When it comes to Jubilee celebrating her first Christmas with the X-Men, I think that may actually mean she was with her adoptive parents on holidays most times, especially a big one like Christmas, but as the X-Men became more and more a family to Jubilee, and as she was getting older, she wanted to spend it with the X-Men and her parents obliged. I don't recall there being any animosity between Jubilee and her parents, it was just one of those things where it was much safer for Jubilee to live at the Mansion. Since she's not a Morlock, she could very easily just go visit them without too much fuss. Now realistically, you'd probably just invite Jubilee's parents to the mansion because they're just going to be by themselves if extended family isn't coming to spend the holiday with them, Jubilee became part of the X-Men right away with no regrets or feeling of being homesick, it's the best thing that ever happened to her, but her going home to spend a few Christmases with her parents is the best way I can justify her statement in the episode without just flat out ignoring it.

You missed it. That london cruise liner episode is from season 4. Its the psylocke episode of "beyond good and evil" so like part 3. Its from the scene where mystique and sabretooth were failing to capture psylocke and magneto came in to do the dang thing himself lol. Its so funny how he effortlessly beat them

Yes, but that cameo contradicts the timeline, they put Juggernaut leaving the ocean, referencing the episode "The Juggernaut Returns" from season 4, but in that episode all the X-Men are in different places during Juggernaut's attack while in the cameo all the x-men are gathered on the roof of a building for some reason (another contradiction is that in the cameo Juggernaut comes out of the ocean during the night while in the x-men series he came out during the day).

Yeah, on the surface it seems pretty consistent, but when you dive into it abit, it definitely has some issues. But for the most part, it stands up fairly well, ig.

34:00 often, summer is considered to end at the autumn equinox, which is in September, specifically in 1997 it was on the 22nd, so any date before that in september would still reasonably be considered summer

This whole time I thought the events of the original X-Men took place over the span of a year all because of that Jubilee's first Christmas line! My only guess would be that Jubilee would go home over the Christmas break in the previous years and this was the first time she stayed in the mansion to celebrate with the other X-Men.

If you are planning to do a timeline of all the series in the 90s Animted Marvel Universe, I would like to add that the Univerdal Florida (except for the current version of the Hulk Coaster) take place in this universe. The rides canon to this universe include The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman, Storm Accelerator, and Dr. Doom Fearfall. The one exception is the Hulk coaster. The original version from 1999 was canon, but the current refurbished version from 2016 is separate from this universe.

As for "Jean" being pregnant at the start of this season, I think you can argue she is 2-3 months pregnant in the season 5 finale. I know they don't make mention of it or anything, but you could say she is 2 months pregnant in November of 96, and then the new series takes place 6 months later when she is 8 months pregnant and close to giving birth.

Right...that's exactly what I thought as well. So I was originally going to place episode 1 in the springtime. However, once Episode 7 gave us the Dia De Los Muertos reference, it placed that episode in late October / early November and thus that made episode 1 fit nicely in September. So Madelyne likely got pregnant in January of '97, it seem.

Thank you for this comprehensive explanation! Other channels trying to tackle this have struggled to make it digestable while detailed. The issues with release order remind me of Futurama, which similarly was shuffled around in a weird way (both were done by fox, too).

Thanks for the positive feedback on the vid. I agree, the trickiest thing with a timeline video is to make it both detailed but also digestible. I'm glad you feel I found that sweet spot. And yeah, the wacky release order for the show made it very hard to discern the timeline when it was originally aired. So glad they ultimately shared the script order, as that made it possible to then nail down the timeline.

@@AbitofEverything4U frustratingly ( on Disney plus Canada, at least, and this could have been changed since I last watched) Futurama, which even had entire seasons blended together or fabricated by FOX not to mention random shuffling of episodes, is listed in broadcast order to this day. I believe you are right to assume Disney took the care to ensure X-Men was listed properly though.

The reason it's felt more with X-Men and Futurama, for example, is the suits (or execubots) at FOX likely didn't understand how compared to their contemporaries, both shows actually had season/show long storytelling and continued continuity. From what I remember with Futurama, fox first started messing with things to fit the Xmas episode on Christmas then never stopped. Sorry for the seemingly unrelated tangent, just find it interesting 90s/00s fox didn't seem to recognize or care for the canon of animated programs.

You should have included the flashback scenes in the original series such as the scene of Jubilee watching the original X-men fighting magneto in the iceman episode, and that brings up an interesting point about the X-men being an active team before the public knew about them in the series premiere, so I wonder how they were able to maintain their anonymity for so long?

