Extra stories from Freddie Mercury The Great Pretender
Available Now: mercury-studios.lnk.to/Freddi...
Freddie Mercury was one of the most charismatic, complex and fascinating characters in British rock music. The story of Queen is a well known one but this new film focuses on Freddie Mercury and the solo projects he worked on outside of Queen. Using extensive archive footage of interviews with Freddie Mercury, concerts, video shoots and personal material, much of it previously unseen, along with new interviews with friends and colleagues, a portrait emerges of a man who was very different to his flamboyant onstage public persona. A generous, caring, thoughtful man with a self-deprecating sense of humour and a genuine passion for music. Freddie Mercury touched the lives of millions through his career both with Queen and as a solo performer and this new programme will delight and inform his legions of fans.

It was turned down on two points, one "he asked me to audition"....Hahahaha You gotta love Freddie. I can picture Freddie saying that line.

Queen begins and ends with Freddie. He embodied the band's identity, it's triumphs and failings and he was the psyche whose loss it couldn't survive. He was more than just a singer. He was a charismatic genius, not afraid to go after what he wanted. He inspired not only as a writer and as a musician and as a performer but ultimately as a man. He died young, he lived his life to the full and he crammed in an amazing amount of music. More than most people could in five lifetimes. What a brave and courageous man. He never dies because he lives in his songs and our hearts. Love you...Xoxox ❤

Freddie Mercury was much more than a rock star. He was a huge talent, a musical genius. Charismatic, sensual, sexy. He was an extremely creative, educated and interesting man. Wonderful voice, Genius, Irreplaceable!

“Audition?!” I laughed out loud on that part. Can just picture Freddie saying that with his how dare they attitude and that smirk of his. Makes me think of that video of them in Budapest......”Interview? Oh don’t be ridiculous!” 😂😂

I think the last part spoken by Richards (producer) jus about sums it up! Yes indeed, Queen was like the whole planet - the convergence of north south east west. They were the genuine article. In a word like... supercalifragelisticexpiallydocious! 😀😎😚💜👏👏👏

Speaking as a die-hard Freddie and Phantom fan, I think it would take a lot of work for him to “sound” like a phantom. His vocals were so gritty, especially by 1986 (phantom’s premier). The phantom should sound very light ethereal, and controlled (except when he’s having a breakdown in the finale) in my opinion. Freddie’s vocals had a lot of weight and ferocity by this time so idk... although he would be brilliant as far as the stature and gestures go. I would’ve absolutely loved to have seen him in Pirates of Penzance, though he struggled learning choreography and there’s a lot of that in that particular show....

Wonderful video of insight into Queen by those who knew and worked with them. Brian, Freddie, John and Roger are truly 4 very unique and talented individuals who came together to create pure magic. They are immortalized in their music which we are all so grateful to enjoy. This is a once in a lifetime occurrence!

I like John Reid’s recollections about Freddie. Athough at first i thought he said “his genius coupled with his gayness” and then realized he said “his kindness.” 🤣😂 Also a very endearing story about him and Freddie shopping for Japanese art. I often wonder what happened to Freddie’s beautiful collection after he died. I hope it didn’t get trashed and has either ended up in a museum or someone else’s loving hands. 💛👑

Yeah, I knew that. From what I heard, they didn't have any time in their schedules for new, extensive interviews. Plus there was so much surplus material that Rhys Thomas had a tonne of interview clips to choose from. Have you seen the whole thing yet? What did you think of it?

I’ve seen the full version of Freddie Mercury the Great Pretender - it’s fantastic! There’s a lot of footage about his work with Montserrat Caballé - how they met and started working together. Great info and stuff i had not heard about before. My only criticism is (just like BoRap, which i loved BTW) they don’t mention that the other guys had solo projects before Freddie did; i don’t know why that gets left out. Even so the documentary is a must watch! 💛👑

I thought so, somehow. Poor guy had no clue of what was going on, either. He thought that Freddie was suffering from cancer or something. He's sold [the whole of, or his stake in] Montreaux studios, as well. It must have hurt him so much to have to talk about Queen and Freddie all again. This is clearly from the same interview as Days of Our Lives, too. I wouldn't be surprised if he declined to be interviewed again.

Dave...is just affected about the fact that Freddie isn't still with us, and he knows what an amaizing and unique artist Freddie was/is/forever will be. Shame on Roger & Brian for not doing some interventions...busy schedules??? Is not like Freddie was just another artist...and they have time for things like lambert and that jessie???

As much as I love Dave Richards contribution to both Days of Our Lives and The Great Pretender I can't help but wonder... is he drunk? He just... seems to be slurring a lot of words and saying quite a few things in a way that don't exactly make sense.
