I owned a wooly husky for 15 wonderful and cherished years. The coat is no joke. Beautiful, but if you aren’t committed to caring for it, please don’t get one. I would brush her throughout the week, and then spend hours once a month doing a deep clean. Going slowly, respecting her boundaries, and finding the right tools was essential to both my effectiveness and her comfort. You did a lovely job on this senior fellow. Thank you for pointing out how much of a job their coat care really is.

@@himboprince surprisingly, she didn't shed as much as my German Shepherd. I do have a pretty serious vacuum cleaner, though. :) I would take my dogs outside for brushing, weather permitting, and when we were inside, I placed a sheet on the floor which caught a lot of the hair I removed. It's a fair question. A regular coated husky would likely have shed more.

That was an extremely satisfying groom...to watch. lol. Being allergic to nearly every dog breed, the amount of dander flying around made me shudder. The owners must have been delighted when they picked him up. He's absolutely stunning. I hope the poor doggo's on some kind of pain relief for his arthritis. I think he did incredibly well under the circumstances. :o)

Thanks to your videos, I have added Dog Groomer to my mental list of "Jobs I'm Glad Other People Do Because You Couldn't Pay Me Enough". The number one job on that list is Nurse. I am eternally grateful that there are people in this world who are willing to be nurses and dog groomers. Chewy stands taller and moves better thanks to your efforts.

i love how attentive you are with senior animals! from one hazard worker to another, have you considered a respirator or n95 particulate mask for blow drying? might help keep fur and dander out of your nose and mouth.

Seconded (or should that be fifthed?). You might not do a dry blowout very often but all that dander in your lungs and eyes is not good for you. Take care of yourself as well as the animals, GwtD :)

Holy cow, that pre-bath blowout is incredible to watch. I'm sure that Chewy appreciates your efforts, even if he can't articulate it.💗

Chewy already looked a lot better after that first blow out, but the final look is amazing! He looks like the softest cloud!

What a handsome boy!! Thank you so much for taking on older pets. Unfortunately, so many shops will no longer groom after 10 or 11, which for a Keeshond, our chosen breed, and many other breeds isn't very old. I love the oldsters, they have so much wisdom, experience and love to share. We lost our old girl in October and adopted a teenage Keeshond boy (10.5 months) rescued from a BYB 6 weeks ago. We were blessed to find a new groomer who went out of her way to make his first pro groom a good experience and she saved his matted, compacted and blowing teen coat - win-win! Our sweet, handsome, fun and cuddly boy now has a fan club and is their first and only Keeshond client. They're pretty rare here in NW Georgia. A good groomer is more important than a great hairstylist!!! God Bless!

As a wooly owner for 8 years now, this is one of the best grooming video's I've seen! My pup still does not like brushes, but a Kong usually buys some time. Blower's are truly crucial during shedding/molting season.

From the table to the shower he already was thinner and while drying him he looked like a puppy, so small. And that sound he made😭🥰🥰🥰🥰

Same boat as you (also with the additional bonus of allergy to a bunch of other airborne stuff) - worth us bearing in mind that a well fitted N95 or N99 respirator (or half respirator with separate eye goggles) would help A LOT when blow drying an unwashed dog. I shudder to think what's in Vanessa and cameraman's lungs!

What a sweet, old, wooly mammoth! He's absolutely beautiful, and he looks amazing after his groom. I always appreciate and respect you for how considerate you are with every animal, but especially with senior pets. You do your very best to make the process as painless and stress-free as possible.

Ahhhh! Our 11 year-old Siberian Husky is also arthritic in his senior years. Our groomer has to make similar accommodations for him, and she does a great job. So happy to see Chewy getting the good treatment!

I've never seen this breed before, Chewy is spectacular! He was so good even though he was uncomfortable. What a lovely gentleman. I love learning about new (to me) breeds and your videos are amazing with all the knowledge you impart.

He IS a Siberian Husky, just one with a coat that is undesirable, not a separate breed. Reputable breeders will try to NOT produce woollies, because of the difficulties of keeping the coat groomed so that the dog is comfortable and clean.

Wooly huskies are for when you want fleece for yarn, but simply cannot deal with or tolerate sheep. Excellent fiber production with bi-annual harvests (spring blowout and Shedtember), lots of snuggles and wonderful jogging buddy~

Guided by experience and compassion/mercy, you found the Best way forward to keep him comfortable while giving him an amazing grooming. I love how you take such great care of them. Thank you on behalf of the pets that find their way into your shop.

Really do enjoy these videos and the narration. Sometimes the looks on the adorable animal's faces speak volumes. They range from thinking their life is ending to "Ah, this is the life!" Often I am watching quite a few at a time.

Try grooming a Corgi. I have had 5 of them and all of them were hairy shedding little monsters. They all have crossed the rainbow bridge. I still miss them.

Went and got a certificate too haha but I just got introduced to your channel and I love what you do, very informative for current and future pet owners. Believe it or not, they don't get as hot as you may think. Their double coat actually helps keep them cool in the summer, as well as warm in the colder months. That is why you never should shave a husky.

I dunno, it reminds me of a woolen layer underneath a t-shirt on a summer day! lol Edit: Oh heck, I think I might've misunderstood. The comment "like him", I took to mean "overgrown undercoat like his". Not "fluffy dogs in general".

@@linseat7670 That very well could be the case if it were very matted and compacted. But in a normal situation, that undercoat protects the skin from the sun's UV rays. The coat you see on top is a coat of what are known as guard hairs, and they are what give the dog its' color. Huskys, Moots(malamutes), and others of what are called the Northern breeds are double coated, and what Vanessa was blowing out was the undercoat. Normally, Huskies blow their undercoat twice a year, as the seasons change.

He looks amazing. Stunning change from before to after. 🐾💕
