I just got back from Chengdu, I found the level of spiciness to be a bit overstated, even the spiciest options weren't all that bad. The numbing feeling is a bit different from what you get from the west though lol. Food is still great.

Worked in a factory in Changde for a few months as a Hamburg born native German. Could eat the beef when I picked all the chili - pieces out, still extreme. But they also served rice and boiled vegetables so no problem. They also prepared some beef for me without the spices, tasted like nothing so I asked them to quit that. My chinese electrician prepared some notes in chinese for me with some dishes I can order outside of the factory and also, that I want my fish in one piece not chopped.

I ate one in Sichuan where the pot has a "centre" region and a region surrounding that centre. They put spicy soup in the centre and non-spicy soup in the surrounding. The spicy soup was REALLY spicy but also tasty.

I really like to eat spicy even when I melt doing it. This looks amazing mate.

That looks so good. I make a crude homemade version of it sometimes. The spicy & numbing together make it hurt so good. Then the next morning it's even more painful.

The restaurant staff eating in the middle of the restaurant says it all about the quality and spirit. Truly amazing. In Belgium, staff lunch is hidden, even at world top 20 'star' restaurants you see the staff eating homemade sandwiches in their car on the rainy parking lot while serving 400EUR per person menu's :/

Linkador I guess it’s more of a cultural thing. This behaviour will be viewed as unprofessional in certain environments, but praised in certain environments. This restaurant is quite down to the earth. Even in China, u won’t see staffs eating among costumers in a upscale restaurant.

staff don't eat with customers neither in china, not at the same time, customer time usually be 7pm - 21pm, so staff meal at 6pm or 22pm. not the same. of course, at 22pm, u can see staff and customers eating in same lobby.

Linkador they eat sandwiches in the rainy yard and being paid 3000 eur per month while chinese staff eat in the middleof the restaurant while being paid 300euro per month. now who is happier?

Dude this meal is like 100 RMB per person which is 10 EUR so the cost is not equal.
