Tip from a newbie, I go to Walmart, purchase a 5 gallon "jug" of water, intended to go into a home water dispenser. I pay for water and get a "free" 5 gallon carboy ... you're welcome! Works GREAT with a 2 port carboy cap with spots for a airlock and blowoff tube ... yeah, barch number three went INSANE and clogged up my airlock, needed a blowoff tube into a gallon jug of sanitizer to stabilize and calm it's jets! Liquid yeasts can be VERY active! I rack into i my fermenter by siphoning, with a siphoning wand sometimes it clogs but not that bad to deal with, just stay out of the sludge
Star San is just the greatest thing for brewing. A buddy of mine always said "When sanitization is in doubt, bring the Star San out".
“Hop Crud” - sounds like an awesome band name.
I sent this video to my daughter who loves to drink my home brew but who is afraid it's to complicated. you explain every thing so well. Much better than I do.
Great video, thanks for going to the effort of putting in the metric conversions 👍
Awesome video! Thank you for doing this series!
Really liking this series!! I like your simplistic view!! Thank you!!
Love your videos!!! Brewing my first batch ever two days from now, and have been watching videos and reading as much as possible to learn what I can beforehand. So much info in your videos, and easy to understand.
The "lid off while boiling tip" was huge! I have never heard that before and trying to boil a huge volume with the lid off is counterintuitive, unless you know about the off flavors! Wow thank you so much! That helps a ton!!
Thanks for the video. Happy brewing.
Fun and informative! Thanks again for helping us newbies!
Love all of the tips you offer us!!! As I watch your videos, all I want to do is brew!!!
Great advice. Can't wait for the next video
These videos were super helpful in gaining a better understanding of the process!
Recently found your channel and have been enjoying your videos. Keep up the good work. Happy Brewing.
Thanks for posting these vids. I learn a lot.
Love these "101" videos! Thank you!!
Bottling day is such an exciting day. All the hard work goes in to the bottle. Cheers!
Outstanding.
Sarah, great video series! I went straight to all-grain when I started brewing but extract is a great way to begin. Your video is easy to understand and not full of brewing jargon that befuddles beginners. Well done!
Going for the second entry! Thanks for the video!
Looking forward to this!
I'm glad you were a guest on DoinTheMost's channel, as that appearance was what introduced me to your content.
This was amazing thank you!
Great video. Thanks for all the info
Awesome video as always
Flora, thank you so much for posting metric units in your videos, like temperature. I really appreciate. Also good idea for the magnets. I used a Dremel Electric Engraver
Super educational very descriptive fun to watch
Excellent!
There is a lot of spot on information here, This is home brew for intermediates
Thanks for the video!
Thanks, learnt a few extra tips there 👍
I need this brew kettle. Like... SO much!!!
Just join your channel, I've been brewing since 1999. I choose to stick to Extract Brewing for a shorter brew day. I formulate my own recipes so I call myself an intermediate home brewer.Loved your American Ale video. Will be tuning in for more of your content.
Just mowed for the 1st time this year. Had to go looking for a nice light extract ale to brew.
Great video!
woop woop!
Thanks again.
Thanks!

A great video with excellent content and hints! I wish KZread was around for my first batch of brew! You have a new subcriber.

Awesome, thank you!
Original Gravity minus final gravity after fermentation multiplied by 131.25 = alcohol by volume.
Nice!
I have the same fermenter. My lid gasket fell in after I put the wort in. It was sanitized, so I just left it. Lid still sealed. No harm, no foul.
Awesome tip with the nail polish
Best advice that can be given is don’t be afraid to make beers with extract. The whole “extract tastes weird” is less of a problem if you get your extract from a HBS that rotates a lot of product like Homebrew Ohio, Austin Homebrew or Northern Brewer. If your LHBS has extract that’s got a layer of dust on it, pass on it.
Nice tips in this vid! I definitely agree on keeping the young beer in a dark place. The T-shirt idea is hilariously genius.

I recently came across this tip on r/homebrewing and thought it was just goofy enough to try for the comedic value alone. Simpler than the towel I've been using too.

good video
Great beginner video!! I am looking to learn and was turned onto your site through Dointhemost YT site. Awesome!
Wow, I never put 2 and 2 together to connect that the frozen malt is the same flavor as brewing malt... learned something new today.
What you can also do is take a small pitcher and remove some of the hot water out to rinse the extract bag to get it all out.
@12:43 I know this pain all too well. I started using my keg seal grease to hold the dang things in place.
You can buy smaller measuring cylinders. Mine is 100ml and I only need 90 to take a gravity reading (less for SG as the hydrometer doesn't sink as far so I can get away with 70ml sometimes).
Love your videos. This helps alot. How hard is it to make Lager?
@FloraBrewing
3 жыл бұрын
It's just as easy as making a lager you just HAVE to have temperature control. The beer needs to stay at 50ºF ish to taste right or be pressure fermented which you need different equipment for.
Solid hydrometer tip
God bless the maltsters to save time. With all that star san foam on top i doubt any nasties are gonna survive that fall in there
U are Awesome! I like Your hair!!!
Awesome... the girl blonde is espectacular... i'm yor fan ... i'm from Venezuela.. í like it brewer.. . 👏👏👏
A white out pen will stay for a long time , I mark engine parts for remembering what year they are , Stays for months untouched .
great vid if you put the bag of LME in a sink with hot water, it’s easier to pour into the kettle

@@FloraBrewing I’ve mainly been doing extracts, cos I have limited space......you pick these things up
I thought your controller box was mounted permanently in your kitchen, funny to see you brewing in a pot on the stove now.
Another top video Sarah, but OMG did you just burp on camera at 17:46? Haha
I would agree, but I wouldn't clean 48 bottles every time.
I’ve seen videos were they use way more grains than you’re using. Why is that?
That is one place I wouldn’t want to have a boil over. 😂 I don’t trust myself to brew indoors.
Watching the beginning, I'm very surprised you do not have a digital thermometer.
Why boil the malt extract is it not already boiled to make it?

Sparge doesn't reach boiling temps.
Just weigh your water on the bathroom scales. 👍🏻
cute
:)
I need a wife like this without question.
Gas stove in an apartment. Thats rare
Nice Video. I miss my Jenny. She seems to came away when the BEERS are really to DRINK. LOL. #STAYSAFE #DRINK MORE BEERS AND KILL MORE CORONAVIRUS BUT DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE IT WILL KILL MORE THAN THE CORONAVIRUS.
I don't understand why you are "losing beer" when you use a hydrometer. If everything is sanitized just pour it back in the container after you do your reading.

I’m too worried about contamination and oxidation to do that

Came here for this comment. I don't think I've ever dumped product after taking a SG reading. Seems like a waste. Make sure stuff is sanitized and dump it back.
The perfect wife doesn't exi....
Why didn't you turn back the liquid in the fermentation after check the gravity ?!! Why do you lose that liquid ? you can wait for it to bobble step down and check the gravity then turn back the liquid to the fermentation jar then add yeast!
I cant take my eyes off of those sexy ass knives.
I might be lcuky
Sanitize the hydrometer and cylinder that way you can put the wort back in
"If you're using liters you can do the same thing with a liter jug" LMAOOOOOO you think metric is a joke? :)
good video
