Exploring The Hologram Electronics Chroma Console Multi-Effect Distortion Modulation Delay Tape Sim
Музыка
Hologram Electronics has some of the coolest effects out there. They look good, and they sound as good as they look. Josh and the crew will be taking the new Chroma Console for a spin, pairing it with their Microcosm.

Pedals like these reinforce the “golden era of guitar” vibes I have. The absolute emotion this thing throws off, with incredible midi control and accessibility. Just incredible. What a world.
I want you to start a series called “it does the thing” where you just show pedals that make a really specific sound.

That would be a great way to show, no you don't need the exact piece of esoteric gear xyz artist used in 19xx to get a certain sound.
I've seen every episode and live stream, and this is my favorite one. Ever.
These jams were next level. The "Zeus" riff was so frickin catchy. And poem time is always a nice time.

Josh is a very interesting and inventive player. Nick is no slouch either. i mean he slouches but..nm! got no problem listening to these guys jam for awhile.
Nick: This is like… they hit it so far… they hit it out of the park and then into another park and out of that park. Double park. Joshua: Remember that movie where the kid hit the baseball out of the park and it killed that lady? Josh: M. Night Shyamalan? The Village? I don’t know why I laughed so hard at this.
It’s like this pedal was built for the JHS show. It’s all vibes
Best drum tones on the internets.

Best tones period! I'm not even really a guitar guy (I watch it for the effects pedals for my synths mainly) but the mixing on this channel is amazing. I wish they would put out a compilation of all their jams.

This is just what it sounds like when you mic a drum set normally, don’t eq it much, and play it well.
Yep, Jonny from Radiohead started using MAX/MSP for the stutter sounds and such on Hail to the Thief in 2003.
Top tier JHS live. Love seeing you dorks experience true pure joy through music.
We need a Part 2 of this. 🔥

Maybe with the same two pedals while focusing on the Microcosm...?
Got one last week and im running it as a hardware plugin in my DAW. Handles line level just fine. Loving it so far.

Right? I was really thinking JHS vids would be the cure for lusting after this pedal because I could cover so much ground with other pedals. 🤔 Now ... I'm screwed. 😂
If you just want that "collage" effect, the Malekko Charlie Foxtrot nails it. Great pedal.
I was genuinely worried about Nick there at the beginning, but it was great to see him getting animated about these lovelypedals. Great sounds, lovely jams, lovely lovely 🙏🏼💜✨
incredible sounding, and you nailed the scales and riffs to suit. Love your creations as well!
Two weeks on the road and I came home to this on Thursday night. The most entertaining hour I've seen this year. Thanks so much. Although I have to confess that my G.A.S. had subsided over the last year and a half but just came roaring back in a spacey, ambient way.
Loved the music yall put together... on all fronts. So good.
This is perfect timing. I have been considering getting one of these.

Throw all those reviews in the _garbáge_ this is all we needed! *Sold!*
Sjiiiiiiittt... that was AWESOME!!!! Love you guyz. So sad Addison is no longer on the team.
Best video about the Chroma Console I've seen. After seeing a ton of them... this is the one that makes me want to buy a Chroma Console (and a Microcosm). More please and thank you.
This was a joy to watch - seeing Nick's face light up with each new effect was so fun! I have a Chroma Console and I love it - tempted to invest in a Microcosm as well now!

I have the Microcosm and it’s amazing. So many videos about it focus on all the “weird” stuff it can do, which is true, but it’s also really musical and useful for less weird atmospheric sounds that add that special something. Really versatile. I’ve been interested in the Chroma Console but haven’t pulled the trigger. This is the best “demo” I’ve seen of it, and now I think I need to add it to my Microcosm.
Did I seriously just purchase this pedal? I’m so excited now.
OMG this reminds me of my (old-school) Alesis INEKO Multi-FX (which appears to have gained tons of value in past 20 years). Simple, excellent quality FX that "don't let the form of the pedal interfere with creativity." I love this product, this channel (esp Live episodes) and particularly Nick's "loss of composure". Hope that Hologram sells as many as they can make.

Yeah it does, seems to be a 5120. I was hoping it was a current model but it isn't. Their only currently available model that's similar is the Jack Casady which only has the one mid pickup which doesn't really interest me
@reginaldperiwinkle

