After a couple of weeks and a couple of hundred test miles with the new Haloview Byte Tango BT7 Plus system, I’m back. The Haloview systems have always worked well for me, and I’ve been happy with the image quality. But this new system has ramped up the image resolution another notch, especially the recordings. Everything is cleaner and sharper.
I didn’t get one blackout from interference during over 200 miles of towing on backroads, highways, cities, and rainy weather. With my previous wireless rearview system, I would get the odd few-second blackout usually caused by other nearby wireless signals.
The wireless lag has also improved. High-speed motion is smoother, and the video tracking of vehicles is more accurate compared to their actual locations. Picture color balance and exposure compensation are excellent. The IPS display is nice and bright, and viewable from off to the side.
The Byte Tango’s integration with the Haloview SENS 3 blindspot radar worked as advertised. When a vehicle approached the rear of our fifth-wheel trailer, the display would auto switch to the side camera view, then switch back once the vehicle had cleared the front of our truck. If multiple vehicles passed by, it would hold the side view until they all cleared. Or if cars were passing on both sides, the display would split screen showing both side camera views.
Only a Couple Dislikes
Not many negative things to say about the Byte Tango, but here are a few. The display antennas are relatively large and impede the view if the display is dash-mounted. If mounted on the rearview mirror, as I do, they stick up too far. I ended up installing a little elbow and extension wire to make it fit nicely.
When using the SENS 3 radar, I noticed a brief pause between switching the camera view. It wasn’t instantaneous. Also, it took an extra few seconds to switch back after the vehicles had passed us. I lose the critical rearview camera for longer than I’d like on heavily congested highways or during city driving.
Conclusion
Overall I love the new Byte Tango BT7 system from Haloview. As I said, I was happy with the older models but glad to see that Haloview is continuing to redesign and improve its rear monitor cameras and displays. I look forward to using this as my primary RV rear view system. If any issues crop up, I’ll let you know. Cheers, Ray

I loved your review so much I ordered the same outfit including the rearview mirror mount. Jeep doesn't make mirror extensions; I bought a set of universal mirror extensions, but I still can't see down the sides of my 8' wide lightweight Toy-hauler, all the way to the back of it. I almost got in an accident, last week, my first time out in my RV. Those side cameras will do away with those useless extension mirrors & make my RV trips much safer, especially when changing lanes. When I receive them & install all 3 cameras, I will be a Happy Camper! Thanks for the info.

One thing that be nice would be a security mode. So when parked and/or camping and you go out you can have them act as motion activated cameras. That would be a well worth feature! Maybe you can mention that to Halo as something they can come up with. Nice you can get so much recording time. Can they be set to record continuously if you put the dash unit in the camper? Again, thinking of security use while away from the camper. I hate leaving the camper alone with the hatches being so easy to break into. And I'd sleep better if I could have it record with night vision overnight. Thanks Ray! Are you parking for the summer at the place in View Royal?

Yeah, tried that but the antennas kind of hang down in the way, think I like them tucked up towards the headliner. Also all the OSD symbols and button labels would be upside down. But speaking of this I've just installed a new Haloview for review called the Byte Tango 12. It's got a wide 10 inch display with antennas located on a separate power box. Fits perfect on the mirror! www.loveyourrv.com/haloview-bt12-installation-wireless-rearview-camera-dash-cam-combo/ Cheers, Ray

Hi Ray found both videos on the BT 7 educational. In the time you've used it have you noticed any rear marker light glare in low light conditions since the rear camera is mounted above the marker light?

  • @LoveYourRV

    Жыл бұрын

No, I haven't and I drive with the marker lights on all the time and often on rainy or overcast conditions. I don't do much night time towing though. Very rare for me. Usually have arrived and setup camp well before sundown. I had to a few months back and didn't notice marker light glare but found the display was really bright in the cab and vehicle headlights were very bright on the screen, hard to see any detail. I don't think it would be all the great to use if you towed a lot a night.

I wasn’t as fortunate as you were with the Haloview RD7 system. I will add that their tech support was excellent and worked with me numerous times. My fifth wheel is only 34’. But the lag on my rear camera is so bad that when the car is beside me, almost ready to pass me, it is still behind me in the monitor. Totally unsafe. The two side cameras only work when I am still. Once I start moving one side no longer connects. I have just had problem after problem with this system. Haloview has replaced antennas and side cameras, but they have not solved the issues and over time the issues have gotten so bad that I can no longer use the system. I received a new Vision Works system from TechnoRV today and will be installing it this weekend. The specs are very similar between these brands. But the Vision Works is several hundred dollars more. I lost all confidence in the Haloview system and simply wasn’t willing to purchase another of their products. I hope your system continues to work extremely well. Did you ever try Haloview’s rear view mirror mount? I have been using it for almost two years. Solves your dash crowding issue. Highly recommend this accessory, although I do not know if it is compatible with the new monitor

  • @LoveYourRV

Maybe a bad display unit. It's the common thing in the setup. Or there is some major interference taking place from your truck electronics or trailer. That would be my two guesses. My RD7 system worked great. I didn't even need the booster on my rig. Which rearview mirror mount are you referring to? I have the one with the Velcro straps from my RD7 system. Showed it in this video.

@@LoveYourRV yes my apologies. I copied and pasted my comment that I submitted to I Love RV Life. He released a review on the same new Haloview system yesterday. He didn’t use the rear view monitor mount, like you and I. I agree with you on all your comments on the previous system. I did have the TST and Haloview repeater next to one another. The Victron Battery Monitor and Victron Bluetooth dongle and LevelmatePro are only a few feet away. It is possible that the five devices could be causing interference with one another. Now that I won’t need the Haloview repeater, maybe I won’t have issues with the Vision Works system. Will know this weekend.

