I grew up in the mountains the south side of Mount Saint Helens in Washington State. not far down the road from where I lived are some lava tubes called the ape caves. When I was a little kid in the 80's my dad would take me up there and we would go climbing around in them all the time. I remember my dad just driving up an old logging road through the woods telling me to keep an eye out the passenger window for a hole in the ground and once we find it we would climb down a rickety old wood ladder down into the two and a half mile long lava tube. Only the locals that lived in the area really knew about it and where it was. In the 1990s it got popular enough that they actually developed it into a gravel road and put a permanent metal ladder and made a little gravel parking. In the early 2000s it got even popular and now there's a big paved raod and a big paved parking lot and a little ranger station right at the hole of the lava tube. Even though it's been developed into a tourist attraction still recommend this hike to anybody that ever has a chance to go to the ape caves on Mount Saint Helens. Another cool adventure is the Trail of Two forests not far down the road from the lava tubes www.mountsthelens.com/ape-caves.html

That is so cool, there are so many places I missed getting to see while living out there. I'm thankful you both are doing this so I can at least get to watch video of these places. When I was little my father would stop at some of the volcanic areas so I could get out and see them up close but he would never let me go far worrying I would get hurt. Later when I could go anywhere I wanted I would go out into the Mojave desert and drive through areas but never had the opportunity to find information about places like this.

Hi Bethany and Drew. I'm a new sub and want to say how much I love your 'show'. You really have produced these videos like mini episodes that I could easily see being shown on network tv...but love that you brought your talents here to YT to share with all. I love watching every adventure you have. You're both so professional, but funny and relaxed and real at the same time. You're informative and you really do your best to show us every nook and cranny in every place you visit. Please don't stop making these vids. Maybe gonna have to start to travel to each state and do a series for each. Anyway, thank you for your hard work and diligent research in finding these amazing places. Enjoy all your adventures and be safe! :)

@@OddityOdysseys You both as well...and if you're ever doing a series in Connecticut (or New York) look up the Leatherman. It's a really cool story about a guy in the 1880's who roamed a circle year round through New York and CT (on foot, and dressed head to toe in a patchwork leather suit). There are several caves in both states where you can see where he stayed. Just sharing...it's one of my favorite stories about Connecticut, well, admittedly because one of those caves exists in the town I live in. :) Anyway, have fun on all your future adventures! Again, really really great job with Oddity Oddyssey's. I've learned so much about the California no one really talks about. Take care!