Good point...I wonder if the earlier X-Men appearances prior to that first episode from season 1 were either done in secret and/or Professor X mindwiped anyone that saw them. Excellent question!

28:58 episodes 15 and 16 are actually incorrectly swapped (this is an error in the episode order itself, not just Disney+), as episode 15 is the direct sequel to episode 16 (some scenes from 16 are shown as flashbacks in 15).

Good video as always, answering some of your questions: 6:00 that moment happens in "Beyond Good and Evil part 2" the line mentioned that this event happens in '93 still doesn't make sense so I guess it's just a mistake. 8:00 yes, officially marvel only considers the x-men and spider-man series as the same universe, all the other series from the 90s are supposed to be their own universe, anyway a video of a chronology of these series would be interesting.

Also: episode one of 97 shows a just arrived death certificate for charles, dated 11/11/96. Don't know how long it takes to have someone legally dead (without a body no less) but that is either the date of season 5's finale or the date it was made official legally.

Agreed...I think that's very likely the date of the season 5 finale.

Due to the all the inaccuracies between the 90s animated shows I always assumed they were actually separate timelines that branch off each other... but putting that together into one cohesive viewing order is so difficult. Also in December 1995 Jubilee would be 16 so maybe she was making a joke about how she's now old enough to be classed as an X-Man. That's the only other explanation I can think of.

ikr? I had the same thought. But it seems like there were a ton of 1991 references. Considering it was likely being written during 1991, ig it makes sense in that regard.

What's tricky about S3E10 is that everything before and after it fits its time references perfectly. Out of universe, I think the writers wanted to move up the timeline for whatever reason and did it awkwardly. I think until Marvel releases something that clears things up, we can assume the X-men somehow just lost 16 months' time. Probably not the strangest thing to happen to them tbh. Also, Captain Marvel takes place between S3 and S4, or maybe a couple episodes into S4, while Dark Phoenix is somewhere in the first two seasons. And also in S3, technically.

the orange electricity stuff around the cruise ship sort of reminds me of Proteus since Magneto's powers are usually shown as blue and Proteus's are shown as orange, though I don't recall Proteus doing that in an episode either. Either way, if that's the case that seems to imply that they're saying the Proteus episodes are in '93 as well based on what you brought up. For the "Jubilee's first Christmas" thing I don't think it's even that everyone is a Scrooge or anything like you say, I think it's just a "we've been too busy saving the world and such that we haven't been able to have the time to celebrate Christmas". I almost wonder if some of the lines from some episodes of the original show were "rewritten" to fit with the order they released things rather than the script order since a lot of Season 3 and 4 episodes released in a different order than the script order. That may explain why there might be some issues with figuring things out in those seasons. If not that maybe it's more "anthological" for lack of a better term, in other words maybe it was meant more as a this is an adventure the X-Men have, but the episodes aren't necessarily in a linear progression and just kinda jump around, like for example Season 1 Episode 1 is September 91 then Episode 2 is like June 93 then Episode 3 is like October 92 then Episode 4 goes back to September 91 and so on. Probably not that much jumping around, but something like that. Maybe too it does sort of what shows like Family Guy and the Simpsons and Scooby-Doo and such do (both animated shows and live-action sitcoms and such, especially from back in the day) where there's a sort of vague linear progression and continuity and such but for the most part the episodes can be seen in pretty much any order and a year in the shows timeline could be like 3 or 4 seasons long or it could be 2 episodes long or they could just eternally be in 1 year for the entire show and stuff like that. As far as the other Animated Series go with the connections to X-Men: the Animated Series, I think only the Spider-Man: the Animated Series is in the same Universe and the rest are in other Universes. Other than doing the rewatch of the Animated Series fairly recently, I've not gone back through and done a more thorough dig of the episodes finding different timeline this like this and such nor have I gotten around to reading the in-Universe comics, so I don't really have much of anything to say on the actual dating and such of the episodes, and even if I did most everything seems pretty good anyways. For the Jubilee birthday thing and when Jean returned to Earth, at least for those cases I'd go with whatever the most recent information about them is, and that seems to be what you've done as well.

I'll admit I was skeptical of using the Paris UN meeting to date the series when you brought it up on Discord. There was no way they threw in such a specific meeting that ultimately just became a footnote of that year, right? But only after reading what little I could find on that meeting did the fact that they used the President's very words - "conventional weapons" - in the show sell me on it. It's so ridiculously specific that it can't be a coincidence. Great observing!

