Many years ago while on vacation, my wife and I had the opportunity to drive the "Going-to-the-Sun" road in Glacier NP---a real "white-knuckler." As we asceded my wife would comment, "Oh, David! Look at that view!". My reply: " Cripes, woman!! I'm not taking my eyes off this road for one second!!"

I had a good chuckle at you're comment, I may had mentioned this on this channel before about that very "highway" you had taken as long long ago I was on it for the first time as a kid riding in the top bed of a pickup camper ( legal back in those days ) and my uncle hit the side of the mountain with the corner/side of the camper ( a rented camper at that ) as the rock juts out in a particular spot around a curve heading down on the west side not that far from Logan Pass. Us kids thought it was a great time, my dad ahead in our camper and my uncle and aunt not so much as to the accident. My dad was not phased by a pass like that but my uncle was busy filling his undershorts LOL. I've been over it a few times myself as an adult and love the scenery along that road. Also have been on the very trail Cat was on with my full size pickup and numerous other ones in that area of Colorado years back now and It truly is a gorgeous area without a doubt in what I have seen of Colorado.
Thanks for reminding us all how beautiful our world is!
How small does one feel, surrounded by all that. You have probably inhaled more clean air than anyone else on this planet. Thank you for letting us tag a long.
THEY SAY "HEAVEN ON EARTH IS WHERE MAN HASN'T BEEN", AND YOU MAY HAVE BEEN STANDING ON ONE OF THOSE SPOTS WHEN YOU SAID THAT. MANKIND HASN'T BEEN TAKING CARE OF THE HOME HE'S BEEN GIVEN TOO MUCH. IT'S GREAT YOU GOT TO TAKE SOME NICE PICTURES ON THE JEEP RIDE, AND HAD SOME NICE CAMP NEIGHBORS. GREAT INFORMATIVE VIDEO AND TOUR OF SILVERTON, THANKS.
The Jeep trip was spectacular! Thanks for the ride along!
Catherine, that was my favorite video so far. I really felt like I was watching a movie !!! You are the best at capturing the true beauty of nature. FIVE STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🙋🏼♀️
I lived in Durango for eight years and still feel like I didn't explore the Silverton/Ouray area near enough. It's truly one of the most beautiful areas in the country. Thanks for capturing it so well :)

Im From Berlin but want to travel through west America and Ouray,Durango and Tellurde are all on my list!
Aspen used to be much like Silverton before the rich and famous discovered it, The San Juan's are so very beautiful...thank you Catherine.
music as allways is superb.
One of the most beautiful areas in the country!! I absolutely LOVE the San Juans!
Silverton is my favorite place on Earth. The Avon is the place to stay if you are down to earth. Be sure to give the hotel dog, Ivy, a good pet!
Catherine, you out did yourself. Beautiful video of the Silverton area even a train. The viewer can tell you like Colorado.
We always knew Shady Lady as Effie's. My oldest son was born when we lived in Silverton. I drove or rode the bus to work from Silverton to Red Mountain Pass for a year then moved to Ouray (btw, thanks for pronouncing Ouray correctly). In 2 years, I got stuck behind snow slides 9 times. Always coming home from work. My Grandpa worked on the narrow gauge railroad when it went from Antonito, CO to Aztec, NM then worked at the Sunnyside, Mayflower and Treasury Tunnel mines. In fact one of the houses at the old Idarado is his old house that was moved from Eureka. Corkscrew is a veritable super highway compared to other roads in the area!
Catherine, How sweet to watch you filming and giving a brief history on the historic street in Silverton, Colorado which is named after my great grandfather, Thomas Blair. Not that he had anything to do with the numerous brothels that followed! Thomas was with the Baker party who explored the area back in the early 1870's, built his cabin in Arrastra Gulch and was instrumental in plotting out the town of Silverton. Enjoy the fall splendor of the beautiful San Juan mountains while you are visiting the area... Happy Trails!

