioneer in this field.

Your work is priceless. I need your opinion. I've heard of new method of eye floaters treatment. Some newfangled, so called "nano bubbles" way to cure it. What's your opinion ?

Nano Gold particles coated with hyaluronic acid. It may be a way to make the laser more efficient which would be really nice. It would require an injection into the eye and it would not likely make the floaters in younger people more treatable as they are difficult to see and/or too close to the retina.

nice video James. Very well explained. I completely agree that elevation of the eye pressure is the most annoying problem that we are trying to avoid. Where did you find the nice white board? Must be costume made.

how do you know how far away you are from retina and lense, only with focusing or do you have a measurement method?

Hmmn. It is a few overlapping mechanisms of the optics: slit lamp beam, focusing laser beams, stereoscopic vision, narrow depth of field, dynamic movement, shadows, and a $hit-ton of experience, last estimate is over 12,000 procedures.

So the debris that migrates to the front of the eye and plugs the ducts will clear out after a few months? Thank you for the very informative videos!

Well, no not really. I think you may be referring to the tear ducts which are outside the eye. We are talking about an internal drainage system called the trabecular mesh work.

Re-formation of floaters after treatment is a thing and common to the cloudy (syneresis) type of floaters. These usually just require more treatment to vaporize and break them up.

I would be very reluctant to treat someone with high pressures like that. If if you got your pressures down with meds or procedures, it may be that your eye's natural drainage system is just not very robust and may not be able to handle the laser procedure.
