Extreme Heat in the Old Swamp!!! Missouri arrowhead hunting 2024!

Ойын-сауық

Decided to head out to the old swamp to see what was laying out after the beans have been planted. Most of the stuff had already been broken but we found some artifacts.

    I’m glad you’re finding some decent relics Trey! Here in central Illinois it’s been dry, hot and the weeds in the forest are 5 feet tall! I can’t wait for fall, that and spring, less humidity and bugs. Thanks again and good luck in the future!!

    Me too. Fall and winter are my favorite times to get out. You can always put enough clothes on to stay warm. You can’t take enough clothes off to stay cool. Legally. 🤣. It’s been awful. We went camping this past weekend and tried looking for points in the river. Only found some flakes washing out of the bank.

    I hope the wind was cooling on such a hot day! Those godars look like a well made point type! And the polished broken rock looked very interesting! Nice long necked point also. Take care.

    The wind is the only reason I went out there. 😄. Those Godars are very well made. I’ve got a lot of them from that field. Most of them look like those two.😄

    Its been miserable. I've been building a two car garage on the side of a house with no trees in sight. Makes it really hard to get motivated to wonder out in the mid-day sun to look for points.😆

    As always of late I'm last to the party Trey. Glad to see you out having fun brother. It's hard to find the good stuff in fields once they have been walked to death. No til farming just breaks everything up. Glad you rescued what you did. Hope all is well brother. Many blessings.

    Hey Kevin. It’s been hard to get motivated to get out in this stupid heat and unbearable humidity. As soon as you step out the door it’s like trying to breathe through a hot wet towel!😆 I took the girls camping this past weekend. We spent the whole day in the river. Of course I saw all kinds of cool stuff to film but didn’t have my phone. That’s always how it goes. I hope you have a wonderful day Kevin. It’s storming here so I got out of work. Well the hard stuff. There’s always paper work to do. 👎

    I have never searched in a crop field, I am going to try it in one where in times past water has accumulated where they sow. Those broken bases with side notches are beautiful, that scraper with a large blunt tip blade and small broken base is very rare. That last one has a big stem, it's what you expected to find friend. BLESSINGS ALWAYS.

    Prepare to have your heart broken!😄. That machinery is hard on the artifacts. Every once in a while one makes it out alive. One tip I have is if you find a concentrated area of artifacts follow the rows out away from the spot. I believe the whole points get caught up in the equipment and dragged away from the site before it falls out. I find most of my whole points on the outskirts of where they were camped. I wish you the best of luck out there.

    There was a huge swamp up towards the Great lakes area. I think they called it the Black swamp, not positive of that. How big was the swamp where you hunt? before it was drained and turned to farm land.

  • @SeMoArtifactAdventures

    @SeMoArtifactAdventures

    Ай бұрын

    It was massive. It’s one of the largest engineering feats of all time. There is some cool videos on here about it. It’s called the little river drainage project. It’s a big system of canals and levees that divert numerous creeks and rivers out to the Mississippi River. There are still small protected areas of the swamp that still remain. Most of them are full of Indian mounds.

    @@SeMoArtifactAdventures That is history i didnt know, what county or counties is that located in if you dont mind me asking. I was going to buy a piece of property in Illinois. That border the Mississippi river and was next to the Is Shawnee national Forest. I was interested in Deer hunting it. But my now X talked me out of it, what a mistake. I wasnt into Arrowhead hunting to much then, but i am now. Wish i had that property now. That is crazy that was a swamp, it is good to know not all the mounds were destroyed. Its it private property or state property were the existing mounds are. Sorry for all the questions, im a new subcriber to your channel. Even though ive watched some of your videos from before. Take care and best of luck saving those artifacts from the plow and farm machinery.

    @@C.M.R.Artifacts-qu1ey most of the mounds are on protected wetlands sites. Some are privately owned but they are still protected. I’m not sure how that works. The swamp covered multiple counties. It started just south of Cape Girardeau and runs all the way down into Arkansas. I’ve seen some old maps of southeast Missouri when there were several huge lakes that covered most of it. Most people have no idea they live in the middle of it. It stinks you missed out on that property. Probably worth a small fortune now too. Thanks for checking out the videos. I appreciate it.
