    When I first heard "The Way", I remembered thinking that part of the lyrics where it goes "they won't make it home, but they really don't care, they wanted the highway, they're happier there today" seemed so weird. That's when I looked up what the lyrics were about and the song took on a whole different meaning to me at that point. I still feel like it's a happy song, even after you realize the darkness surrounding it, it's still a charming song about an elderly couple at the end of their lives that set out to take a trip on their own terms.

    " Slowed down or stopped 12 different times." Thats going to drain the air reserves of a tractor trailers braking system, and TECHINicall, emergency braking should then come on, BUT, if it comes in at a high speed, and locks, Youre going to get whats described as happened. Heres my take: That white van was 'harassing' Juans families truck, to incite this for some reason...

  • @MikeMandrill

    @MikeMandrill

    Dad definitely was into some shady business, wether it was drug related or not (truckers are known to take drugs to go through long shifts). That sudden "let's go across the country on vacation in my tank truck" is weird in itself. Sounds like dad was running away from something and taking his family with him to protect them. Whoever was after him ended up catching up. As to the kid, I dont see how he would have survived if both his parents died. The only thing that comes to my mind is organ trafficking...

    @@MikeMandrillDon’t forget that emergency services couldn’t go near the truck for hours, so they could’ve actually been alive upon impact and succumbed to their injuries or just breathing in the acid fumes while unconscious. If they did actually take Juan and the family was still alive, then he would’ve been away from the fumes and could’ve gotten any injuries treated.

    Thank you for talking about depression after transitioning from the military to civilian life as I served for 18 years with a tour of Iraq (Royal Australian Air Force). For many years my depression got so bad that I couldn’t function however with the help from friends, family and DVA I started seeing a Psychiatrist. I had suppressed many disturbing memories regarding my operational deployment and it took one very special Psychiatrist a matter of only 3 sessions to draw those memories out into the open. Once we knew what I was dealing with he decided that cognitive therapy wasn’t working and we started rebuilding my life from the ground up and haven’t looked back…he literally saved my life. Now I can tell war stories without rehashing the awful stuff…just the good memories. Since then I have also used my experience to help others including a wonderful man that served in the US Army in Afghanistan. Thank you for your service MrBallen 🙏🏼🇦🇺❤️

    I remember reading about "The Way" many years ago and the band mentioned that they thought the old couple might've ran away on a romantic getaway and leaving everything behind to start a new carefree life or to escape their current one or something. So, they composed the song. Then they saw the updated news about finding their bodies. It's heartbreaking. Next time you guys listen to the song, pay close attention to the lyrics. Chilling when you know the backstory of it.

It seems like they could've found out if she put his "meat" into the food too, but didn't even bother to try to find that out. Europe frequently insults the US justice system (I'm not saying there aren't problems) but if you look at their justice system they barely sentence these ppl (take a look at the UK) so they have no room to insult any other country. Their biggest complaint abt the US justice system is it's "too harsh." Really? And there's "too many." Maybe that's bc many of ours are actually sentenced to sentences they deserve. Ijs

If she was driving at night in Arkansas (ive been there i can attest) that those roads are very scary and hard to see sometimes. She may have driven off on accident but it definitely was not on purpose. If you want to see more interesting info about this I recommend watching Adeventures with Purpose. In Germany, for example, most criminals are no longer afraid of punishment because in most cases they are far too harmless or the perpetrators are not prosecuted anyway. Furthermore, our prisons are almost as comfortable as hotels. I recently saw a TV report about a German prison where the prisoners even had a PS2 in their cell. They are also allowed to smoke there, receive visits from their partners in a private room with a bed and buy cigarettes, snacks and other food in a prison supermarket...

    I love the fact that Fastball's song "The Way" was based on Leila and Raymond's story. Of course, it was a fanciful musing that was penned before the couple were found deceased. Giving the head of your murder victim to your neighbour to keep and not coming back for it is both very stupid and very strange. She could have just buried it and never have been caught. Why did she do that? Was she just stuck on giving him to the neighbours piece by piece and didn’t know how to make head cheese? Reminds me of the pig farmer in BC. They think he may have sold the meat of his victims as pork. They do call it “long pig”. By all accounts from people who know, we taste like pork.

    Seriously why did she never go back for her "toys"? That's all she had to do and she would have gotten away with it it's crazy. Smart enough to perfectly hide the rest of his body but that one simple stupid flaw is what does her in. Its crazy how so many genius killers get away with stuff and have perfect plans but then do one easily avoidable thing that ends up being their downfall

    It would be a comforting, if sad story - but I don't think it was their intention because otherwise they would've probably enjoyed a last music festival together before driving away, and according to their son they never made it to the festival. It's heartbreaking and even a little creepy, but the official theory of them not realizing they were so far from home and what was going on, until finally not even seeing the cliff and driving straight through the edge of the road, seems to be the most probable to have happened. 😢

    Yes people who have mild dementia sometimes get much worse after the sun goes down and in fact there's a name for it called "sundowning". . It's highly likely that they did get a little lost and once the sun went down they became more and more disoriented. Then when they were stopped by the police officer they felt confident that they could make it back home and the more sleep deprived they became and because it was still night they became more and more disoriented. People will be puzzled but they were so independent and clear how's mine during the day but all of us are more reliant on external cues as to where we are and what's going on then we know. It becomes more obvious as we age and become more dependent upon those cues. If you've ever been say walking in a big building like a hospital where the corridors all look alike and all of the lighting is overhead and say you've been visiting on the same floor for a while and you go down the elevator to the cafeteria and you're chatting with someone as you go so that when you get off you don't automatically step off in the direction of the cafeteria because you're not that familiar with the environment but you're preoccupied with each other so you also don't respond to the clues you've learned over the previous several days. There can be a moment if you turn the wrong direction where you have feel absolutely lost and don't even have the feeling that well we know the elevator leads down to the first floor and that's where the dining room is we just taken a wrong turn. There's just no feeling of familiarity and it's a very disorienting feeling even if it lasts only a second or two. Sundowning is like that and it is especially common in elderly people when they are going through a situation where they are ill or heavily medicated like after a surgery or when they are Delirious with fever and they are completely out of their normal context. They're in a hospital where everybody's wearing the same thing and the rooms on dinner trays and everything all look alike and you can't even see whether it's daylight or night unless you are close to the window. People will become so confused it says though they have severe Alzheimer's and they may actually hurt themselves but when the sun comes up they don't remember it and they return to themselves. I think that's what happened to the couple is that they set out during the day and something was different or something broke their routine and once they were outside they're familiar territory they became more and more lost. Then the sun went down and they were so caught up in the confusion that they didn't even notice they needed to turn their lights on. And it just went downhill from there. 500 miles is 10 hours worth of driving so they would have had to be quite lost and either very prideful not to contact their son of the police or someone or losing track of time to which is part of sundowning.

    I was thinking this was possibly the case, because they were fiercely independent, as stated by their son, and the fact that the wife had packed some clothes, made me think that they possibly thought they would take a final trip somewhere even just explore around the country and stay at motels, and just get away and live there final years Together, they may have really feared being put in a nursing home like many older seniors do and they also may have just wanted to travel to some of the places they never got to when they were younger so they may have just use this festival that they normally attended as a cover so they could leave But will never know but I hope they weren’t too frightened before they passed and I know they’re in peace together in heaven, so hopefully their son and family can take comfort and know that🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼❤️