I have a Hopkins Backup camera that was already installed on my rig , I actually don't like the White LEDs, because it's powered from the marker lights, the Bright White LEDs come on automatically when I turn the lights on, they only way to shut them off is to connect to the camera with a Mobile device then adjust them, having them On by default (and unable to change this) was a big design flaw. I'm going to disconnect it until I find a better camera for the RV, I may have used it once? I never drive at night if I get delayed I'll stop for the night at a Rest stop. especially if I'm in unfamiliar territory.

Pretty good in the dusk light, picture stays pretty bright compared to my eye, but not great in the dark of night, kind of useless in the pitch dark or if there are blinding headlights behind. Also the brightness of the display in the cab of the truck is distracting, but I rarely tow my trailer at night, usually have arrived at camp well before sundown. Not many cameras would be good at night, you'd almost need to different ones with different lens and sensors.

I am curious if these cameras would suffice instead of mirror extensions? Also is it better to put the side cameras on the front or rear side markers? My concern is mainly being able to spot if a vehicle is clear of the back. Which I suppose would be easy to see on the rear?

  • @LoveYourRV

    @LoveYourRV

    2 жыл бұрын

They can help but mirrors are still better because they offer real time tracking of the vehicle. The cameras have a bit of lag to them due to the wireless operation. The rear camera is very wide angle so I find its pretty good at letting me know when a vehicle is clear of the back end. I think the best place for the slide markers is at the trailer front. Better for help backing into tight spots to see down the side of the trailer. Cheers, Ray

You kinda grazed over the routing of your wiring, and skipped to show the 12v plug in. I'm curious as the how you hard wired it. As I am not crazy about wires hanging about, it's asking to be pulled by someone. Plus this way it will activate the side cameras when cycling the turn indicator. Thanks

I have my GPS, Dashcam, and Haloview Display power feeds all spliced into my truck's 12V power socket feed wire. So when I turn on the truck key to ACC or start they all come to life. I personally don't use the triggered turn signal option, my truck mirrors do good enough for that. btw the Byte Tango Kit didn't include the hardwire cable option, so I ended up just cutting off the 12V power socket plug. I doubt I'll use the triggered blind-spot cam as well, same reason, my truck mirrors have good coverage and the red LED indicators are good enough to let me know a car is there. I have a previous video where I showed hiding wires in my Ram 3500 www.loveyourrv.com/hiding-various-truck-dash-accessory-power-wires/ I've since done away with the 12V socket spitter and have everything spliced + soldered together. I also have a powered seat lumbar support tied in www.loveyourrv.com/aftermarket-power-lumbar-install-2018-ram-3500-truck-seat/ If you watch those two videos you'll get a sense of how I wired things.

Sorry, can't really say I rarely ever tow the trailer after dark, usually always at camp and setup before sundown. So haven't had a chance to test for night towing. I imagine the bright car headlamps would washout the picture at times. The switchable camera LED flood lamps are quite bright so would definitely illuminate well for backing up if needed. They take not much power at all so I don't see a problem with using on a work trailer. Cheers, Ray

Its likely due to the small fish eye wide angles lens and tiny camera sensors they use have physical limitations that even the software can't overcome dealing with bright sun and dark night. So they err to the bright light which most people use it in. Maybe they could come out with a dual lens camera with one tuned for day and one tuned for night. Or maybe a sophisticated auto lens filter. But all that drives up costs and likely most people don't need the night visions that much to pay the extra.

Received my Haloview BT7 3 camera system a few days ago and started installation. Wired up the back camera to the Furrion prewired plug. Camera worked great. Monitor worked great. Paired and tested the Left side camera and LED. Camera and monitor worked great. Installed the left side camera and LED light on the RV. Checked the monitor and the picture was upside down. Tried to use the buttons on the monitor to get to the MENU and buttons didn't work. Then the cigarette light adapter cable died and the monitor died. Discovered that the cigarette Lighter adapter cable has a fuse. The fuse in the cigarette lighter blew. I was disappointed to find out that an almost $600 system is dependent on a fuse. I replaced the fuse. The monitor is still hung. No buttons on the monitor work. All I see is the upside down image from the left side camera. I power cycled everything multiple times and still the buttons on the monitor do not work and I only see the image from the left side camera. I did discover that if I turn OFF the truck lights, thus turning OFF the cameras, the buttons on the monitor work. The only way to contact Haloview is via email. I have sent email. I have not had a reply. I am disappointed that the almost $600 system malfunctioned almost right out of the box. Anyone else have these kinds of issues?

Need to see a video with 2 different Cameras. on that is hardwired and this brand of system and see what the video looks like side by side to see what kind of lag there is. I'm wanting to get a system for my Camper. but any lag is problematic for me. I will need as close to 100% lag free. mostly if your in areas with heavy Traffic, because some times I will go though places like Saint Louis. and traffic can be nuts and a micro second can be the difference between a nasty crash. Because city people will not give you room to get over they do not care. When you think you have room they seem to speed up just to block you off. I have trucker buddies that talk about that all the time.

If you require it to be near 100% lag free to a micro second I would definitely hardwire the camera. A wireless radio signal camera will never be as fast due to the required signal processing time. My Ram truck has really big extended side mirrors so I find between the wireless rear cam and the big side mirrors I manage pretty well in heavy city traffic. All I need from the rear cam is to know there are vehicles in my blind area behind me. Cheers, Ray
