Irish Sea ferry in a hurricane
My timing is impeccable - the day im due to travel to Ireland Storm Debi hits. Well, it makes for a good adventure so, here's my vlog.
My journey was aboard #stenaline STENA EDDA, a large modern vessel sailing between Birkenhead near Liverpool and Belfast northern Ireland.
Winds increased quickly and considerably to violent storm force 11 (80mph winds) gusting force 12 with exceptionally high waves and swell. However, Stena Edda departed on time from England at 1030 and arrived on time in Belfast at 1830hrs.
She is a very stable vessel so if you have concerns about rough weather, don't be. To make the journey as comfortable as possible for the passengers the ship sailed west towards Dublin then up the Irish coastline to avoid the worst of the weather - normally the ship sails North West past the Isle of Man.
A blog of this great ship can be found at www.a2bviasea.co.uk
My thanks to the EXCELLENT website vesselfinder.com for the images

Great footage👏, thanks for sharing👍. I hope you'd got refund for your lunch. If not pop-up on ship's bridge(you have to ask at reception) next time and I will sort it. It was all my fault😉 as I'd been in charge on that crossing. Keep me posted for your future travels⛴ Capt. Grzegorz P. Master "Stena Edda".👋

Hi Captain Grzegorz! Thanks for watching my vlog! It was a bit rough but, Stena Edda appeared to be a very good strong ship departing and arriving on time despite the weather. I will be doing a post later on my Facebook page 'A2B via Sea' to tell all my followers how brilliant the crew were. If you could spread the word amongst your crew it would be appreciated as they deserve a huge thank you for being so fantastic! By the way, thanks for the bridge visit invite - will do next time I'm aboard 😀 Thanks. Myké, Instagram: thebearded_blogger
Great footage from your Irish sea adventure on Stena Edda. Thanks for sharing and have a good day! // Bertil.
That takes me back to my "going to the channel islands" days. I can taste the salt, thank you.

Hi. Thanks for watching!
I got caught in the back end of storm Caludio in November '22 on my way from Holyhead to Dublin, I can't say for sure if it was worse or not (probably not) as I spent the majority of the time in a toilet cubicle feeling very much worse for wear 😂 M2 buoy data from Met Eireann on that day showed >7m waves, and that's not even the (rougher?) sea nearer to Angelsey. It was also in a half-laden Stena Estrid as well, I think the crossing ended up taking 5 hours or so instead of the usual 3-and-a-bit... Definitely had some waves crashing up onto the windows on deck 7. An experience for sure 😂

@@A2BviaSeaonTV Not at all, I've since done Harwich to Hoek Van Holland return, and another Holyhead to Dublin round trip just the other week :) ferry definitely beats flying, especially when the seas are calm

Think these 2 ships are the only ones that goes to see in whatever weather as very rare Stena cancel the Liverpool services but the ships are well build for the irish sea weather.
Was the Monday 10am sailing. If it was my mate was saying it was rough 😂😂😂😂. Then again he’s a land lover 😂😂😂

Hi. Thanks for watching
I feel queasy just watching this 🤢 I crossed from Dunkirk to Rosslare during the tail end of Storm Ciaran at the start of November and it was fairly rolling too! I swear by Stugeron brand anti-seasickness travel tablets, they really work for me
