I grew up in the Northern Maine woods and live in Ashland. Your missing out on a lot if you feel it wasn't all you had hoped for. A few days is not even close to enough. I wish I had been able to to send you to a few amazing places that mostly only locals know.

This is why you should always ask a local or overlanding group from the area for suggestions on roads to travel, that are passable, and good camping spots. I have been going into the NMW for the last 5 years in my Tacoma and have never had issues, we are friendly with plenty of the NMW staff, and park rangers. as we "tread lightly" and try to leave areas/campsites better than we found them. as a general rule of thumb if a trail has grass growing in the middle that is over 10" tall plan to turn around soon as that is likely an impassable route, and rarely travelled.. hunters will use these routes to get into an area and scout... thats about it. Typiclly I will carry about 12 gallons of spare gas. and you guys picked some of the worst campsites...

Maine is on our wishlist! Starting to see a little fall color - I wonder what it looks like a few weeks later. Trying to find camp in the dark is not fun, especially with rain also. Love the lesson about respecting nature. We want to be able to visit these areas for years to come. We don't really have places like this in Indiana, but we do still have some beautiful places to visit. Thanks for sharing your adventure!

I laughed at the comment about finding a better campsite after dark. In my experience, I seem to get a little less picky the later it gets and the lack of light seems to hide a few things I might have noticed in full daylight. More than once, I have woke up to think that I passed a few sites that were just as good as the one I found after dark. On the other hand, some mornings have revealed wonderful surprises. Another great video, can't wait to se NH and VT.

@@billgriffith1274 just north of West Forks on 201 is a road called Capital road. That enters logging land, be careful in there during the week but on weekends its pretty quiet. If you travel the side roads and trails you can find spots holding moose. You could also follow the Golden Road west from Baxter till you get to Telos rd, go through the checkpoint (there are fees) and wander around up there you will see moose. Take your time while driving its easier to spot them. Also if you go to either of these spots bring extra gas, especially past the Telos checkpoint there won't be any place to refuel for many miles.

Too bad that North Maine Woods wasn't all you'd hoped. I know it's a logging area and camping isn't a primary purpose to the area. We did see on another channel we watch that Spider Lake has a great camp site or two, and we've seen a few others that look great. Given the price, we may go up there and spend just a day or two at Spider Lake. Thanks for the great video and some realistic light on the camping in the area. Looking forward to NH and VT.
