Eye medications after cataract surgery, routine drops - A State of Sight

Ғылым және технология

Following standard cataract surgery, our patients use three eye medications including an antibiotic, a steroid, and an anti-inflammatory.
2017 UPDATE: Now we have three medications available in one bottle. This has been much more convenient for our patients, our referral doctors, and us!
Watch this episode of A State of Sight to learn more about the standard regimen that our cataract patients are using after surgery in 2016.

Don't know what was recommended three years ago or ten years ago. Only know I had my surgery in November 2018. The surgeon discussed the types of lens I could chose and what was expected pre op and then what to be done the day of surgery the following day and the days and weeks following the surgery. I was nearsighted and now am able to see far but need reading glasses to do close up work and am still recovering. I see much better and see colors and find my vision is much better. There are some flashes of light which was told would clear up in time, if not I suppose some extra medication or maybe surgery might be needed. In any event I am seeing better and look forward for a full recovery.

I too will need reading glasses after surgery for things like looking at my phone. i don't need them now, I hope seeing things like money or people's faces isn't too difficult after surgery

I have RA and I am on a 5mg/morning dose of prednisone. Also, I have a bottle of prednisone eye drops that I hesitate to use because of your expert advice. Headin' back to the ophthalmologist. TY.

My mom had cataract surgery on Monday, March 11, 2019 I gave her the drops like instructed. We saw the doctor today and like you said no more gray top after runs out. But the prednisolone acetate ophthalmic suspension 1%, was every 2 hours was reduced to 4 times a day about every 4 hour. Our next appointment isn't until June 25th. and I have one refill on prednisolone acetate ophthalmic suspension 1%. How long am I suppose to keep giving my mother these drops?

I'm having posterior cataract surgury in two weeks, the more complicated surgury requiring more stitches, and opted for the multifocal lense I'm already on steriod inhalers for COPD and wondering with the post op antibiotics and additional steroids on top of the my existing steriods, should I take probiotics in addition to the antibiotics before the surgury and after. Last time I had antibiotics I ended up developing thrush.

Is it normal once on the steroid 2 a day that you feel the gritty feeling in your eye?

Thanks for sharing your experience. After complex cataract surgery and a second procedure to remove lens fragments, it can take a month or two for the eye to heal. I hope it improves for you!
