Exploring Penang's Culinary Gems: Yao Sisters Char Koay Kak | Michelin Bib Gourmand Experience

Tired of the usual char koay teow? Or are you familiar with Singapore style carrot cake or chye thao koay? Join me on a gastronomic adventure as I visit the iconic Yao Sisters Char Koay Kak stall nestled in the vibrant Macalister Lane of Penang. Established in the 1960s, this humble stall has garnered fame for its mouthwatering Teochew char koay kak, earning the prestigious Michelin Bib Gourmand award for its culinary excellence.
In this video, I take you through the bustling morning scene at the Yao Sisters stall, where the aroma of sizzling rice cakes and fragrant sauces fills the air, enticing locals and tourists alike. Witness the skilled hands of the Yao sisters as they expertly fry up batches of char koay kak, using traditional techniques passed down through generations.
As I indulge in a plate of freshly cooked char koay kak, I'm captivated by the harmonious blend of flavors and textures - the crispiness of the rice cakes, the richness of the preserved radish, and the subtle sweetness of the soy sauce. Each bite is a symphony of taste, a testament to the sisters' dedication to preserving authentic Teochew flavors.
Throughout the video, I share insights into the history of char koay kak and its cultural significance in Penang's culinary landscape. From its humble origins as a street food staple to its elevated status as a Michelin Bib Gourmand awardee, char koay kak embodies the essence of Penang's diverse food culture.
Whether you're a seasoned food enthusiast or a curious traveler eager to explore Penang's culinary gems, Yao Sisters Char Koay Kak stall promises a memorable dining experience that will leave your taste buds craving for more. Join me on this culinary journey and discover the magic of Teochew char koay kak at Yao Sisters.

Same here, eateries I've recorded that I don't really fancy will not get into the video editor la hahaha. There's quite a few i would say. Most of the viseos that didn't make the cut were eateries in klang valley. I've only tried char kuey kak once since it's not easy to find halal ones in penang. The local famous ones that I know is near my place in jelutong. Opened at Jelutong morning market, it was said they sell CKK for over 6 decades. Also in the evening in jelutong there's a pushcart stall selling CKK across the street from hussain mee goreng arang where a lot of people go buy.

@@pishedbloke yes that's the one, open in the evening. I've always wanted to try that one since it says no pork but I still have my reservation about it. The jelutong morning market CKK is by uncle loo. Seems both the CKK stalls have been in business since the 1950s
