If you're interested in viewing this property, or finding out more, then send an e-mail to dreamcottages.mossybottom@gmail.com. I'll forward all enquiries to the owner. I make no commission for a sale and the views I've expressed are my own, formed in the 3 hours I visited and explored the property and land. If you are considering purchasing any property then always do your own research, hire professionals to conduct a survey and provide quotes, if needed. These videos are not intended to be definitive, rather an overview from my own perspective, having lived on a smallholding in the west of Ireland for 5 years.

That cottage is not far from me, I'm 10 mins from Corry strand but it's not that remote as in the nearest village is Dowra on the Cavan/leitrim border which has a fully stocked Spar supermarket & a pub/restaurant, it's sufficient for all your needs but far enough away to enjoy the peace! The Spar also stocks hard ware items and paint so you'd rarely need to go to Carrick on Shannon, once you have a car nothing is hard to find here in the wild West! It's a beautiful part of Ireland lovely Leitrim, anyone who buys this cottage won't regret it😀

I'm enjoying this mini series. The fact that this cottage is in good condition, has outbuildings and internet connection should make it a very easy option for a lot of people starting out. Yes, it needs some work to realise its full potential but I think that will allow the new owner to put their mark on it.

It is an interesting building as that quality of stone work is rare in Ireland for a small cottage of the period - rubble work was far more common. It does not look to me like a schoolhouse, my guess is that it would have been the cottage for a trusted retainer for the local big landowner. That area was also surprisingly industrialised in the early 19th Century (coal at Arigna, and lots of good pottery/brick clay), so it may have been associated with one of the workers, possibly someone from Britain as the architecture isn’t particularly vernacular. It’s close to Spencer harbour, which was a mini local industrial area - the lake and rivers/canals allowed access all over Ireland and direct to Dublin and Belfast. This was not a remote area 200 years ago! It was very connected once the canals had been finished by the late 18th Century.

Because of the low ceiling in that cottage, the rooms heat up very quickly. Energy efficiency. In Poland standard height of the ceilings was 3.5m - 4m. It become very popular lowering that ceilings to average 2,4 m. that can generate 40/60% savings on hitting cost. After August 15 temperature at night can drop in Poland to around 50F.

I live near San Francisco, California. Traffic, high prices, high stress, high crime, severe drought, low quality food and pollution. I cried myself to sleep last night. My kids and I talk about how nice it would be to move to Ireland. This cottage is so sweet, the pros would make the cons look like nothing. I would love to hear the birds and rain instead of the freeway and ambulances.

What fun to watch these video tours! I know I will never move to Ireland but one can dream. As an American I find your use of the term “remote” to describe these locations charming. Here remote means it takes the sheriff an hour or more to respond to a call for help. Anyway, thanks for the great videos! You seem to enjoy making them as much as we like watching.

Hello, I just stumbled upon your channel and really enjoy your content. The cottage that you brought to us is really cute, even with the minor fix-ups you spoke about. What is more exciting is that it comes with a bit of land and it’s quiet remote location. This kind of remind me of the home I live in now. I used to own a 2350 sq ft home: put it up for sale, and within a week it sold. The home I currently have is only 940 sq ft, with 2 acres and very remote…I live in the woods way up in northern WI…I just love it! Peace and quiet…cozy too! Thank you for your channel and sharing your life with everyone. Cheers!

Plus, having spent most of 2020 and 2021 trapped in doors, I'm not sure how I'd cope without the occasional human interaction! I've already started going a bit loopy. If I bought that cottage as an elderly woman, I would convert thd big outbuilding into guest accommodation, possibly and sir b and ɓ . There's at least room for a little onsuite , if not a separate bedroom and little sitting room . A tiny kitchenette could be at one end of thd sitting area with microwave and airfryer . I'd provide breakfast , possibly in the main cottage and of course a little hamper on arrival with food for a supper. One could even have one bedroom in the cottage as a bed and breakfast, using the tiny bedroom as a bathroom. I'd make a garden all around the cottage with , if possible, French windows to the back garden. Use the small brick store for a freezer etc. The wooden outbuildings for hens , and possibly a goat. The garden would be a reasonable size ( id need sadly to cut downa few trees to make it , but theyd go in the wood store for firewood ) , not too big and give me years of pleasure to create it . Then I'd plant soft fruit, fruit trees and grow vegetables for myself. One could try even peaches and apricots on the front wall of the house . Of course the animals provide fertiliser for the veg and fruit . Can you tell i love too build castles in the air ! Actually twenty years ago I did havd enough money to do that .

Hmmm. I lived in a Gate Lodge stone cottage on an old countryhouse estatedown in Tipp for a year. Much nicer than these old cottages mainly due to larger windows, better foundations and insulation. And higher ceilings. I would open up the ceiling and raise it up w a mezzanine floor instead of two floors with low ceilings. They are oppressive to live with full time in Winter..People were smaller back then, not so now..:) Lovely site .
