Exploring Newfoundland Gorges by Helicopter | COLD ISLAND Chapter Five
In chapter five, we fall asleep in the helicopter waiting for weather to pass and get kicked out of Deer Lake Airport. We decide to take some time to explore Newfoundland gorges, go iceberg hunting, and get Chris' bucket list FPV drone shot before heading to our final destination.
We took a MASSIVE cross country helicopter trip in August where we flew our helicopter, the Millennial Falcon, back to our Canadian home province Newfoundland and Labrador. We will be releasing episodes of Cold Island, A Helicopter Travel Series every Sunday and Wednesday until Nov 13th! This is our largest video project (and helicopter trip) to date. Hope you enjoy it!

6:27 making the McKinnon / Haapoja "Drone Wars" look like child's play... 🤯 Loving this series, you two! Such great story telling.

I love all you guys, even as a canon user I watch the whole Sony crew! Trying to reach your level with my videos so one day I can join the awesomeness!
This whole series should have been sponsored by new founland tourism. Seriously, this would be the best tourism ad I've seen(probably) ever.
The drone shot threw the copter and down into the landscape was bonkers satisfying

Thanks for showing the rest of us the value in looking around and simply enjoying the places we already live in.
This Helicopter is just UnReal...🎉🎉🎉🎉
From my years in the air transportation (flight attendant, security manager, etrc.) I remember being told Gander is the largest capacity airport in terms of number of aircrafts able to land and remain on location. It was meant for those first decades of transatlantic commercial services, when a highly-safe landing strip (the closest possible to Europe) was mandatory. I've never landed there, but in Goose bay when we had a fuel issue on a flight between Paris and Montréal and had to cancel the ETOPS procedure. Such a long flight (England - Ireland - Iceland - Groenland - Canada... Canada again), with the weird thing of landing and taxying across all those military planes and helicopters... with 1,5 meters of snow around ! Unforgettable. Your videos are so rich in stories, details, humans and their lifes. So full of emotions. And this is what we need, after all. PS : we tend to forget it... wind is draining energy out of us, it is a very exhausting force of nature, plus it also creates static electricity (and lots in some cases)... all this makes for an accumulation of deep fatigue, the one "switching" you off at the end the day.
Oh wow. The whole flying -> waterfall -> flying sequence -- sound track, narration, story, feels - just wow. hmm. This episode made me cry. Even though this isn't my home, you REALLY nailed the nostalgia of longing for home or "simpler times" and wishing, in retrospect, that we would have realized all we had.

Cody Wanner 😭😭 thanks friend!! It was definitely a nostalgic moment reflecting on living in the province. Definitely missing home
Chris, your decision making on this trip has been spot on! And what a great co-pilot you have, rolling with the punches with ease. Well done!!!!
Newfoundland hands Becki & Chris keys to the province for creating such a beautiful highlight of said province. But really, what a stunning place. You guys did such an amazing job filming & creating this series. Mind blown.
Goosebumps on the drone sequence through the helicopter and down the waterfall. So. Good.
Newfoundland, what beautiful scenery, I bet Becki is going nuts with the camera!
If you look really closely at 9:00... the iceberg is steaming(or whatever that would be called). So incredible. Beautiful job friends!
I've been away for two weeks, so I've put off watching Cold Island until I could be back home, and watch it full res, full screen on my 21:9 ultrawide monitor, as nature intended. Just watched episodes 1-5 back to back, and this is one of the best things I've watched on KZread. Really, really stunning work Becki & Chris!

ANOTHER killer episode. The opening helicopter start up sequence set a bar for the episode that couldn't be topped, until it was topped a couple times! Flying through the gouges. The drone shot over the water fall with the PERFECTLY placed bird caw! Then the iceberg! Was that steam rolling of the peak of the 'berg?!?! What a fun and inspiring series. Thank you for sharing!!!

Tom Dixon thank you!!! Yes a bit of mist coming off the top of the berg! 😍
Becki and Chris, enjoyed all your lastest videos. Glad to see you respect "Mother Nature" when out flying. I've been in Air Traffic Control field for over 50 years and weather must always be respected. Looking forward to watching your return trip to NY.
OMG, the drone shot through the helicopter, the enter movie is STUNNING ! Do you two even realize how good this movie is, how personal, the content and visual effects are?
This was the most!!! I keep rewatching this series. It's so visually incredible with great storytelling and videography and super cool characters.... omgeee more!!
Chris' flying skills (drone AND R44) just continue to amaze me! Another wonderful episode. The iceberg was so cool!! Actually.... all of it was SO COOL! Thank you again for sharing your adventures!
The story telling in this series is on another level! Great work Becki and Chris!
Having watched almost every video you have ever posted, this series is proof that practice makes perfect. How you have improved your story telling, editing, lighting, music score choices. This is so beautiful and evocative. In an earlier video when you first mentioned working on this series, you showed us a preview of the drone shot through the heli and I have been waiting to see the actual footage in context. Breathtaking and so glad you got pictures of the iceberg as well. Truly a dream of mine to see that one day. Can’t wait to see the next episode!

