Daniel, so glad you commented. I’ve been listening to this podcast. I have a Fujitsu heat pump and HATE the cloud based integration. Can you share a link to that ESPHome module you used for your Mitsubishi one?

My Fibaro in-wall dimmers have been going 9 years now and have never missed a beat. I have 16 of them and I have never had one fail yet. Over the years they have been swapped from a Fibaro controller, SmartThings and now Home Assistant. They are/were expensive but seem to last. I love that you can have them automatically switch off after a period of time, great for hallways

Daniel should look into Octopus energy who operate in Germany. With his Tesla he should be able to run intelligent octopus go to automatically charge his car when the grid is cleanest. Then if same as UK his export rate will be better than overnight import and use something like predbat in home assistant to control his battery and inverter if they are compatible. This will optimise charge/discharge for house load and forecasted solar production. Works out greener and cheaper.

Thanks for the feedback! I only had solar for 6 months, so my plan is to record usage over one year and then look into optimizing with a flexible tariff - like Tibber or Octopus…

@@danielkrzyzak9399 I was very impressed with your HA achievements. I had a very different path only getting HA to optimise my solar which was installed a year ago. But now tip toeing along the journey you’ve been on with the rest of the house.

Have a look at the Energy Management for Home Assistant (EMHASS) add on. I have it optimising my solar, dynamic pricing, home battery, EV x2, pool heater, HVAC and hot water.

Thanks a lot Daniel, that's really inspiring! Would you share some more on your energy monitoring within the breaker panel? There seem to be quite some variants of the PZEMs which you were mentioning. Any recommendation here? I'd especially be interested in how you located them inside your breaker panel. Mine is already relatively full (even though it's also 2x2 meter ;-)). Did you use some specially built (3D printed) case? I've seen some pictures where people just directly mount the PCB on the DIN Rail, but I don't really like that idea.

As my breaker panel did not have enough space for it I mounted a simple four-row DIN rail inclusion next to it. I mounted the PZEM next to each other as well as the ESP32 on a perfboard with JST connectors for the modules. Then I ran one cable with 5 wires per RCD (German FI) for four circuits plus neutral to pick up the lead per circuit as well as one telephone cable with 8 wires for the 4 CT clamps to the main breaker panel. Was a bit of work but uses almost no space in the breaker and is easy to maintain. Can provide a picture...

Speaking of an allowance I was talking to someone that gives his kids a "water allowance". They spend it using NFC or RFID. I can't remember which but shower time is limited. I believe he said the heat turns off as a warning if they go over. 😂

Damn I like it from a technical point of view. But as someone who has long showers it might be a bit hard for me to enforce that myself. Also seems flying a bit close to the sun to get child protection called on you. I can see the headlines now. Phil

@@hasspodcast I called it "dystopian" when he described it but he has to bring the water in by truck. They live in a dessert if I recall correctly. It does sound like some kind of dark future using an electronic card to get your daily ration of water. At least they aren't rationing drinking water...... YET!