Arrastra Gulch, Yikes! Had a strange experience in that canyon a few years back, be careful😮
OMG! I stood upon that very spot (6:28) last week. Walked back a little further to view Mill Creek cascading down the mountain.
Silverton/Ouray/Telluride/Durango is hands down my favorite part of all of Colorado:)
I was born and raised in Denver and growing up in Colorado was so fantastic, great videos from Colorado BTW. I do get home sick for it from time to time and will always have memories of my home state, Now 65 and been living in the East Valley of Phoenix for the past 30 years and have fallen in love what this great state has to offer.😀
Your videography and your choice of music, show a lot of growth. Before I knew it, while watching your 4x4 video, listening to that music, I felt like I was lifted away into the mountains, could almost smell the pine. Your video was truly a wonderful visceral experience, thank you so very much, loved it.
Cat you sure do make a good video that sometimes one thinks he or she is present with you touring. Thanks to you and many others, viewers are now able to see a beautiful place what it looks like and appreciate it.
Good Sunday morning Catherine! I spent some time in Silverton in 1980. I will never forget, as it was my first trip to Colorado. As always, your gift for selecting the best shots and music are proof of your talent and gifts. Your trip to "The Corkscrew" was amazing! Didn't expect to see moose! Such a beautiful trip in the Gulch. Again, you are so blessed with wonderful subscribers (Tammy and Dan) that every adventure you take is a blessing to the rest of us at home traveling virtually with you. Thank you so very much, and as always, love you and be safe. 🙏💖

Glad you enjoyed playing in my backyard. There is a lot more to see and to hike. 😀

Now enjoying photography and videography of the backyard. Lots to explore and create. Enjoy your time here! Your videos are excellent and give me ideas. Keep.up the great work! Fall foliage should be awesome and getting my plans ready. Enjoy you time here, you might end up staying!
I am unable to speak the words of all the beauty you have captured in this video. "Breathtaking"; does not justify how well nature in its awe is captured here. Thank you for taking me there..................A++ (and the chosen background music = perfect)
Catherine + Cappucino + Breakfast After Church = Perhaps the closest I can get to Heaven while being in Virninia! Catherine, without any doubt this is your finest video yet, on too mnay levels. Yes, I enjoyed the scenes of the Durango & Silverton.. (TNX for making us railfans and model railroders extra happy!), But, I alsoi enjoyed the 4X4 ride, and most esp[ecially seeing the moose cow and her calf! I giot to see the latter once when I was in Alaska. Seriously awesome!!! On the off-roading, there was one switchnack that reminded me of the trail to the suppit of Mustang Mountain in Nevada. May Almighty God continue to Bless, Guard, Guide, and Protect you while bringing you to even greater adventures!
Such an amazing spot to be in. Thanks once again for transporting all of us into a peaceful and serene environment.
You're right - Silverton is MUCH better than Aspen! The San Juan's hold some of the best scenery in Colorado. Glad you're spending time here in Colorado!
You let people know how glorious beautiful hour country is 🤘🇺🇸
I love the Silverton area, been there many times. I bring my Jeep so I can run the trails. There is a great museum at the end of the street in Silverton, great history and presented very well.
Thanks for the memories! In my 20s I worked at Mesa Verde national Park and spent my days off taking my orange AMC Gremlin pulling a tent trailer around the Durango/Silverton/Ouray/Telluride/Cortez loop. 35 years later, Retired and living in a van, I camped at Red Mountain Pass and rode my mountain bike on the road you were Four wheeling.
I was there on my first RV adventure 21 years ago with my late wife who has been in heaven now over 5 years. You brought back sweet memories, we enjoyed 40+ years together. 💞 The scenery was spectacular, you are definitely tempting me to return there. 🤠😎🇺🇸🏕
Wow Silverton is absolutely stunning Catherine, courtesy of the 1st class footage you have captured to enrich us all 😃… thanks again.
I really enjoyed the beautiful San Juan Mtns of Silverton, CO, seeing that moose and her calf in Corkscrew Gulch, and touring the little town of Silverton with its Lady of the Evening perched above the saloon, various shops, etc. within old buildings. Thanks for another fun adventure! Jenny
We have really enjoyed watching your Colorado episodes! Great job showcasing the beauty of God's creation! It never ceases to amaze! If God's creation is this amazing, imagine how great the Creator is! Praise the Lord! 😊🙏

