Extreme weather | Irish Sea ferry in a hurricane

Whilst on passage between #birkenhead near #liverpool in #england and #belfast #NorthernIreland we encountered #stormdebi in the #irishsea
This nasty deepening stormfront brought storm force winds of 80mph (beaufort storm force 11) with gusts considerably higher (force 12 is a hurricane).
The waves in the Irish Sea were truly mountainous with deep troughs and white crests blowing into spindrift in the high winds.

It should be stated the Stena Line ferry I was aboard (Stena Edda) departed on time and arrived on time despite the weather conditions plus, to make the journey as comfortable as possible, the ship sailed towards Dublin then headed north up the east coast of Ireland where the swell was not as high.

Met Eireann sea forecast reckoned on seas being very rough to high. They weren't far wrong!!!

It’s difficult enough to walk in 85 mph winds on land without the addition of rolling seas and ship speed.
THE IRISH SEA CAN BE SO UNFORGIVEN. At times it can be so treacherous and harsh. Have more ROUGH THAN lassie.

One of my favourite is a heavy storm on Irish Sea that lasts for about 5 mins- just the sound of the waves and weather- I play it on a loop sometimes. Storm Imogen I think.
