Exploring Turkey Kearn Lake - Late May and Early June 2024

Спорт

Turkey Kearn lake is a MDC impoundment located in Johnson County, MO. It is a little over 30 miles from home so I'm interested in exploring its post-drought potential.
This video captures two visits to the lake; one in late May and another a few weeks later in early June.
Every normal fresh water species for this part of the state were found in these two visits: Bass, Bluegill, Redear Sunfish (shell crackers), Crappie and a channel catfish.
Conclusions: Further exploration is in order, especially to pattern the crappie. There is a great deal of standing and submerged trees in deep water that may hold good crappie at the right time of the year.
A couple of the Redear Sunfish that got off were quite a bit stronger and larger than the ones brought to hand so that could mean this is one of the better Redear impoundments in my area.
Rudie was consulted for his opinion on keeping panfish and, as the Sportsman that he is, advised me to put them back. He deserves a medal from the MDC!
Sparky only receives one besmirk that is hardly noticeable hahaha.
Enjoy the show

Thanks so much, Brian, and glad you enjoyed the show. I'm pretty sure I've been shadow banned by the YT algorithm since starting the (family friendly) channel in 2007 because I'm unapologetically a conservative. Fortunately, I've never chased subscribers but rather believe in the "if you build it, they will come" philosophy. I enjoy videography as a hobby and make these (hopefully informative and entertaining) shows for family and friends. Have a wonderful week. Don

Thanks, Bill. When I fished this lake a few years ago in the drought era it was a total mess of clogged lily pads. If we get a steady diet of normal rains, it might become one of my favorites. Have a great week, Don

Thank you, Virgillio. Exploring the potential of a new spot can take quite a bit of time and require a lot of techniques. I'll be exploring if there's crappie gathered in the forest of trees one of these days. Typically it will require dropping jigs straight down into the limbs... thankfully, I've got plenty of those lures. Best wishes, Don

Thanks a lot, Rick. I'm keeping this lake on my radar because it has a lot of inviting characteristics. Since we are just now emerging from a really bad drought that messed up nearly all the small waters around here, I think there's still a lot to learn about this one. Have a wonderful week, Don

Do you store your float tube inflated? Would it handle being left outside under a deck away from sun?

Great questions, Brian. I'm fortunate to have a nice 10x12 shed with an upper level. I store two (mine and my sisters) Cumberland tubes INFLATED on the upper deck and the floor space is for my kayak and all other kinds of guy/yard stuff. A float tube should be ok under a deck if it is on a pallet of some sort. I don't think rodents would build nests.... If stored inflated, do not be alarmed with the loss of pressure in the tube as the temperature rises and falls. Sometimes Boston valves allow a little aircto leak over time. If you have any questions about float tubing please ask. I've been a "tuber" since the 80s. Don
