The Floater Doctor, James H. Johnson M.D. is Medical Director of the only medical practice in the world specializing in, and exclusively treating bothersome spots, shadows, and clouds that affect your vision. Although common, especially changes such as posterior vitreous detachment (PVDs) as we age, these vitreous eye floaters are rarely offered treatment by your local and well qualified eye care providers, even at top specialty institutions. Dr. Johnson uses a specialized FDA-approved YAG laser to vaporize and destroy the proteins in the vitreous that are responsible for your spots, shadows, and moving blurred areas in your vision. He has been doing so since 2007 making him one of, if not the most experienced in this very specialty niche area in ophthalmology, a pioneer in this field.

Does the laser create holes in the posterior of the capsular bag?

That is what the laser is most often used for, but the laser has to be very precisely focused on the capsule to affect the capsule. So in my hands, it would not.

I had cataract surgery of the right eye two weeks ago and developed floaters the day after. One floater is "cloud" like in appearance and is constantly there. I am scheduled for my left eye surgery in three days. I am really scared the same thing may happen. It has really taken the joy of having clear vision away. I am in NC and would not be able to go to California for treatment. Dr do you have suggestions for physicians who may do this procedure in my area? I am just outside of Charlotte, NC. Thank you.

I am in Texas now. Floaters/Posterior Vitreous Detachments can occurs after even perfectly-performed cataract procedures. It is not uncommon, but probably not written out specifically in the doctor's informed consent form for cataract surgery, but falls into the category of "Other stuff can happen. Recommendations for a local doctor? Sorry I can not. I believe this is such a very specific skill set that it is not enough to be a competent surgeon and own a YAG laser. There are just a very few of us - 3 in the US.

I want to ask, is it safe for IOL to do laser treatment of floaters (can doing it damage IOL)?

No, the laser passes right through the plastic lens replacements without changing the clarity or optical power. I do it all the time.

I produce my own videos, edit them, do not monetize them, and all just purely for educational purposes. I don't know how much time it would take me to manually type in all the words I speak in a 30 minute video. I am a high empathy person and have dedicated my career in service to others and certainly do respect the challenges you face every day. I will see if there is a way to automatically close caption, but I can't promise I'll be able to do it manually.
