I would also recommend his 2002 film Talk To Her (Hable Con Ella). It won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.

Alert, Alert, triple Alert! Haha. On cloud 9, just found out that Tie Me Up TIe Me Down is newly back in print from Criterion and available now, just in time for July sale. Can't believe I never got a heads up on this, but very happy😊 I hope you consider this great Almodovar film and maybe a follow up review. Thanks James.

Hello James, love your director series. My favorite film of his is Tie Me Up Tie Me Down; it's in the Criterion Collection. But alas! It's out of print, the blu-ray anyway. Tie Me Up has one of most surprising and unexpected endings, maybe last 1/3, just genius script and writing and directing. I also love Women on Verge of Nervous Breakdown, and have it in my future Criterion buy que. The cover artwork you display for the disc indeed one of most artful. All About Mother, have not seen, but interest piqued, thank you. Very well done overview of this director. Oh, you must see Tie Me Up....!!!!! A shame out of print on blu, but maybe it's still streaming on Criterion Channel.

Pete, happy to hear you enjoy this series! I'm looking forward to doing the summer series coming up. I need to check out Tie Me Up Tie Me Down and the rest of Almodovar's filmography. Great filmmaker.

I was waiting for you to do Almodovar, and somehow missed it until now. Anyhoo, I haven't seen Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, but I have the other two. I've also seen a handful more, and enjoyed each one very much. Penelope Cruz is amazing every time they get together. Broken Embraces offers more evidence of this. What I like most about this director is that most, if not all, of his films deal with people struggling with identity, both their own and that of others. His disturbing masterpiece, in my opinion, is The Skin I Live In, featuring a really creepy turn from Antonio Banderas. Great video!!!

La Mala Educación (Bad Education) starting the great Gael García Bernal, is one of his movies I don’t see get talked about a lot. One of my personal favorites.

Volver is the only Almodovar movie I’ve seen in theaters. I remember really enjoying it but it’s been a while. I think it’s part of a 4K boxed set but I can’t remember which one. Maybe Sony Pictures Classics has a set? You might want to check out The Skin I Live In. It’s the closest thing he’s done to a horror movie.

Thanks for the recommendation on The Skin I Live In, Hunter. Yes, Volver is in that set you referenced. A bit pricey for me so I’m hoping for a standalone 4K release at some point.

Yeah, some of these massive boxed sets are too much for me as well. I’m glad Taxi Driver is getting a stand-alone 4K release. There’s no way a title that big could only be available in a set though. Might be a little tougher for Volver but you never know.