@@AfferbeckBeats That seems right. They probably removed the pick guard. The one things is that the bass looks small, but I have to remember that Josh is a giant so that bass might actually be huge.
"we're gonna need a bigger breadboard..." have seen this pedal used only in electronic ambient type stuff and it seemed cool. didn't even know it could do all sorts of "regular" stuff too. great job!!!
I use The Chroma Console almost daily. It flavors so much of my production.
Nick - digging the Burrito Bros T. I can hear the spirit of Mr. Parsons coming through loud and clear in the grooves tonight!!
I have one on the way. Great demo! Love the cassette feature!
Awesome playing and demo y'all!
Nick's drumming on the "chill beat" jam nailed that sluggish dilla feel perfectly.
“Someone else will change the world” 😊 I would buy that track
You can go sooo deep with the Microcosm. Especially when you get into time warping loops. Thing is a BEAST
That was an incredible stream!
the dilla vibe on the chill jam is AMAZING!
Just listened to Andy Powers and Josh's fretboard journal podcast. What a great chat. From his days at Norris Music in winfield,AL to talking philosophy what a trip for a bama boy!
Loved it!! Thanks!!
Just bought mine 3 days ago, so excited! Wasn't cheap to ship it to Belgium but is sound too good!
Did josh mention that you can change the routing of the four effects blocks?
Hologram is amazing! Represent Knoxville, TN!

"Time as Long as it Goes", is a strong song title idea.

Awesome show, awesome pedal and tones, and great jams!! maybe i missed it, but did you mentioned that you also are able to change effect order on this pedal?
Great episode!
Not only does Nick's drums sound good, but his time is excellent. It's always a nice backdrop to display the pedals. Also, pedals are pretty incredible sounding!

I'm here to say the movie reference Joshua made was "Simon Birch" which is an attempt to adapt John Irving's brilliant novel "Prayer for Owen Meany" to big screen. I give it a C+

nice effects...dat slide though 🤤
I was laughing so much watching this. Thanks!

Best jams yet
The thing I do kinda struggle with mine is where to put it in the chain in a pedal board format. As a standalone it’s obvious. But in a board, at the end? After overdrives but before other mod/delay so you can go either way with it? Early? Etc

I've had the console for under a month and barely scratched the surface of what it can do. Paired with a Kinotone Ribbons it's insane
Please do a follow up with the Microcosm!!
That Talking Head's sound just made me buy a pedal.
I dig the drums.
~and, it sounds good with synths.
Glad that you've bought the Zoom 505 into the equation... Some of these Chroma sounds just as "digital" as those old multi-effect units were - but since the UI is nice, colourful and pretty most people just don't care. As they liked the tones when they thought it's coming from a tube amp and not from a Kemper. You could definitely find great sounds and inspiring tones in a 30 buck Zoom or Digitech or a ten times more expensive Chroma if you have the taste and ears. Nice pedal tbw, definitely more stupid-proof compared to the vintage, old-school stuff.
Intro music awesome.
Ryan and Steve at 60 cycle hum put in the cosmos last year the zoom 505 almost exactly one year ago!!! Love you all and have a blessed day!!! What will Josh review next!!
Very cool intro!
I wouldn't be surprised if the Chroma Console was actually inspired by the legendary EMS Hi Fli, the first guitar multieffect.
Didn’t show that you can move around the modules in any order too
@joelknutson2540

This is such an important feature of this pedal. Instant shoegaze just by putting the reverb and delay options in front of the gain options!
the pitch-gurgle-sample-and-hold sounds that are being likened to Talking Heads are more like the electronic-gurgle sounds on "Boobytrapping" by David Holmes
Ok, now I need one of those.
Great video. Very engaging, stayed up way late.
THAT IS SOOOO COOOOOL, GUYS... -Nick Loux
If that Zoom 505 was in the loop, all we’d hear is the massive hissing of that thing! Had one as one of my first pedals… limited nostalgia on that one ..
We seriously need a Zoom 50X series episode
It’s like Buckethead rhythm melody tracks for a pike!
I didn't care too much about the drive sounds, but the other three modes are out of this world!
@joelknutson2540
Ай бұрын
What’s interesting about this pedal is that I 100% agree with you, but after watching this I think we’re wrong. I haven’t pulled the trigger on this because of that, even though it could replace multiple pedals on my board. Where I think we’re “wrong” is that yeah, the drives definitely aren’t as good as other standalone drive pedals, or an amazing multi-drive pedal like the Chase Bliss Automatone. But in context, as soon as you add all the other layers, I think the drive becomes the 3rd or 4th most important factor in the sound. For a straight up drive sound for covering the Beatles, Stones, Zep, Nirvana, Pumpkins any metal or hardcore band, etc. this isn’t enough. If you’re writing original ambient/shoegaze/indie rock I think the drive sounds are plenty good enough. If using this for original music, and you lean towards one of those genres, this + microcosm + Morningstar MC6 + great amp or modeling pedal (tonex?) is all you need. And if you need to play covers and originals, then add Automatone for all of the amazing drive tones you need.
This is the best.
"I sat in a nook today but I usually choose a table." I felt that.
It’s like a korg ms2000r as a pedal. Knobby and analog feeling but digital in application.
Automate the red section for some kind of overdrive tremolo thingy 😮
I love and hate these videos. Because you guys get awesome sounds out of these modulation/time pedals, and I know my own personal style wouldn't make proper use of them, and they'd just be a big, expensive delay.
Nick is a great Hype Man.
