How can anyone dislike this video. The dude is risking his own rig, time, saftey and money to help people and not even asking for a dime. I used to tow, there's a lot of hazards to worry about, you just dont winch and go most of the time.

I love all the people's comments."I woulda this, and I woulda that. Good luck getting a backhoe out there for a couple of hundred bucks,or a water truck, and the really funny one was"have the fire department come water down the mud. When you get stuck like that, you're lucky to get anyone to come out there to help you.If it weren't for the recovery team, that truck would still be THERE! These guys work hard to help people out on the trail.hows about an atta boy for their hard work!

You see that line taking his head off or the block hitting him in the head too. I thought the same. It's the most common way of dying with using winches now. Not worth injury at all or death. Also the people around not backing off to much, I haven't heard back up, cable snaps, it will kill you or me. It will shoot out like a gun and kill someone. I hear you on that.

84moneypit you are so so right. There is so much tension on that under sized wench cable, god help the fellow if that cable does break. I saw exactly what steel cable does to the human body when they suddenly release those TONS of pressure. It was an M88 Track recovery Vehicle wench line which is If I recall correctly over a 1 inch line, while doing like these guys are, trying to pull an M60 Tank mired just like the Jeep here is. When the cable broke, there was a young soldier exactly where he should NOT have been. The cable cut him down thru his helmet all the way thru his sack leaving two halves of the lad still standing where he was. Well until the steel cable came back picking up one of his two halves, and throwing it clear over the top of the M88 spraying intestines, brain, and god knew what else all over the track recovery vehicle. To say that I will ever forget this would be a damned lie, as much as saying that I don’t think of it EVERY time I see or use my own wench . I hope that every one who reads this will likewise think about this horror every time you are anywhere near a wenching project. Be safe my fellow Jeepers, always be safe.

Great video!! I talked an inexperienced tow guy into letting me help with saftey on a pull like this. I used a 30ft tow strap,a harded chain and a dog leash. 1. Put tow strap through front side windows(drivers and passenger) of stuck vehicle. 2.feed chain between tow cable, infront of snatch block, then each end over top of both sides of bumper hooking to both ends of tow strap on each side. 3.take dog leash loop over top cable infront of weighted bag, then hook to middle of chain (adjust so chain is suspended not touching tow cable. 4. Then remove most slag by putting tow strap behind one or both front seat backs. The bumper came off the truck and this did stop it from killing anyone.

When wincing a vehicle out of the mud, best trick I've ever learned is to pound 6in pvc around the cab and tires it breaks the water lock(same concept of putting two bowls the same size together under water) the atmospheric pressure water and mud combined is amazingly powerful.

I know u said that because you had a tow truck you could use the boom to lift it etc but couldn't the tow truck also have just anchored to a tree or something and winched it backwards, the way it entered? Not trying to argue or be negative, I'm just curious.

I’m wondering if it would have helped if you called the local FD to come, then charge a line and blast some of the mud away from the tires and under the frame. It would have made a mess but could have loosened the mid a bit. It looks like an area where you’d have a Volunteer department, and those guys are always looking for things to do.

Hey easier idea os to have metal pipe that you can drive into the mud so you can let air under it. Thats part of the opposing force you were trying to overcome. Small air compressor and a pipe is all you need. I have seen it done worked pretty good to.

I agree. I wouldn't let anyone around that kind of tension. Not safe. I would have started with lifting the front end straight up, then pull it out. Not at angle. That's two fights at once. Thumbs up for your troubles. Peace

Obviously a majority of y'all don't know a thing about towing not how those coils work in that Jeep.. those are springs that just sit in a mount no bolts no hardware and they take about 10 sec to reinstall. So educate yourselves before u just start bashing on someone. This guy knows what he's doing he had obviously been doing it a long time without any issues..

You are hilarious. I'm a Tow Operator and this is just some guy that bought an old truck, thinking he knows what he's doing by watching Highway thru Hell. So many wrongs, we show this video and others like it to educate how not to abuse your equipment or look like its your first day. Even before I took courses to learn more, I knew better than to single line test something buried or wedged in someplace. His single line could pull that normally with no problem, but he's encountering much more resistance and would require at least 2 lines to overcome the force holding that vehicle in.

If I remember right, Eric is a GM Master tech. So he knows a thing or 2 about vehicles. By single line testing it, he also was resting the integrity of the recovery point. Better to have something break on a single line pull rather than under twice the force of a double line pull or more. I doubt Eric will ever claim to be a professional tow operator. He is an off-roader who enjoys helping people, and who has built an off-road wrecker to help people get off the trail when they break/get stuck on the trail. He doesn't get paid at all, and we've also seen on video him refuse offers of money from people he's helped. If you're such a great tow operator, why don't you go buy an old wrecker, build it for off-road use, and then go out and do recoveries for free. You're attitude is exactly the reason I have absolutely no use for tow truck drivers at all, you all walk around with a enormous chip on your shoulder and expect the world bow to your enormous ego.

@@ravenbarsrepairs5594, double lining reduces the working load on the line. It doesn't double it. The more lines you add to the load reduces the load on the single line. I run an offroad truck and lend my hand and personal equipment to those in need. I work the roadways with people like you blowing past and not moving over.

@Swampy, anyone experienced would see there is a far less equipment failure or breakage by pulling from the rear. Only work another angle if the pulling points aren't solid. Buried in mud. Get to shoveling. Doubling the line reduces the load placed on that line.