Good Morning Catherine Thank you or a Beautiful Drive and tour of the Colorado San Juan Mountains
Thank god it wasn’t too busy the day I drove it, as I was able to cheat a bit over the yellow line just to keep my buddy from freaking out thinking we were gonna go over the edge and into the abyss! There was a bicycle race going on however, and paying attention was a priority, so I was only able to glance here and there, so virtually missed most of the fantastic views! Coming into Ouray from the north about 8-10 miles, it looked like we were entering into one of the the kingdoms of The Lord of the Rings! It was just spectacular!
I loved this video! Such a beautiful area. The green mountain range at the 14:40 mark is just breathtaking! Thank you Cat for sharing this historical area.
I loved seeing this area again through your eyes. It’s been many years since I’ve been there. Breathtaking scenery and you capture it so well. Thank you!!
In the summer of 1990 my family and myself vacationed in Durango and took the narrow gauge railroad to Silverton. Wonderful countryside and enjoyable towns. Being a flatlander from Chicago, transplanted to Houston, driving on mountain roads was a new level of stress as I had nightmares of going over the side. I'm sure I drove the locals nuts with my slowpoke ways. Driving it in the winter would be insane, but people do it and survive. A few years ago I read that forest fires had damaged Durango and residents lost their homes. I sincerely hope they were able to rebuild. Great video as always Cat!
Absolutely beautiful!!! I adore moose, loved the mama & baby crossing the stream!!! Great video!!!
Silverton is a wonderful place to browse.
Spontaneous paid off! What an adventure should always include. And that campsite. Wow!
Definitely one of the best channels about outdoor hiking. Thank you Cathy.
What an amazing moment you captured with the Mama moose and her baby!
Great shots of Silverton! Glad you included such wonderful shots of the railway as well. I remember riding that 40-ish years Agowhen I was a kid. Those mountains are such a magical place. Thanks for sharing with us all.
The drive from Ouray to Silverton is beyond awesome. My dog thought so too - we pulled off at a scenic spot and he started chasing ground squirrels - was almost the last time i ever saw him.
From the South Mineral Campground, we hiked the Ice Lake trail about 47 years ago; it was stunning...enjoy the area, such incredible scenery. Silverton and Leadville are my two favorite Colorado towns....
Hi Catherine😊😊😊, I really enjoyed Silverton and the San Juan Mountains footage. I'm remembering the first time I was in that area driving and exploring Ouray and then climbing up through the San Juan Mountains to Silverton and Durango. Southwest Colorado is absolutely SPECTACULAR! I really enjoyed this video, Catherine😊😊😊👍👍👍.

Oh Catherine... As always you have touched our souls with the beauty of your travels. Educational and entertaining. Nothing else comes close. Thank you so much.
Beautiful video! I grew up in Silverton. Everyone should visit Copper Colored Kid's gravesite at the cemetery. It's a creepy ghost story from when we were kids. Legend has it as the railroad was being built he was caught lollygagging on the job. He then refused to sing "Camptown Races". But seriously, build-up to and after his demise are pretty twisted.
Oh I Love it there. Campsite looks amazing. I lived near there for 2 years. Some of the best years of my life.. my start to Colorado life. 🥰 thanks for sharing

You are one very blessed woman. Thank you so much for sharing the beauty of our country,
When I was in the area working 29 years ago, I didn't get to go to Silverton. I was working in the Durango- Bayfield area. I have always wanted to return there to explore more.
Our CO daughter took us to Silverton (rode the S&D train in an open car) and to Animas Forks last June. I have to say the road to Animas Forks was a rough one. My first time 4 wheelin’ off-roading at 74 years old. The history of these old towns are truly inspiring.
Exploring an area like Silverton is always so interesting, lets hope they continue to thrive for future generations.
One of my favorites places…Silverton, Ouray, and Telluride. I’m glad you got to enjoy this place.
My heart is always at peace watching Cat's videos. Thanks for taking me along......