You guys are killing it, loving this series, helicopters, drones, videography, and you two guys, is a winning combo for sure
Glad you guys got to see all that hidden beauty.
The proverbial cliffhanger indeed. 🙄 That place is mind blowing, but you'd have to have a helicopter for sure to take it all in. 🚁 Another great episode! Rock on!
Loved that transition @4:40, loved the drone shot over the waterfall, just loved the whole darn thang! 👍
The drone through the helicopter was amazing.
6:46 eagle cry! YESYESYESYESYESYES 👊👊
The fpv shot at the waterfall is so good, especially the quick turn around at the end! Saw it when it was first posted a few weeks back, and it's just as amazing seeing it again..!
This episode is so nice! The epic slow-mo and areal footage in the national park, mixed with the music, buttery goodness. Well done guys!
Thank you both for sharing this. What an amazing place. Not to take away from the other incredible clips but wow, that’s some SICK FPV drone footage!!
I'm really enjoying this new episode. Such a journey of what It's like being in Newfoundland.

Amazing!!!! Definitely taking the kids next summer!!! Thank you for making me discover my own country! WOW

The footage is just so pretty on these videos. I have only been in a helicopter one time over the grand canyon and it was just magical.
Love someone who can make a strong cup of tea

You guys absolutely rock! This is such a beautiful video, took me to my happy place, especially that iceberg. Whoa!!!
I remember the first time I saw an iceberg, it was from ~30,000 feet and I thought it was a sailboat in a bay somewhere in Newfoundland...then I realized how far above it I was and what it was that I was looking at. They're monstrously huge. It's a sight I'll never forget. I'm still hoping to see one up close someday :-) Also, that drone shot through the helicopter and over the waterfall was insane! So cool!
Really, really awesome! And so true taking for granted and not exploring the place we call home.
I think everyone feels that. Where they live is not so exciting but when you leave and come back as a tourist, you miss it and see it in a new way.
I really loved that emerald green part of the iceberg under the water as well. Great footage.
What a cliffhanger!! 😊😍
Wow! If Newfoundland has a tourist board... they should sponsor your next homecoming trip! So impressive, entertaining and beautiful. Absolutely stunning episode, Happy Sunday :)
Such an amazing series guys! I find myself diving into google maps and wikipedia just researching all those beautiful places you showcase!
That fpv shot at 6:30 👌💯
What an amazing series you created here. Nice landscapes with informative documentary. Enjoy watching every part of it so far. Thanks a lot.
This whole video is a big WOW moment
Beautiful scenery.... Thank you....
What better way to start off my Monday? Hella inspired, dope episode. Can't wait for the next one!
Mawesome you guys. Love this series. Have an amazing Sunday, Andreas 🇸🇪
Absolutely loving this series.
Drinking my morning (first) coffee watching a vlog with Heli & iceberg ... Once again 👌🏻😍😍😍
I was in Texas in August and actually met a nice lady that was on one of the planes that had to land in NFL. The whole story is so fascinating and touching. 'It was Canada at its best" she said
Wow it’s so pretty and stunning views! Brilliant video guys and cannot bet cup of tea 🇬🇧
Still so much fun. Really makes me want to get into the helicopter again, miss it so much. The country is so beautiful and your comments on seeing it as a tourist is spot on. I live next to Glacier Park, and do not get to see it as often as I would like.
08:36 when 'timeless clouds' kicked in..... gave me chills.... I always loved the song, but with this visual, it got much better.
Fantastic series. This is so great and you guys have done our province justice. Stunning
I never really comment on videos, I started following you two after seeing you with Peter McKinnon. Just have to say, I’m loving the helicopter travel series episodes! Keep up the great work! You guys are awesome!

Love it, watching it lit up my BD. Was going out but got a tummy bug, lol, and watching that beautiful scenery and Beki looking oh not so comfy at times (I feel for her) made my day a bit brighter. Flown along the coast of NF many times coming from AMS.
6:28 The best sequence ever!!!!!!!
