Exploring The Myth Of The Afon Conwy Afanc

I'm partial to the myths and legends of Britain and Ireland. Most are ancient and identify with Celtism in these islands though some clearly are much older than that. Perhaps 8000 BC or so?
The Afanc is a mythical beast which inhabited deep rivers and deep pools in rivers, sometimes lakes, which would wreak havoc on neighbouring land, destroying crops, devouring livestock and people and so on. An all round dangerous creature.
Of all the afancod tales, this one is the best and arguably the most well known; the afanc of the Afon Conwy. Several versions are known though very similar to each other.
I visited the afanc pool on the Afon Conwy near Betws y Coed then moved to a vantage point overlooking the upper part of the Llanberis Pass to relate the locations mentioned in the tale of how the locals captured the beast and transported it to a high mountainous lake where it could no longer bother anyone.