I'm a little surprised you're doing this now before the last three episodes have released but I still appreciate it. Surprised to see a 1991 date since the recent 97 episode made it seem like season 1 started in 1992. Interesting little wrinkle with that 1993 issue, wow. I didn't know the other shows had a different president, although I guess it depends when they're happening chronologically and how long Kelly stays president. I also just noticed ... Jean has her hair down in S2E12 ... now the hair thing is hard to say if it's Jean or Madelyne if it's happening that early. Still the season 2 and 3 dates are interesting to say the least. I am curious how you went from April 1993 to August 1993 though and I agree that Scott's line is vague enough it doesn't have to be in 1993 still. As for the Christmas line it's easily rectified by assuming they've just been caught up in all kinds of nonsense they've not had time to really celebrate Christmas, hence Jubilee's first. Had no idea there was tie-in comics, now I wanna read them! A little bit to add regarding S1E7 with the "week" line. He doesn't say it's been a week since the event but that it's been a week since any new survivors have been found which could put it later than a week, which you then state haha.

Plus, my guess is the last three episodes happen in pretty close succession. So I suspect the season ends in November, 1997

Yeah, it's a pretty big time jump...that said, I also think it makes sense that Kelly would announce his presidency in the spring of the year before the election, so it seems a few of the episodes logically fit into 1991. Definitely surprised me as I didn't see that coming.

If you're right, then that means Jubilee is 12 in Season 1, which is so weird to think about...but considering all the evidence, and the fact even Bastion shouts out 1992, I guess there's no other way to see it. As for the Jubilee thing, my thinking is that maybe she's spent Christmas each year with her foster parents? X-Men 97 does confirm she is still in contact with them. It's still a weird line regardless, but that's my best guess.

First Wolverine tried to save her from the Nasty Boys and got whomped because Morph was Jean, but then, how is Xavier not able to notice the change when he and Magneto just heard the power-stealing Monoluge? His own shame of calling the X-Men into a trap!

Point 1, Moroph is able to turn into a Jean when she is kidnapped by Sinister wearing green top with khaki pants and Logan didn't smell the difference when Jean turns back and whomps him! Point 2 after some time in the Savage Land Xavier & Eric are captured, remember he was kinda double-teamed by Vertigo & Sauron without powers and calls Sinister “Master” Point 3 Sinister lets the clone go to Xaiver without telepathy, while Eric & he are shackled to walls green top khaki pants like when she was kidnapped earlier in episode 1! Point 4 when X men arrive in no powers, in the Savage Lands are captured by Magneto’s Mutates now controlled by Sinister as well as the Nasty Boys. Meanwhile, 😏 at the lab Sinister has sent Magneto, Xavier, Morph & “Jean” in green to a dungeon. Point 5 when brought ought of the dungeon into the lab formerly belonging to Magneto in his genetic experiment phase, the XMen are in a cage, Magneto is watching them because he and Charles are back against the wall with Morph, hands up and “Jean” is placed back in general pop with the XMen in the cage. Point 6 Rogue & Gambit kiss after he confesses his love for what he says is the first time to anyone. Rogue is taken but Scott “Jean” hair down, green top and khakis, Storm, Gambit & Beast remain. Point 7 Wolverine & Kazaar’s side mention bring them to Magneto’s Savage Land compound which is Sinister’s but the two ✌️ split ✌️ up… Kazaar frees the female prisoners, bringing them & the town from a subdungeon, while Wolverine frees Xavier and Morph from the wall & is overpowered by Vertigo with Magneto powers. Point 8 all along, back and forth from outside the cage Eric Charles Sinister, Nasty Boys Wolverine & Mutates, we've seen into the cage the same green Jean in khakis with hair down like when she was kidnapped. Point 9, but when Xavier busts the machine and Morph shoots him, … if you watch those vital frames, Scott Gambit & Jean hair up, in uniform are in the cell for one shot having powers because Scott shoots the cage open. Point 10 everyone charges into battle, Beast, Cyclops, Gambit with Storm flying above him, but look who runs out last! Point 13 When Sinister threatened in Reunion Pt1, the implication were that he had a plan they wouldn't see coming… is the Jean clone, given to Professor who even when he had telepathy in the Savage Land labs was so ashamed he’d lured the team to a trap, that he didn't read Madelyn… false sense of security! The team wouldn't doubt the clones authenticity because Xavier & Eric watched her walk in while they were shackled to walls & she’s kinda… roaming! Why say it’s reunion because ‘97 she meets her father Nathaniel who she named her son Nathan after. She has a Reunion with the ✌️ otherJean ✌️ & Magneto finishing the words “a clone” as if he saw the Jean in the cage was different or had suspected the handoff Faaaar too easy when the XMen were outnumbered and depowered! If you'll recall as this is my last point, Xavier & Magneto were led into an ambush by Morph… when in the Savage Land Morph was going to do something dumb, Sinister had read his mind and had him clobbered using phrasing from Fire Made Flesh to Madelyn, but now, allows him to shoot him and rather than Brainchild piecing him together again, Madelyn steps in from where she was first shielding Charles, to blow Sinister up and away only for him to be Mr. Smiles on the beach as the XMen leave cause his plan worked: Xavier & the team accepted the decoy! Beyond Good & Evil, he wasn't handing over his perfect specimen to Apocalypse, he fan-dangled the clone & kept his prize! No disrespect, just check it out… some folks just want to argue conspiracies, they've theorized, or read a synopsis rather than to do this 2 episode homework, learn and share for the common good of Truth itself!