The San Juans - Heaven on earth indeed! Thank you for bringing us with you on your amazing experience. :)
Back in 1989 (?) me and a buddy rode my Ford Bronco from Silverton to Telluride over an above-treeline road. On the way down into Telluride, I made the mistake of not gearing down enough and ended up vapor-locking my brake lines. Luckily I was able to safely coast into a grove of aspens.
We were in this area last October when the first snow fall hit the area!! The Million Dollar Ride was one of the most beautiful places we've ever encountered!!
this has got to be the most stunning video on youtube
Love that whole area-one of my favorite places on earth and best trip as a child…stopping in Silverton…on to Mesa Verde…took the trip again many years later with my son and my parents…last trip with my mom-so glad we did it!
Every time I hear the San Juans I always think of our San Juans which are so much different because they are surrounded by water and are Island where Orcas like to play. The rain doesn't look like it brought any white stuff to them hills. Our rain storm on Friday & Sat was much needed and with a little clearing Sat , Mt Rainier showed her pretty face and all I can see is White . Just what the old girl needed as her Rocky face was starting to look ugly. All these years the old man's vocabulary has been used up , what more can I say that no one has said before. Just love your work Cat.

Enjoyed this immensely! SW Colorado and the San Juan's are a jewel to see and explore! Tanks Catherine for taking us along. One of my first oil paintings was of those mountains. 🏞🛶🌲✨🛶🎨
I just got though watching your U-tube about Silverton, Or. This brought back memories for my uncle and I camped in one of their camping areas back in the 70s. He was dear hunting and I was fishing. There was a small stream like the one you camped at and I couldn't believe the size of trout I caught in the little creek. Also, the side walks in town were still wooden. We had to pay to take a cold shower and the only beer they had was called near beer. After three days camping with snow on the ground we decided a trip into town was needed. It was night and the slushy snow got up under our motor while traveling. As we started down the Hwy grade towards town, we observed, down at the bottom of the road a County Mounty was out of his patrol car talking to someone in the car he stopped. All, of a sudden, my head lights went out and the car back fired just as we started passing the County Mounty.. The pore officer jumped over the car he stopped. We made it to town, parked in the rear of a bar and headed inside. It wasn't 5 minutes and two C.M.s came into the bar asking who was driving the car in the rear? No one knew, for we claimed we were playing pool for the last hour. Frank Jaeger
No one, save John Muir back in the day, captures the essence of being out there quite like Catherine. You can feel her heart's connection with wild places right through these sounds and images. In this otherwise insane world we find ourselves in now, this is the soul's salvation.

They don’t have guard rails because it would prevent the snowplows from pushing the snow off the road in the winter.

I failed to count how many deep breaths I took watching your video. Mostly , it was due to the raw and stunning beauty, but I'll admit - I can imagine those inclines and descents along the 4X4 trail as well. I'm glad you survived and were able witness an area that is a bit less traveled. Thank you for taking us all along. Safe travels.

Nicely produced and narrated. One of my all time favorite places. Thank you.
I'm a fulltime RVer and a year ago I travelled through CO. Western CO impressed me very much and no town more than Silverton City. Lets just say that I started looking at RE there but the prices have already popped. It is a one horse town with a lot of kick to it. There are a couple bar & grills and coffeeshops in that main street that compare with the best the US has to offer. The whole area is just off the charts and the only thing that keeps it that way are the roads in. From Ouray in (million dollar highway) its a white knuckle drive but the other way is no day in the park either. Its back to basics and I love it. I got my coffee from that exact coffeeshop every morning and then sat out ON the street where they have chairs and tables.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful video of the Silverton area! Several years ago we rode on that train from Durango to Silverton! We'll never forget how awesome that area of Colorado is! Cat, your adventure videos are top notch! 👍👍👍👍👍
Those views were incredible....thanks. Say hello to "this girl hikes" for me.
We made the drive from Durango to Ouray a couple of years ago, spending the night in Ouray. We left Durango in time to see off the train and arrived in Silverton in time to see it arrive with much fanfare. That drive is so rugged and beautiful, with grand distant views and mesmerizing close-up streams and falls. Well worth anyone's time. Glad to see your take on it. ...that road up the mountain! Yikes!
OMG CG! That road was so scary!! Great video, you do so well framing your shots, you impress me everytime! I'm normally not late watching your vids, but I got a chance to go to my favorite lake for a couple days, so I took it!!
I love Silverton. We were just there a week ago. Our daughter has a house by Purgatory ski resort, so Silverton is close. My brother in-law and I took some 4x4 roads by the streams and lakes between the resort and the top of 550 for some fishing. It is pretty.
The corkscrew Trail was frightening to navigate!!!
