I've always turned a blind eye to all this. Until my best mate changed his life around went to India and is now a qualified reiki and breathing healer. I've had two sessions with him. And hand on heart it is absolutely mental the feeling and release there are no words to describe it

I've done three sessions of breathwork in a group of 30+ people. Never felt anything like it before. It was amazing to see so many people's emotion finally come to the surface, I heard crying all around me from people you'd least expect it. So glad to have been able to experience this and would really like to do it again. It's powerful beyond anything you can imagine, feeling your entire body tinkle is crazy.

I remember watching this show with my mrs, and for fun decided to join them. Whilst the other half was laughing at the celebrity reactions thinking it's bs, I hit a dark place thinking about my brother that passed that I always bottle deep down. Wim Hof is not only an amazing teacher (almost cultish) but also a very good salesman. 😂 I am doing his method almost on a daily base, in the morning and/or before I go to bed. And always finish my shower cold, never mind in which period of the year. Does it work? Well, I've probably been more happy than ever before in my life, so I'd say yes. Much more succesful in daily challenges. Work, social life and so forth.

I will say that you cant learn his breathing technique by watching the bbc series. They edit the timings of the steps and it really wouldn't be easy follow. Wim has youtube videos of the proper technique. Its quite simple and involved a lot of holding breath. I used to do it before football training and it gave me an edge. But I didn't do the cold showers. I think I might start it again and do it with the showers too after watching this series.

It's literally as simple as taking about 35 very deep in- and out breaths. Then continue to not breathe for as long as possible, by breathing out. As soon as you really feel the need to breathe in, do so and hold the breath for about 15 seconds (the best part). Then repeat if you want.

Initially people go after experience. Then there reached a point, an inner question, how going after experience any different from any other material pursuit. More the experience , more difficult it become to reproduce it. What we human want ultimately is permanent bliss and we go after it like hungry dogs. As long as there is pursuit the bliss remains illusive. There will be a point when pursuits of every kind needs to be dropped.

Not sure why but it's so, so much easier this time round, and I'm sure that this time I won't stop. You ALWAYS give yourself a reason/excuse to say..., I'll do it tmw..., errm, I've got to do something else this morning and I'm in a rush. We should actually say.. I would consider trying this method (I've only looked into the breathing and his cold baths), but the last thing I need going "deep" is a man yelling. I thought Reiki was nonsense and had an extreme emotional and physical reaction. So many methods to touch past pain and fear deeply, but the healing part (for me) has never been remotely as strong as the well of traumas.

I think Wim Hof is a nice guy, and he's re-popularized for a new crowd long-known, age-old practices of breathing technique and DCE (deliberate cold exposure). But boy, did I cringe when I watched this. It's showbiz, maybe a bit of a "guru effect" for what seem to be overly-emotional people, and all the blubbering and snot-filled weeping and hugging just made me think, WTF? There's good science behind carefully-done breathing techniques and some newer, interesting science on the benefits of carefully-done DCE. So if you're more curious about science and actual human biology and physiology than getting your cues from a goofy TV show about what's happening here, then why not give a real scientist and his colleagues a chance to run it down for you? Dr. Andrew Huberman is a neurophysiologist and professor at Stanford Medical Center, and he's got podcasts/lectures up here on KZread that cover breathing and DCE protocols among other topics. He favors science-based tools and methods, so I guess there's no need to get all weepy, Ok? He gives a shout-out to Wim Hof in at least one of the lectures I've listened to. It's a bit graduate-level but surely most everyone here can struggle through it -- and learns some very cool, useful stuff in the process. Check out Prof. Huberman and have a nice day. Do your breathing, Wim Hof's guided method is just fine. And like Wim says, "I wish you all the love, all the power." 😃

Evra was the one who was so vocal about not experiencing anything. He was so disappointed because he felt broken from all the toxic masculinity he received growing up. Right after the breathing exercise, Green was out cold on the sofa. Not sure what was behind it. The guy opened his mind to the experiences. That's respectable.

I agree with you. I do breathing exercises, and all this crying, throwing one self, is just acting. Breathing brings peace, it's just a way of fully allowing the oxygen to flow through your body whilst leaving a tingling sensation that brings calmness.

@Michelle So do I, way before it all became a trend. My experience is my experience, and I know that some folk are out to exaggerate breathing techniques by making them seem to be more than they are. After exhalation, and when one holds their breath, there is a tingling sensation throughout all the body, and it calms one. I don't endorse into any kundalini, deep, dark breathing techniques, I'm all about breathing for wellbeing, just like Wim Hof, who I think was also taken aback by the dramatics of these so-called celebrities.