This doesn’t really have to do with the timeline itself, but in trying to connect this to the MCU, how do you reconcile how different time travel works in X-Men TAS versus the films? Because while yes Bishop and Cable come from branched universes, their realities are directly affected by past activities of time travel concurrently, similar to how the TVA’s flow of time works in Loki. Do you have any theories on that, or is this just considered a byproduct of different multiverses having different rules?

The X-Men time travel is honestly very hard to pin down, but it seems from the trailers that the X-Men movies are being viewed as creating branches, even if the characters weren't aware of it. I say that, because we see some monitors in the TVA showing what I think are the X-Men timelines and it shows alot of branches. So perhaps a "backup" branch is created each time someone time travels?

Dude omg I've been living in Texas my whole life since 1990, and each year it FEELS like summer has been slowly over powering the other poor seasons lol.

Yeah, I was initially assuming that the blackbird being destroyed at the end of season 5 was the first of the three that Jean is referring to...but season 5 ended in Nov, 1996 and Season 6 starts in Sep, 1997, so I think the three blackbirds have to be all destroyed during season 1 of X-Men '97.

Funny you point out hulk and Fantastic four TAS having a different president then X-men did, because recently, a youtuber known as "nerdist" made a video on the marvel animated universe, where he pointed inconsistancies between some of the 90's marvel cartoons, and said that only X-men TAS and Spider-man TAS were set in the same universe, he didn't point out the Robert Kelly, Bill Clinton inconsistancy, but would've been a good point to bring up.

Great question...I'll recap the timeline in my final X-Men 97 breakdown and I'll update the image that goes with the X-Men timeline on the google drive. If there is enough to make a video on it, I'll do that as well, but it seems we are going to end the season in Nov, 1997 unless something strange occurs. Let me know your thoughts after the episode drops on Wednesday if you feel a short timeline update video would help.

Great points! Yeah, that was my first assumption as well. That said, it seems that with Episode 7 happening during Dia De Los Muertos, that makes it November and so Episode 1 fits well in September, meaning Madelyne likely didn't get pregnant until early 1997.

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is November 1st in Mexico, not October 31st... that's Halloween.

I thought that was the case as well, but it seems that The Day of the Dead is a holiday traditionally celebrated on November 1 and 2, though other days, such as October 31 or November 6, may be included depending on the locality. I'm having trouble finding the exact day in 1997, but I thought it was Oct 31st for that year.

To my knowledge, the only thing out of order in season 4 on D+ is that episode 16 comes before episode 15. But if you find that the Juggernaut episode is in the wrong order, let me know. Thanks for all your great comments!

And plus there is no Jean grey after Professor X called everyone abt his own brother’s life.

Are you going to include Spider-Man Unlimited when you get to the Spider-Man video? The creator of the show said it is indeed intended to be a sequel to the show. However, the original Spider-Man Show creator disagrees with Unlimited being a continuation. The thing is the original show creator doesn't really have say in that considering Marvel is in charge of that, not him. Another thing, Eddie was on the headline in the X-Men 97 trailer but in the OG show, he is supposedly dead. But Unlimited brought Eddie back so points towards Unlimited.

I haven't decided what to do with Unlimited yet. It seems unconnected, so I may do the animated series first and then try to tackle Unlimited and see how it fits. I do agree that they seem to address the Eddie Brock situation in Unlimited, but then again, I don't think Unlimited explained how he got back from that dimension that he was trapped in during the animated series, did it? I need to watch that series again.

