Extender Antenna Test - Haloview RV Backup Camera

In this video, I test an accessory antenna for extending the range of the Haloview Wireless Backup Camera System.
Fair Disclosure: I received it from Haloview free of charge.

    Hi Ray. I to purchased a Haloview about 6 months ago. I have the old model that used two antennas on the monitor. It works well. I can tell you from some of my searching that the angle of the antennas is more important than the size unless they are boosted like yours.I can move the angle of my antenna and watch the signal strength. I also contacted Haloview and told them that their manual needed a little work and volunteered to correct a few things to make the installation instructions a little easier to use. The used the corrections and everything's good.

    Thanks, Mike, I've messed with the antenna angle but hasn't made much difference for me inside the truck, seems to be near the same bars and performance whatever way I point it, I assume the signal bounces around in the metal enclosure of the cab. Cheers, Ray

    Hi Ray, I enjoy your videos. I have a 2014 Ford Explorer with a 2017 Golf stream Vintage Cruiser. I have a Furrion 381556 back up camera on the back but it is below the roof line. I had to add a 15 foot extension magnetic base antenna to the camper (had to glue a small piece of steel to the roof) and a 5 foot extension to the roof of my Explorer so the antennas were in line of sight of each other or it would break up and loose signal. Now it works all the time when I am driving.

    Good stuff, it’s all about line of sight, magnetic mount antennas mounted high on both ends could really improve it further. They operate at 2.4 GHz similar to WIFI so all those tricks apply as well, but it is so fun to play & experiment in such a beautiful setting. Keep up the fun technical play while I deal with broke water lines, clogged sewers, & fried electrical outlets & breakers as we have a full park of snowbirds now. I swear you have helped fill our bucket list 2-3 times over as we get close to retiring. :-)

    The extended reach is not for driving out around your campsite. It's to increase your signal while traveling at highway speeds.

    Go look up how fast wireless radio signals travel, then tell me if highway speed versus stationary test matters at all.

    @@LoveYourRV Look at the camera comparison videos on here that the HDT Full-time people have done. And they are 50-60+ feet from the back of the trailer to the front of the truck. Furion versus Haloview. There is a huge difference in stationary versus highway speeds!

  • @LoveYourRV

    @LoveYourRV

    2 жыл бұрын

    Highway speeds should have no effect on signal strength. The transmit and receive antennas are still the same distance apart traveling at the same speed. If there is a problem with signal strength most likely its due to the amount of metal between antennas or electrical interference from other devices on the truck or trailer or from sources you are passing by. Thus the reason to install an extender to close the gap. Maybe you mean the fact that the video frame is moving at highways speed since there is much more changing pixel data to process and stream vs a stationary picture. Therefore the video can't be compressed as much leading to a large data size to stream over the wireless radio connection. That may lead to a less fluid video on one system versus another. In my experience, the Haloview wireless does a decent job at it since they keep the resolution down to 720P, a good trade-off. Still gets some jitter now and then but overall quite satisfactory. Wired systems will always be better since they have much greater bandwidth for the signal and virtually no signal delay but wireless is easier to install and convenient.

    Just a faint smell, I think it can be worse when the wind blows and the sea gets stirred up a bit or if there is an algae bloom going on. Most of our visits have been in December and early January, the smell hasn't been too bad.

    I imagine they use some kind of unique wireless channel arrangement since the display and cameras are paired to each other much like Bluetooth does. Occasionally when I'm in a very dense urban area with lots of wireless signals going on I may get the odd glitch of brief black out. But I haven't determined if its another wireless camera for just one of the other multitude of wireless things. On the out of town highway I very rarely ever see a glitch.

    I had a problem receiving video with my Rear View Safety Systems wireless camera and my trailer is only 12 ft. long. Tech support said it was because there was "too much aluminum" between the camera & screen so I reminded them their systems are made for semis which are almost all aluminum. It came with 2 short antennas for the monitor as well as a magnetic cab roof mount antenna but even it dropped the signal. They eventually sent me a better magnetic truck roof antenna which apparently amplifies the signal from the camera because it works fine now. Unfortunately for my wallet my system cost about twice as much as the Haloview and you have a higher definition monitor. Do you have your's set up so the image is reversed, i.e., a car that's in the left lane appears on the right side of the screen?

  • @LoveYourRV

    @LoveYourRV

    Yes, I have it set up reverse video to act just like a rear view mirror. When I look at it while driving sitting forward a car coming up on me will be on the side I expect it to be.

    I’m sure you know this Ray but for the other viewers, NEVER EVER take off the antenna from the camera(video transmitter) while it is powered on. You will burnout the video transmitter in a matter of seconds. Don’t ask how I know this😖😢

  • @LoveYourRV

    @LoveYourRV

    You would think there would be protection circuitry built into the design in case of a poor/loose antenna connection. Say your antenna rattled loose and lost contact. Was it a Haloview display?

  • @hammer883333

    @hammer883333

    5 жыл бұрын

    This is true for any radio/video transmitter as far as I know. The only type of protection Circuit I know of that will protect the RTx/VTx is by putting a dummy load on the antenna connector and that would kill the range of the RTx/VTx when antenna is on. I may be wrong but to be on the safe side I always have an antenna load on any radio/video transmitter before powering it on.

    This device runs on the common 2.4Ghz frequency used for home internet routers and cordless phones. Many have removable antennas and I don't recall off hand, big warnings about not powering them without an antenna hooked. I know in the old days of vacuum tube transmitter and amps it was a big no-no to run without a load. Maybe I'll email the company see what they say about. Cheers, Ray