@@AbitofEverything4U Unlimited had Peter say, "You guys look different," and it showed flashbacks to the 94 origin. So it didn't outright explain how they got back, but heavily implies it. Some other interesting notes, back in a magazine in 1999, the shows creator said it's a Midquel. Implying it's somewhere in between the events on 94. However, this has weird implications. Also, in the comics, Unlimited appeared a few times in crossovers. Dan, the comics writer, says the Unlimited in the comic indeed is a sequel to the 94 and is a varient. Varient in this case likely referring to the comic one not being the same as the fox show but basically the exact same. It's definitely meant to be a continuation, but it's not universal agreed how.

It's a nice timeline...I really like how it turned out. It's alot easier to follow, for example, than the live action X-Men timeline.

32:19 - Madelyne could have very well been pregnant in the season 5 finale… it takes anywhere from 4- 5 months to show.. so by the time x 97 rolls around it would check out

Good point! You are right...she could be hiding that baby bump! That said, I think it does end up working better with Ep 1 in September, due to Ep 7 being in October.

Thats super confusing to put the finale of season 4 as 93 (based on the date of the london attack). Does that mean there are 3 years of adventures we never saw between seasons 4 and 5? We know season 5 finale and season 6('97 season 1) are a year apart but the rest of season five could have been at any time since they are all mostly stand alone eps. Would explain why psylocke and angel are not around when they were primed to join (and angel was confirmed to join bts as season 4 was supposed to be the last season). Would also give morph time to meet all these people he morphs into. That also means maddie could have switched in an unknown adventure 🤯.

I agree...I think it would be craziness for us to make the end of season 4 be 1993. So I'm thinking that Gyrich's speech writer didn't do very good research for his speech. Must have used wikipedia to find that 1993 date. lol!

I thought of a solution to the President plot hole with the other shows. Maybe Clinton was Kelly’s vice president, and Clinton served as president during the other shows through the 25th amendment because Kelly could have been temporarily out of office due to a medical condition or a coma.

Agreed...since it was written in 1991, it actually makes sense that season 1 started in that timeframe.

Scotsman here. Yeah, that doesn't exist...that's very much just American writers not researching something lol (secretary of state/defence) Our political system changed in 1997 to a devolved parliament... but before then, we were exclusively governed by the UK Westminster Government in London, England. Hope that helps

If you ever come visit again, visit the Highlands of Scotland for a true Scottish experience :) I stay in the Highlands. Edinburgh is cool, but it's a bit sanitised for tourists.

Great question. So my guess is that Marvel is placing it there because they are putting any show/movie that comes out during the Multiverse Saga and that is produced by Marvel Studios in there. Moon Girl isn't in there, for instance, as it is not produced by Marvel Studios (even though I do wonder if that show may crossover with the MCU at some point in the future). So I think X-Men 97 is there simply due to the studio that is producing it. That said, similar to Moon Girl, I would be surprised if X-Men 97 doesn't crossover in some way with the main MCU down the line. We'll have to wait and see!

I think Marvel Animation is going to show up in the multiverse saga as well. What If will likely take the marvel animation logo as well as Eyes of Wakanda. Moon Girl is being created by the team that creates content for the Disney Channel and then it moves to Disney+, which is why I think it's being handled differently. But just a guess on my part.

Maybe it's because every other Christmas for the 4 years that Jubilee was an X-Man (girl/woman) there was a crisis (undocumented )of some sort 🤷🏼.

Great question...so in this video I was focused on the episodes that gave us timeline hints and for season 3, the timeline was definitely defined by the timing of the Phoenix and Dark Phoenix saga episodes. But I love Gambit. He's a fantastic character!

In My head cannon, I like to think that the Jean that washed ashore and was studied at Muir Island and turned into the Dark Phoenix was Sinister’s clone, Madelyn. Thus, Jean Grey would’ve been the benevolent Phoenix, while Madelyn would’ve been the malevolent Dark Phoenix. I’M CALLING IT!

Maybe when the Phoenix force flew the M’Kraan crystal into the sun it left Jean’s body behind. Sinister obtained the body and cloned her. By the time the Phoenix force returned to Earth, intending to reunite with Jean’s body, it awakened Madelyn instead (infusing her with a portion of Jean’s soul and all her memories). Once awakened, Sinister had her “wash ashore” where she was rescued. The Phoenix became dark because it was exposed to emotions…emotions that would be NEW to a clone. The experience drove it crazy which is how we got Dark Phoenix. (Drops mic 😂)
